Leedy, stick to subject matter you know something about. The bloke who is behind the “cleanout” and new “disciplinary standards” is the CEO Marty Atkins. He is the one calling the shots about creating a new culture at the club. Before Marty came along after the first few games last year the club was rudderless and McMahon had already been at the club for 5 years as a coach. He has implemented NOTHING so don’t go defending him for copping criticism when those of us that have seen him coach know he hasn’t got it.
The thing is he is the choice of the inner sanctum who have invested many years in him and want to do everything to make sure he has success to save their own face. He has been given the best set of assistant coaches, been gifted a smorgasbord of recruits the last 2 years that would be the envy of every other coach in the WAFL.
Despite the promising start to the season there remains several big question marks over the coach in his tactics, his messages and his ability to 1) manage and get the best out of experienced players like Davis, Spaanderman, Murray, and 2) develop young players. He coached the colts for 3 years and the only colts players who have gone on to play league who are still at the club and league regulars are Hodge, Florio and Busher.
Perth’s assistant coaches this year are Adam Pickering, Michael Broadbridge and Trevor Williams. All 3 have far more impressive CV’s than the senior coach. At the end of the season the club has to make an important decision. Does it credit the coach with all the improvement or is there someone there with the brains to realise a lot of the improvement was not implemented by the senior coach but others who have come into the club in the past 12 months?
I can see Adam Pickering getting a senior gig very soon, he is a natural coach I reckon the players love to play for.
Well said Leedy. WP have always seemed to have a good Club culture and it has always transposed onto the field where you always seem to play for the jumper.
We have worked hard on that aspect and there are some wise people who have said as recently as todays telecast (which I didn’t see because I was at the ground) that they like what they see.
Hopefully 2013 is a turning point which will see some sustained success at Lathlain.
In the meantime keep doing us some favours but a win for the DEES next time we meet would be good thanks.
