Probably Australias greatest race horse sadly passed away today, aged 27. From reports a colic attack.
I am not really a geegee fan , but how could we not know about Makybe Diva and her achievement of winning three Melbourne cups.
A champions champion.
Not really a follower of the horseys. Makybe Diva succumbed after the short illness which is apparently common at her age. Won three consecutive melbourne cups in the early 2 thousands. Probably never see another horse win 3?
I don’t want to trivialise one of Australia’s greatest stayers, but your horsey reference reminded me of an old skit from Sesame St News,…

3 Melbourne Cups let alone in a row is absolutely ridiculous. How many other group 1’s did she win? Without a doubt one of the greats.
She also beat a very mediocre Cox Plate field, which is the premier group 1 middle distance weight for age race, but we have to put her domestic performances here in context. No doubt she stands alone here as an all time great with the 3 M.C.wins,but the Quality of Australian staying ranks are well below Europe and Japan, which was illustrated by her 2 unplaced Japanese group 1 runs, and I would rank Black Caviar, who won at Royal Ascot,Winx and Kingston Town, who won a multitude of group 1s,as the best horses that I’ve seen.
If Delta Blues and Pop Rock came over a couple of year’s early, she may not have Won her Hat-trick,but we’ll never know.
They may have flopped against her in Australian(Melbourne)conditions.
Once again, you can only beat what’s in front of you and in a Australian setting, that’s what the Australian Public will remember.
None of what happened overseas in terms of no shows will really matter.
Yep,a horse like Via Sistina came over here with solid European form, but was virtually unbeatable over here.Ka ying rising is currently the best sprinter in the world, but overall we’ve always had the best sprinters.
