Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for the Eagles?

Watched a bit of the game on TV last night. The Eagles were touched up by the 2nd worst team in the competition on their own home ground.
It amazes me that over 40000 still turn up to watch these games, I have the ultimate respect for these people for their loyalty in attending week after week. The Eagles were competitive for 3 quarters but completely went missing in the 3rd when Richmond kicked 8 unanswered goals. Richmond are also a team rebuilding but from the evidence of last night they seem to be a long way in front of West Coast. Harley Reid is carrying their midfield with little support and he is still just a kid
McQualter needs to go through the list with a fine tooth comb and be pretty brutal on players that are obviously not up to it. Not sure how long Tim Kelly is signed up for but he is not giving the Eagles anything and is now a list clogger. Oscar Allen will probably be traded. They should also be looking at Jamie Cripps, Elliot Yeo and Liam Ryan and what value they add. There are a number of promising young players in the team apart from Reid and the club should be looking at getting as many picks in this years draft as they can so McQualter can do a proper rebuild and put his stamp on the team. There is some hope but its obviously going to take another 2 or 3 years in the bottom 4 before they can again be in contention for finals

There is if you are talking about the tunnel from the Crown carpark to the casino where there will be a bunch of new bars and restaurants built over the next 8 months.

Will be a bunch of better food and beverage options by kick off 2026 for suffering WC supporters.

reliably informed that it is the worst basic skills squad ever seen in the AFL
even Fitzroy could trouble sides

No, and who cares.

Quite frankly astounds me the crowds still turn up, I guess when you have already bought a pass you feel locked in.

I think they are a long way from light at the end of a very very long dark tunnel.
They may have a few at the moment who look promising. Reid, without doubt. But will he stay is the question.
Shanahan has the looks of a footballer. Time and patience needed.
McCarthy their mid season draft pick has settled in very nicely. As a mature age, he is looking like a leader.
A few younger ones that have been there for a while, could develop. But some look a like another 2/ 3 years, at least.
Ryan has done nothing for a few seasons now. Send him back to the WAFL team. No value.
Flynn the ruck wasted space. Williams a better option.
Cripps, time to move on. Yeo, like Fyfe, has reached his use by date.
McQualter will probably not see the finish of this rebuild. It will be a long long rebuild.

Ginbey looks like a decent footballer too AM

Yes, I forgot him. Very composed.

Great post Mike. I’d be very surprised if Mini and all involved aren’t already looking at what you have said. As for the supporters, we’re all there in the good times, so should be there supporting in the bad times.

Looks like the Eagles will struggle for another few seasons.Until the next couple of clubs, start their rebuilds.Aka Carlton, Port Adelaide, Dees,.new Tasmania team .
They should beat thoes teams in 2027.
The Harley Reid circus is just madness
Essendon have offered 15 million over 10 years.Harleys managment, laughing at that offer.
Let the young man go back east. And hope for 2,first rounders. And maby a handy player on top.
Jack Graeme type player.

I hope the Eagles don’t have the audacity to ask for a priority pick at seasons end.
A premiership 7 years ago. Some clubs would kill for that premiership. Some don’t have one.
A self caused problem, let them sort it out as others have had to.
I think the Eagles will struggle to beat any of those teams you mention.
They got smashed by Richmond on the weekend. A club that tossed aside many experienced older players for kids.
There are still plenty that are clogging up the club and they will, mostly, still be there next season.
Still plenty to play out in the Harley saga.I feel that if they buckle to his demands or asks, they will be owing to him for the length of the contract. He will be the boss. I am not sure the club can afford that to happen.
If they are wanting to keep him purely to have a money stream from merchandise, then they are barking up the wrong tree.
I agree, let him go home and pass the problem onto another club.

anyone who is retarded enough to pay a second-year over-rated nobody
an over-hyped nobody who hasn’t achieved a single thing
20 million bucks
deserves everything they get
but this is the VFL make-believe competition then again

Its a really tough one with Harley. He is a potential Brownlow medallist but he is not going to haul the Eagles back to where they want to be on his own.

IMO they would be better off trading him for a bunch of draft picks and use these to recruit a group of players who will form the foundation of the rebuild. They need to do it this year because future drafts will be compromised assuming the Tassie team is still going ahead.

Trading Reid would be very unpopular with some Eagle supporters but I think it is the best option for them ( and probably for Reid too)

Anchor apparantly the Eagles have told the Wafc. That their 2025 season is,looking like a,1.5 million loss.
No Wafc dividend in 2025
No merchandise for the bottom of the ladder side.
Hopefully Freo can keep winning. And have a big finals run..And pay the comission an extra dividend.

The Eagles have more money than a bull can, well you know what I mean.
I am sure the famous/ infamous #9 guernsey has brought in plenty of $$$.And that would be a massive reason for the Eagles to want to keep him.
But I am sure the WAFC will make sure they get their money.
But being the Eagles, who knows. The goose that laid the golden eggs has now become waste at the bottom of the chook pen.
