Hate to be critical of a fella I like, but is Cam unlucky?
Or are his Injuries a Bad Habit?

Freeze what is Maddinson’s recent Shield form been like the last couple of years out of interest?
And then further to that how on earth has he been picked for a Test tour on that form and lack of red ball cricket???
Won’t argue you with there BH…definitely left field…though recovering from cancer didn’t facilitate any red ball cricket for the guy…one can only wish the fella all the best. Still preferred Peake for his youth though…maybe Maddinsin opens with Renshaw allowing Head to drop back down the order…who knows mate
Some good performances in the Australia A game just finished in India, Sam Harpers hundred, a five for for Liam Scott. Wickets also for Richardson, Roccocholli and Murphy
11 bowlers used in 90 overs in the warm up game! Thought they might give Carey a bowl as well!!
2 Day Scratch Match.That’s bound to happen,…
Having said that,I don’t expect the Home Invitation boys to do the Tourists any favours, unless both agreed to bat 90 Overs each.
If they didn’t,they’ll bat as long as possible, leaving little time for our Batsmen to get some serious Batting in.
I think that was the agreement so the Aussies will get the full 90 overs available to them
Will be interesting to see who bats where. The only lock ins at the moment are Renshaw to open Smith at number 4 and Carey at number 6. The key question is Greens availability. If he’s not fit, does Head drop down to number 5 and either Harper or Maddinson open? Marnus or Connelly seem to be the contenders for number 3. Cooper provides a decent bowling option, Marnus bowls rubbish. The pitch in Durban is a turner so do they include Kueneman or Murphy at the expense of one of the pace bowlers? Webster should play and bat at 7 I reckon. Even if Green plays he won’t bowl so Webster provides both seam and spin options.
Many questions to be answered in coming days
If Green doesn’t Bowl,it follows he’s not fully fit,so he should NOT Play!
suggests there’s not a definite plan as yet
and that if there is actually something resembling one
then it probably will be a stacked batting line-up
with part-timers bowling a fair bit
Marnus batting at 3 today…suggests that’s where he will be in a weeks time I guess.
Timing is everything, 111 reasons to pick him now. See how he goes against Rabada, Jansen and co.
My god,he’s making a comeback, like the popularity of The Bee Gees tonight,…

So based on the warmup game, it looks like 10 of the 11 spots in the team are locked in with only Greens spot at number 5 a bit uncertain. If Green is not fit which seems likely, who takes his spot. Connelly would seem like the best choice but he batted at 7 in the warm up and only faced 23 balls before the match was called off.
Just thinking maybe they are looking at batting Webster at 5 as he got a decent hit.
The Saffers must be licking their lips really at the prospect of bowling at this line up
I reckon they need two spinners, and so to me the questions boils down to, do the not play Hazelwood and pick Kunerman using Webster as the third seamer, or do they rely on him and connelly bowling part timers.
I am uneasy at the thought of what Rabada , Nortje , Jansen , Coetzee , Ngidi , Maphaka & Williams and the never ending line of quicks might do to this very old line-up
It even borders someone getting seriously injured let alone flogged
Unfortunately, they are so intent on this group going out champions and winning in South Africa, winning in India and winning the ashes in the UK that they are not looking towards the future. They will argue we won all these series and test championship so bugger the future. I think we could be in a worse hole than when we lost Marsh, Lillee and Chappel all at the same time, what was that like 9 series without winning a test?
Reckon they Won a few Tests, whilst not Winning those Series,PH.
Beat the Windows once in 84/85,England once in 85,New Zealand the same,….
Chappell, Lillee and Marsh retired after the 83-84 series against Pakistan.
Between this and the 1989 Ashes series when Australian cricket got back on track we had 12 series (excluding the bi centenary test v England which was a draw.
1 v West Indies - lost 3-0
2 v West Indies lost 3-1
3 v England lost 3-1
4 v NZ lost 2-1
5 v India drawn 0-0
6. v NZ lost 1-0
7 v India drawn 0-0
8v England lost 2-1
9v NZ won 1-0
10v Sri Lanka won 1-0
11.v NZ lost 1-0
12.vPakistan lost 1-0
So in total 2 series wins, 8 losses and 2 drawn series
6 tests won, 16 lost. Probably as bleak a 5 year period in Australian cricket history until now ![]()
not very nice reading is it, and I reckon we are heading down the same path after this year’s ashes. we might be lucky that its Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the summer of 27/28 and not a decent side
I reckon we were lucky to win that 1987/88 series here vs NZ too Mike. Remember the backstop we had at the time Greg Dyer claiming a catch he dropped sending Andrew Jones who had a good summer with the bat on his way when a big score beckoned and then of course the last day collapse when Richard Hadlee & Danny Morrison had us on the ropes before the last wicket pair of Craig McDermott & Mike Whitney held out for a few overs at the end although we got lucky with a few lbw calls given not out despite hitting middle stump half way up!!! ![]()
