Where to know for the Melbourne football club?
What is the main problem for this once proud and successful club?
There appears to be no spirit coming from the players. They look like a rudderless ship.Is it the coach who can’t get the message through to them or is it simply the players can’t play?
There appears to be no leadership coming from the administration of the club.People like McLardy and Schwab don;t seem to be the people to lead them out of the mire they are in.I think McLardy rode on the Jim Stynes rescue of the MFC a few years back, but has done nothing since.
Schwabs record speaks for itself I think.
Maybe it is time for the AFL to send in some one to sort out the problem.Open the whole club up for examination.
This is a club that has had top draft pick coming out of their ears, though they maybe not the number ones since the two out of Vic clubs have been involved. They have lost many players over the last couple of years. Why!!!Is there no culture or mate ship in the club!!
Though I have no sympathy for clubs from Melbourne who are in financial trouble I feel that Melbourne will have to be bailed out yet again, both financially and club wise.
The AFL and the Fatman will never allow the MFC to merge or move, some thing must be done to sort out their problems. The television contract will not allow the MFC to fade away.
There seems to be a bad feel and smell coming from the Melbourne FC.
Neeld needs to be sacked immediately, the players are not playing for him & it sticks out like dogs balls. Someone like Garry Lyon should just say righto let me have these blokes for a few weeks & tell theses pathetic players to start to play for the jumper, fans & themselves.
Lyon will not step in and take over.He basically appointed Neeld to the job.And besides that he doesn’t want to coach i don’t think.I think he is more a hinderance to the MFC than a help.
With out doubt the payers have to be given a rocket but not sure Neeld is the man to do it.
I think they need a player from within the ranks to stand up and make a stance for the club, both on and off the field. They do not have one player there with leadership qualities.Any one from the club with real leadership traits have left.
Deep seated problems at the club and I think that only the AFL can sort it out.
I’ve heard Melbourne are coming to be the next team in the WAFL, they might be a top 6 chance
As an addition to the opening post;
I wonder how many players from the club will put their hand up to move on elsewhere. It seems a similar position that Fitzroy were in just before the AFL folded or merged them with the Brisbane Bears to become the Brisbane Lions
I don’t think the AFL will allow them to merge of fold but they must be close to having the rug pulled out from under them.
The AFL has to take part responsibility for the lack of class draft selections available. This is due to the huge concessions given to GCS and GWS.It made it hard for the other clubs to get picks that suited.
Also they have fined the Demons $500,000 for not tanking. They knew that there was was that the Dees could repay that fine.
A debt of over a million and with the team playing so badly no chance of recovering financially.
No money no players.A sad and sorry state of affairs at Demon land.
The AFL must be a little lost as the Bulldogs seem to be going okay at the moment. It’d be a little hard to tell them to merge with Melbourne.
I think it would be a sad day for Footy in general if Melbourne were to be wound up.
I would hope an agreement could be reached by where they could return back to the VFL, where they may have a chance to survive financially - even as a feeder club.
Mike the AFL would never ever allow the MFC to disappear from the AFL competition. They are too important to the AFL. Though have to admit not in the way they are currently.
They would never allow the MFC to drop back to the VFL.
The Fatman and the AFL will move heaven and earth to make sure that they survive. But in doing that they will cause some angst among the other clubs.
It was interesting to read the interview with the Fremantle CEO a few weeks ago where he was talking about the impact that Ross Lyon has had on the culture of the whole club ( not just the playing group). He has imposed processes and standards that were far above anything else experienced at the club and all staff at Freo are now expected to maintain these standards ( including board members). I think the results are now starting to show on field. I think Melbourne badly need a ‘Ross Lyon’ type coach as Neeld looks like he is out of his depth.
I have to agree Mikeh, for too long the MFC have been rudderless, similar to what Fremantle were.
They seem to have a bits and pieces sort of arrangement in trying to get someone to take responsibility for what is happening at the club.
Schwab and Connolly were gone from the club two years ago, well had both feet out the door, but somehow managed to survive.
But something has to be done very soon.Like last year.
Neeldy looks as though he is about to cry on many ocassions. A leader should not show such weak emotions. Neeld may very be a good tactical coach but he cant handle the head job!!
Assistant coach is his calling.
I agree with you Anchorman with the rudderless ship comment.
There were 3 or 4 good passages of play from the Demons against the Bombers. Good run, kicks & marks. They just don’t have any leaders. Judging from the game Viney should be captain next year, the rest are joke. Their recruiting of mature aged experience is pathetic. They need an Ablett, a Boyd or Watson… Every other team has a genuine star in the middle… They should have a lot of room in their salary cap next year, lets see if their recruiting can pick up.
Shwab,It looks like he is about to cry but it is an injury that makes his face look that way.He was hit during game so the story goes and he is working to fix the problem. It is certainly not a weak,it is something he can’t control.
They had the Eagles on toast today, but couldn’t maintain the effort - wonder why? Schwab’s gone, McL should go, Connelly too and tell Gary Lyon to concentrate on his golf. They need to clean out the whole cupboard. There’s got to be plenty of execs out there without any baggage that would bring a new, clean approach.
They obviously need fitness trainers over there.
The Demons cannot run 4 quarters. Who needs skill training if you can’t get the ball.
The end could be nigh if the Raj Neeshies beat them next weekend. It is not beyond the reals of possibilities either.m
