I’m very gutted but very proud of our players today. You all played with courage and commitment. I know you are all gutted too the emotion was raw on your faces as you left the field for the last time in 2026. Let it drive you in the pre season, get bigger, faster and stronger for 2027.

You guys are taking a more optimistic view of the loss than I am. I could write reams about the 4 easy set shots that Schlensog, Paton and Bodle missed. The two dinky passes from Philip gifting EP goals. 2 goals EP scored crumbing in the goal square when we failed to properly kill the ball. EP controlling the air with 107 marks to 79… Ultimately, we were almost at full strength, playing a depleted EP side at home and we choked.
The last quarter was deplorable and we deserved to lose. EP had 10 scoring shots and, albeit the winning goal had an element of luck, we were always going to be overwhelmed. No composure at all. Parfitt played like a nervous debutant - instead of taking his 30 and putting the ball to the top of the square in the last, he was paralysed by indecision to the extent that he played on over the boundary and coughed it up. Cachard, who to be fair was quite good, dumped it out on the full. Then the last couple of minutes… where was the run? Where were the players leading up, allowing the backs to switch and possess the ball for a bit? All we had was guys at half forward waving their hands in the air and experienced players like Taylor and Schlensog dumping it straight to Walsh to the point where EP repeat entries were too much. Instead of playing tempo footy in the last, EP wiped out a handy lead in 5 minutes flat. We were outplayed and out-coached by a team with fewer stars but more will to run and tackle - 65 tackles to 49. And, yes, I think we would have likely won with Dean out there for the whole game, but overall, EP played exactly the sort of game that Perth don’t cope with, a hard running, high pressure game that leads to poor skills, lack of composure and absence of any discernible game plan on our part.

Fair summation,though the Coach can possibly chuck the current game plan out the window and employ an old fashioned Game Plan,where the boys can throw Caution to the wind and really back themselves,but……
I don’t know if the Current Coach sticks with the boys and does everything he can to get them 3 steps higher,or gets a better offer to head back to the AFL,but whatever happens before March/April next year,I’m sure the Result will stick in the crawl of the boys,to inspire them to do better in ‘27.
I’m sure one fella is going to be quite busy in reinvigorating the list to get us better.

Indhi Kirk and Brodie McLean,so things are looking up already.
You’re right,we did make mistakes,but they can be worked on and rectified,with thorough training with a bit of clever psychology.
Plenty of work for the Brains Tryst and playing group to do,but I’m looking forward to next year already.

Hard one to read Ted but you are spot on, a wasted chance to get into a preliminary. Damning for me was the inside 50 count, at 3qtr time it was 40 to 28 in our favour. At the end it was 49 to 46 East Perths way.
We absolutely dominated the 3rd qtr and couldn’t put them away and then coughed up a hard earned lead in the blink of an eye in the last.
Charlie Dean going down definitely didn’t help but that’s the way it goes.
Really proud of the guys for fighting back a couple of times and it was fantastic to see them take the game on at times but the Royals played smart in the last, I lost count of how many times East Perth short passed to a fast leading player with precision.
Moving forward lots of positives but this mustn’t be sugar coated and the players should have a real burning desire to improve enough to play 4 quarters consistently.

Fair points Teddy,but it did take a miracle goal from us with 10 seconds to go to knock you out,and although I was obviously overjoyed with the result,I did have genuine empathy for your lads after the siren who were visibly shattered,and every Demon fan should be proud of their efforts,but yes I do understand your frustration as Perth fans have to endure a ridiculous amount of pain which seems never ending,but at least your club is finally playing in successive finals and are developing the platform for success.

Biggest laugh I got out of the past 12 Hours was a NON ATTENDEE of a CERTAIN CLUB in a Right Mess(ignore this Diehard Supporters),pouring it on about our Sins from 9th in '24,our list which surely must be over the Cap,our subsequent CHEATING as a Result,yada,yada,yada.
After all the to and from yadas,I told him he will need to get in behind his Club,so it doesn’t disappear down the gurgler.That seemed to wear him down a bit.If it wasn’t an outside voice,who doesn’t attend games these days,you’d swear it was a Favourite Supporter of Perth(
)on the airwaves,who to be fair,does attend WAFL Games.

There is no reason why Perth shouldn’t be a regular,top 5 side.
Clubs in a lot better place than it was a decade ago.Both from a performance and finance,point.
Making finals is also a way to recruit from the east coast.
The last quarter inside 50 stat is damning. It speaks of one team trying desperately to win and the other trying to avoid losing. We need to have a conversation about the coach. You might say that’s nuts given he’s taken us to successive finals. However, the reason for that has been recruiting. My concern is that being overrun has become a pattern - we lost to SD and S despite being 41/25 points up, and we had C and SD reduce a 40 point deficit to single figures before we steadied a bit. 13 points is not the same sort of lead, but that it was wiped out so quickly is a concern. Perhaps other posters might be a bit more savvy about coaching, but I have not noticed anything from the coaches box to stop these momentum shifts. Simple things: slow it down, possess the footy, tag dominant players, put a spare back.
RL, I guess there needs to be a 2027 thread for Perth, but I don’t agree that we have a platform for success. It is a well worn topic, but we are too heavily reliant on recruits, which is a product of our poor zones. Ideally, you should have a really good core of local players, with recruits as the icing on the cake. At Perth, we have from interstate best 23: Schlensog, Kluske, Clarke, Kirk, Dean, Parfitt, Constable, and Harding. We have out of zone best 23 in Wills, Paton, Johnston, and Edwards. Plus GM, Gardiner, Brayshaw, Hallett, and Feliner also played league. That’s 17 players. Especially with interstate players, there is always a go home factor, and it is expensive to attract them - they are in demand, so we need to see off competitors, pay a high match fee, transfer fees, relocation costs. A points reduction for a few of our players will help, but if the WAFL reduces our salary and points concessions, we will find it very difficult to continue to recruit at the level we have the past seasons. I suspect EP are very much in the same boat, as are SD.

We’ll probably lose those concessions on the one hand,but unless the WAFC shifts it’s position(not impossible I concede),every Club will get a raise on their TPP Cap.
I guess every Club will have to get smarter on List Management anyway,but we have a very good operator in our ranks right now.And recruiter to boot.
Yeah,there probably are a few things to sort out up top.We finished 4tn.We didn’t finish 8th,9th or 10th,so whilst we can raise concerns,about how we go about going the next Step(preferably 3),let’s not Panic here.
Jones isnt a dog at all and that wasnt a dog act but you have your opinion as do I..best of luck for next season and with the young guys you have plus the experienced players, as long as you guys dont lose them which happens in our comp, Im sure you guys will definitely play and win finals next year..its well over due for a strongly supported club like the dees

Sorry wont and cant agree but its done now and as Dean was concussed, i think it will be tough for him to get off. Either way, it was a great game yesterday with amazing atmosphere with credit to both clubs and supporter bases

Whilst on the wrong end of it,that game was something else and cynics about the WAFL can snipe all they like,which is bizarre if they’re happy to fork out stacks of moullah for Bad AFL Games they see.
Must have been 9 or 10 SH*T Games,one AFL Club made possible in town this year.
