Green, Inglis and Connolly haven’t had a bat in how many weeks?..either fresh as daisy’s or rusty as old gates.
I thought players batted better when injured? Smith sadly is cooked, give him a summer send off v NZ, and then retire him…he’s got nothing to left to prove…let Sydney be his swan song
WTF??? Won the toss and put South Africa in on a perfect sunny day. Cummins has just demonstrated his complete lack of confidence in this makeshift batting line up. Advantage South Africa before the game starts
First half hour gone and the Saffer openers look totally at ease. Don’t think one ball has beaten the bat, highlighting what a dumb decision it was to bowl
I know its only early but this has all the hallmarks of Nasser Hussains dreadful decision to bowl first at the Gabba in the 1st Test of the Ashes 25 years or so ago.
Australia pummeled the Poms all over the Gabba and the Ashes was pretty much lost there and then.
This is looking similar…
The Cummins/McDonald/Bailey regime looking more and more like tactical dunces with every Test that pasts!!!
And the captain looking impotent again while the best bowler sits on the bench. What a shambles. Going to be lots of self imposed leather chasing today and well into tomorrow. I am going on about it but what a massive own goal by Cummins
Geez on another matter India are 0 for 130 after 6 overs against the Kiwis
The winds of change are coming and the chickens are coming home to roost for the lack of succession planning. Sessions such as this may become more common in the next few years
South Africa may well have 400 on the board by stumps tonight
I think it demonstrates how demoralised they have become BH. Everything that they have done today from the toss onwards has reeked of a total loss of confidence which is strange given their experience level but they obviously havent recovered from their humiliating loss in PE .Now Starc is being smashed for multiple 4s by a guy playing in his 2nd test. They will be crushed by an innings I reckon which may not necessarily be the worst thing as change can then no longer be resisted
As I write this Lyon is now being smashed everywhere. This feels like the end of an era
The other thing is that having picked Lyon you would think he would have been more effective bowling in the 4th innings so Cummins decision made no logical sense
Lyon constantly chucks the shites when he is dropped but he has offered up little when he has played in 2026.
He is looking like cannon fodder for Ackerman & Markram.
I agree with Mike on the call for Kuhnemann to be picked ahead of him.
Its like the cart leading the horse.
Cummins has total control of everything,Australian Cricket.Hes the puppet master from NSW
His mates will play for as long as they want.
And like Uzzie and Warner. They decide when they will pull the pin.
In 3 years time. Most of our current players will fall off the cliff.
Looks like the West Coast Eagles in 2022
Or late 1983 with Chapple,Marsh +DK.
And it looks like most replacements will be over 30 years of age.
OMFG what a train wreck coming over the horizon.
Much better session although Ackerman and Markram threw their innings away when they had the bowling at their mercy. Bavuma played for spin that wasnt there and great to see Connelly get a wicket when he was belatedly given a bowl in the 50th over.
