At the start of the year, fourteen scrapbooks covering the years 1938 to 41 were donated to the Swan Districts FC. They have been scanned and are now available to view at https://archive.org/details/book-8-…reat-victorian-players-of-yesterday-and-today
Book 8 includes a series of interviews with Gordon Coventry after he retired from the VFL. The books are mostly VFL articles and photos with some WA and SA included.
Well done to who ever did this. I know the patience required for these sort of things.
Great Champion of Game, the fella nicknamed “Nuts” by Team Mates,no doubt.
I’m wondering if he mentioned giving Richmond Full Back(think it was George Smeaton)a Christmas Card for attempting to alleviate his Boil issue on the back of his neck.
Nah!Gordon hit the roof quite literally, retaliated and missed a Pies Premiership in 1935 if I’m not mistaken.
PS - No.
It was 1936,it wasn’t George Smeaton(sorry George),it was Joe Murdoch who repeatedly hit several boils, not one big one.on the back of Gordon’s neck.
So Gordon missed out on a 6th Premiership with Collingwood, after his only Suspension in his eventual 306 Game Career,he retired after that Season, only to come back for one last Season in 1937 and he and the Pies did miss out, finishinb Runners Up to the Cats.
For my shaky memories,…
