Is East Fremantle's season over?

Unable to win regularly at home and with only five wins so far this season the next two games against East Perth and Claremont could define whether we play finals this year! Although from the way we are playing at the moment it would appear unlikely that we will be there come September!!!???

To be brutally honest I think the answer is yes. I think the Sharks need to review the team’s performance to date & consider carefully if there are players in the reserves that deserve an opportunity more than some currently in the league side. I would like to see Howson 195cm & Chalwell 193cm given 3 games each to see what they can offer, starting with our next game.

no. plenty of games left and a big foxtel cup semi. will not make the four though.

Only half way and I think their best footy is ahead of them. They are a better team than what they’re playing at the moment. I wish them well just not against the mighty Lions !!!

FMD…can’t believe all this chit chat about whether EF season is over or not…come on Custy et al I know you are throwing the conversation out there, but geez!..

still plenty of games to go and it’s not as though EF is 4 games out of the four…perhaps they will be after the EP & Cl games tho LOL!!..

totally agree with Pup tho…Malaxos has persisted with this small forward line, worked last year because EF had the likes of a few more AFL boys running around than this year…Griff in the ruck, Brown up back, Stevens in the middle etc. Not the case this year, been unlucky with Young getting injured so early and for so long…time for Stavros to think outside the box now…

Would like to see Young go back into defence v Smith next week, Dodd and Jupp will be back, Howlett, Bayliss and Stephen are busting a gut keeping EF in the game in defence…time to give Howson a go at FF…stick Chalwell at CHF…yeah they are young and they aren’t gonna be a Smith or a Geappen, but at least they are tall and mobile…provide a target, provide a contest and then let the smaller forwards in like Simpson, Duffy, Lester-Smith et al…make the opposition think for a change!

Still good to see the club promoting players though…good to see the likes of Jupp, Read, Hancock, Curley, Cronan, Simpson, Macdougall, Chalwell, Depane etc get debuts this year…2nd tier guys in Boyle, Tropiano, Jansen, Symonds, Cooper, Schofield and Henson need to keep developing…would really like to see Hooker given a go soon, he’s stuck his hand up nearly every week in the seconds, time to have a look at him.

If EF season is really over like some folk say…then blood guys like Marsh, Cripps, Jansen(J), Alirr etc then…but a lot can still happen, EF home form this year have been deplorable…all they need to do is win some games to keep in touch, SD have been up and down…Subi need Sinclair, Perth are getting a few injuries now, to go with their losses, EP rely heavily on Smith, Lycett and Johnson to give them that tall edge…WP are good but hey no world beaters, whilst CL keep on winning, but one can never tell what happens in August/Sept…

still lots to play for, always frustrating to lose, but to question whether your sides season is over already?..geez bit soon to make a call on that one don’t you think?

remember a lot of our games we have lost by small margins…need to start winning those games in the second half of the season now or we will struggle to make it
though with the up and results of many games…who knows how many wins will get you into the finals this year???

howson has got to come in…outstanding form in the ressies
is see cooyoo was bog last week
I agree with freeze…put youngy back on smith this week and bring in howson to ff
also duffy is out of sorts and imo he is playing too far up the ground…he is an exciting fwd and needs to stay inside our fwd 50 and not leave it!he gets lost anywhere else.

Duffy is and out and out opportunist…similar in mould to Kenny Judge, Jeff Cassidy and Neil Lester-Smith…none of those guys could cut it in the midfield due to their inability to curb their attacking instincts…Lyon is wasting his time trying to turn Duffy into something he is not…the guy is nightmare when it comes to consistency…but hey that’s why he is in the team…turn the game on it’s head in 5 - 15 minutes of X factor action…did it many a time last year within a 50 m radius of the big sticks!

