BURNING QUESTION : Has the AFL officially become the most plastic, over-commercialised joke of a sporting league in the world, and is it about time we admit it?
Let’s be completely honest: the game is completely ruined. The AFL has systematically destroyed everything that made footy great just to cater to corporate sponsors and casual fans who don’t even know what a drop punt is.
Here are the facts that nobody wants to face:
- The umpiring is rigged. The “dissent” rule and these weekly rule tweaks aren’t about player safety; they are about manipulating the outcomes of games to keep big-market teams in the top eight for TV ratings.
- State leagues are dead. The AFL completely gutted the VFL, SANFL, and WAFL. They turned historic, proud clubs into nothing more than gutless reserve squads for billionaire franchises.
- The game has gone soft. You can’t even breathe on a player anymore without a whistle blowing. The legendary icons of the 70s, 80s, and 90s would be absolutely embarrassed by the staging and diving we see every single weekend now.
- Real fans are being priced out. Good luck taking a family of four to a game without taking out a second mortgage. The AFL doesn’t care about the die-hard, lifelong members anymore—they only care about corporate suites and selling $15 mid-strength beers.
The game we loved is gone. It’s not football anymore; it’s just a heavily manufactured reality TV show.
Change my mind, or even better yet, tell me which over-protected superstar is the best diver or faker?
