Is going to be interesting to see if Jack Martin can stand up to his reputation in his first season as an AFL footballer. The experts say he is a better prospect than Jaeger O’Meara was in his first season.
O’Meara is 20yrs old,182 and 82 kgs and has played 22 games.
Martin is 18, 185 and 71(maybe that is last seasons weight) and no games.
If Martin can at least equal O’Mearas’ first season then I would say the Suns are well on their way to finishing close to the top eight.
If both players can perform to the full then maybe it allows Ablett to spend more time up forward.
Add another West Aussie to the mix in Harley Bennell and the Suns mid field looks good.
And add another in David Swallow and it looks even better.
I am thinking that the Suns could cause a few head aches and upsets for a few sides this 20124 season.
I’m with you AM. It will be interesting to see how the Gold Coast travel this year. I think there could be a few upsets brewing, if not this season, then the next.
Yes definately AM. I believe Jack is a little less physically developed than O’Meara was at the same stage. But on all reports he has been carving up in the Reserves maybe even a little better than O’Meara. That doesnt mean he will be better in his first season as O’Meara, but guess we will just have to wait and see. All I can say is I cant wait to see him in action!!
Also agree, I think Ablett will go forward more this season, the longer he plays, the more time forward he will play I believe. The suns do look good, their midfield looks to be the weapon, but just need that polish in Defence and Attack. Hopefully a young kid can stand up and provide that for the season and they will definately push the 8!!
Having watched both O’Meara & Martin closely during their respective WA State 16’s & 18’s years I would say O’Meara is the complete all round player whilst Martin has flashes of absolute brilliance but cant sustain it for the full 100 minutes of footy!