Stiff upper lip boys, when it’s mathematically impossible to get into the 4, then I’ll submit. Till then, give me a good reason why we can’t turn the season around and be the team we were last year???

tomorrow will be real test of character

I hear what you sayin freeze about Lyon trying to turn Duffy into something he’s not, it’s like playing silvagni up forward, crazy stuff from a usually brilliant coach

thing is Tiger, I understand the need for players(esp AFL players) to be flexible and display both attacking/defensive styles, but some players are just out and out forwards, backs etc etc…don’t see why Lyon has this need to run Duffy thru the midfield,is he gonna do better than Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe etc?..

no Duffy is the sort of bloke who will try and take on all n sundry, rather than feed it off to a better option…better to do that close to your own goals, rather than in the middle of the ground or the oppositions forward line I reckon.

Agree, and would you agree Silvagni is an out and out back man? He ain’t his cousin.

Not only for the Sharks but the Royals also. Plus from here on in Subi,SD and Perth as I think there’s only one spot in the four up for grabs and that’s Perth’s ??? I think 6 wins for each will get them in the finals ?

The Sharks play the Tiggers twice so they must win against the Royals at least to have any chance to play finals they would also want to beat Subi twice and beat SF with two more wins against either Perth,WP or SD for 6 more wins - a win against Tiggers a super bonus !!! But that’s what they may need to do in the last game of the season ???

East Perth are looking reasonably safe ? If they can beat EF and then Subi twice with a win against PT and SF for 5 more wins with possible wins against WP,Perth and SD not out of the question and once again a Tiggers win a bonus ???

Perth still have a lot of work to do after a promising start - A vital win is required over Peel this week as they play them again in a month but they struggle against them usually so if they beat them once then beat SF twice and Subi once for 4 wins plus they would need to win at least 2 other games out of playing Tigers,WP,EP,SD,EF for 6 more wins to reach the finals.Perth and Swans have a game in hand on EF and Subi. Perth are capable from what we’ve seen so far but they just have to keep it together.

Swans look to be the team most capable on paper of knocking out Perth at this early stage. They do play the Tiggers twice though but would need one win out of the 2 games against WP with 2 wins against Peel, and wins against SF for 4 wins then they would probably require 2 wins out of games against EP,P and EF.

Subi look the most unlikely to get in but if they can knock off WP in a upset they will be a chance but if not would have to beat EF twice, EP at least once of their 2 games and then PT,SF and Perth for 6 wins with Peter Featherby more chance of making a comeback than downing the Tiggers again. Pushing it uphill to get in but have their best team on the park from this Sat.

For me its Swans for 4th spot with Perth a chance followed by EF and then Subi but who knows ? Surely 5 more wins couldn’t get you in ??? Let’s wait and see. It could I hope go down to the last round with EP playing Subi,Swans against WP,EF v’s Tiggers and Perth playing SF - There’s so many possibilities with Peel and South there to put a spanner in the works of the teams above them !!!

On current form we go into this game as heavy underdogs. East Perth have won 4 out of their last 5 games & strangely their only loss during this period was against Peel. This game probably marks the line in the sand. If we lose this we go 5-7, with Claremont the following week 5-8 could then follow. If we can win this we go 6-6 & can look at kick starting our season again. I hope Howson makes his debut given his form in the reserves & I don’t see the point in not playing him as he will be lost to us next year to the Chunder. It will be a real test for our side this round.

Agree, and would you agree Silvagni is an out and out back man? He ain’t his cousin.

Silvagni might not be his cousin…but yeah from what I have seen of him he is much like Dawson at Freo…designated backman, not pretty just dour and defensive…his cousin was a champ and had the ability to play both ends of the ground…

According to the Shark’s circle email there have been some late changes to our line up. Here is a copy of the main section:

New additions are Cameron Sutcliffe (Dockers) and Sheppard and Brennan (Eagles). Dodd is still out for one more week and Symonds, Read and Tropiano are the emergencies.

We’re without Hadley due to work commitments. After best on ground appearances for the Sharks, Bradd Dalziell returns to the Eagles as substitute.

Injury List

Matthew Jupp, concussion, available
James Saville, knee, test
Steven Dodd, knee, 1 week
Brad Dick, hamstring, 2 weeks

I am a bit surprised that Symonds has been listed as an emergency. Surely MacDougall would have been dropped before Symonds.
