Just saw a ball from Connolly skid through for 4 byes didn’t get more than 4 inches off the wicket.
Mighty comeback to skittle them for 329.
329 still a decent score although given their start South Africa would be disappointed especially given the first 6 wickets were batter error rather than brilliant bowling. Starc forensically dismantled the lower order as he has done many times
A good fightback from Australia after a calamitous first session but the batting line up minus Smith is making me nervous 330 looks a challenge against Rabada and co
The life of the sporting fan…can only live in the moment I guess…nostradamus to eggs benedict in the space of 3 hours…Starc at his iconic best…pie shop vendor / wrecking ball operator. Saying that it was a shocking decision to bowl after winning the toss…But after getting rolled for 99, and 3 new bats in the top 6 , plus statistically your premier bat out injured, I guess one can’t blame one’s apprehension in batting first.
Atleast Aust go into day 2 with their tails semi up, after rolling SA from 0/150 to 4/218, to 10/329…Aust could of easily been 4/50 at lunch on Day 1 if they had batted first.. totally devoid of confidence…though that could still be the case on Day 2 I guess…one can only hope Aust can thrive on a batting pitch, under the Cape Town sun, and go above and beyond SA 1st innings score.
Could SA 0/150 moment, be akin to Aust having SA 6/110 in the 2nd test, only for the wheels to fall off…game on I guess.
I was thinking Cummins had a Bob Willis moment(Adelaide ‘82),in Winning the Toss and sending the Home Team in.
Fortunately, things changed rapidly after we could have potentially been looking down a 600 run 1st Innings by South Africa.
They let us off the hook essentially, even allowing for Starc’s efforts.
Let’s see how we go with the Bat.
Luckily there was some strange batting by some SA batsmen in particular
Lyon just threw Pies absolute mince pies and the SA bats’ eyes lit up a bit too much
2 games in a row where Cummins looked fragile
Cummins hasnt taken a wicket since knicking off Stubbs in Durban his only wicket in their 2nd innings. He has bowled nearly 60 fruitless overs since!
The second new ball and overhead conditions at Cape Town allowed Starc to swing the ball prodigiously and that is when he is at his absolute lethal best against the tail.
Still SA have 329 on the board after being asked to bat, lets see what our fragile batting line up come up with against Rabada, Jansen, Coetzee, Mulder & Harmer tonight…
Can’t think of such a lean time with the ball then right now for Cummins…hopefully a blip, considering he is the youngest of the Aust quicks…you don’t get as many poles as Cummins has, at an average around 22/23, by being a pie vendor.
Not sure if he has a niggle but he seems to be straining to get the ball going at any pace. His bouncers were completely ineffective, unlike Starcs
I read somewhere on fox today he has bowled shorter and faster than he has in the past 3 years
Rabada & Jansen have to be stood up to
No mucking around
Just stand your ground
Get through the new ball, then build several partnerships. Head and Renshaw will set the tone. Funny enough Mulder worries me more than Rabada and Jansen, he is always at the stumps
So long Marnus, test career done. Making Harmer look like Shane Warne. Day started off so well too
What a weak dismissal.
See ya…
Catching practice. Absolutely pathetic
Now Green is playing him like hes bowling hand grenades
You’d think so,but No.
India are touring next Summer after this, aren’t they?
Glaring technical deficiencies exposed in both dismissals.
How many times has Travis Head “chopped on” in the past 12 months?
Only a second-innings century (and nothing less) will save Marnus’s ailing Test career.
Really was enjoying Travis Head bat
just that tiny lapse of concentration and that bat not in the right arc again
I think we knew Labuschagne wouldn’t be much chop
the Boers have been living two maybe even three rent free lives in his head
Green thinks he owns 4 or 5
here is the examination
he looks bloody shaky really really timid so far
185 all out let’s see
Marnus broke a 133 year old record today.
Well done old son.
It was Charles Bannerman’s younger brother Alexander Chalmers Bannerman, who held the previous record of 48 Innings without a Test Century.
