Saturday September 19?
Potentially the same Day as a Fremantle Home Preliminary Final,even if that was at Night.
Sunday September 20
Directly in Competition with the WAFL Grand Final Day.
Venue?

If Freo finish top of the ladder and host a home preliminary final it’s likely to be Friday night.

The PFL set their fixtures not the WAFC and have no idea if any WA teams will make finals etc so its unfortunate if the AFL sets the pre-lim at 1.20pm like they did in 2018 for WCE. The way the cookie crumbles.

How long has it been staged on the 3rd Saturday in September,as opposed to the 2nd?
Good question…I reckon the 90s, 2000s and most of 2010s saw the A Grade GF played on the 3rd Saturday, the WAFL GF on the Sunday with the AFL GF the following Saturday.
A few factors determine it though, given the majority of PFL clubs share their grounds with summer sports, cricket baseball etc the PFL clubs don’t get access to their ovals and clubrooms until 1st Saturday in April for fixtures and need to be finished by end of September.
Where Easter falls in the PFL season theres always a competition bye, June long weekend competition bye and then A Grade bye, 18 game H&A season, 4 weeks of finals means GF needs to be 2nd last Saturday of September
Also add in we now have a womens comp. It used to always go AFL, 1 week to WAFL then 1 week to A grade and then 1 week to everyone else.
With the addition of women that had to change.
That’s not true, the introduction of women’s football had no impact on A Grade GF date as their season was shorter than then men’s previously being a maximum of 16 games.
This season the women’s comp is playing the full 18 games for the first time. But again no influence on A Grade GF date.
Rd 1 for PFL was 11th April given Easter fell in April, add in all the other non-negotiable byes and 18 H&A games then the A Grade GF was only ever going to be where it is
only A grade women play 18, the rest all play 16. In order to achieve that status quo the A grade GF got pushed back to WAFL GF day and they added ladies.
look up 2018, 2 years before ladies arrived. The sequence I posted was how it always was.
we actually had seasons without bye’s just to cater for A grade being the week before WAFL. Every second season it was. They were long seasons with no break.

Nearly every PFL A Grade GF has been played on the 3rd Saturday of September for the last 25 years, the women’s competition kicking off in 2018 had no influence on the A Grade GF date, it’s still the 3rd Saturday in September.
After the WAFL pretty much gave up on Saturday GFs, its interesting that the PFL have even gone head to head with the WAFL GF when the WAFL flipped back to Saturdays a few times in 2001 and 2006.
