Disappointing to see ex EF youngsters Urquhart, Smith and Williams delistings, all under 24, with a lot of footy left in them. All 3 would be handy it’s for EF in 27…but could be handy depth at other AFL clubs.
Sounds like the 3 shortlisted for EF coaching gig are McGough, Anthony and Armstrong…hopefully a decision soon, and personally from the first 2. Also the EF colts job up for grabs as well…reigning premiers, with 12 players in the State 18’s squad for 2027, plenty to work with for anyone who snares that post.
2027 will be another year of development I’d say for the Sharks, couple of decent premiership colts players to graduate into the seniors in Ramsay, Abbott, Ormerod, Wood, Bacich, Martignago, Scott and Motton. Besides Yeo, can’t see many getting drafted from EF, but who knows with AFL recruiters these days.
Got a feeling other youngsters in Artemis, Richardson and Hannaford will get a look in first mate…but agree Foot is a very good youngster, along with another Gero boy Gould. Gould kept potential draft pick in Maynard from SF, goalless in the GF…did a great job on the talented SF young forward.
So EF have had 4 AFL products delisted… Williams(WCE), Smith(Rich), Carroll( SK) and Urquhart(NM)…obviously not all will come back, though can see the latter 3 struggling to get another AFL gig…Williams due to his height and versatility could be snapped up by an Essendon, Saint Kilda or North perhaps.
All 4 would be more then handy ins for 2027 down at GGP…especially with Eardley, Jansen and Joyce all retiring.
If we could land those 4 delisted that’d be a huge boost and really fast track are rebuild. All high talent and relatively young. It does seem that Williams would be unlikely
Williams is the only one with currency mate…his height and weight is worth gold at the elite level…can see Tassie VFL promising him a crack…the other 3 sadly are dime a dozen height wise at the next level…so will be struggling for a crack…hopefully EF can get them on board for 2027…all 3 would be best 23, and be more then capable at the WAFL level.
Cheers for that OTO. LA will hopefully be that fresh face needed to help develop those EF youngsters coming through the ranks, alongside what experience is left at the club.. ..no doubt a year or 2 of consolidation and development ahead, post the Bill era.
Mate, Wiley’s experience counted for Jack TBH. Monaghan rebooted the clubs culture after Wiley…Malaxos had a pretty good squad from memory, yet won nowt, lost 2 GF and a prelim where EF kicked 7.23…now it’s time for a younger person to help drive and develop all the good youngsters at EF…hopefully LA is that individua…pretty sure McGough was the other short listed candidate…just as young and inexperienced I guess coaching wise.
Hang on Freezin…don’t fudge the numbers mate…it was 7.26 in the prelim loss to Subi back in 2014. The mighty Lions went on to knock off the red-hot ferals in the GF. I hope the Subi footy club sent a carton of grog to the Sharks with thanks.
We managed to lure back one of the quartet of delisted Sharks in Kaleb Smith. Hopefully has a better run with injuries - could he replace Eardley??
Unfortunately we’ve missed out on the one who probably would’ve had the biggest influence in Jack Williams.
No word on Urquhart or Carroll. If we can add those 2 and a couple more then we would be in a good spot in terms of rebuilding. Add in McGuire and Avery and it doesn’t look too bad provided we stay healthy
