Shawry was an enigma
A bitterly protracted clearance battle with Collingwood saw him sit out footy for near half of 1980
Ironic when you consider those slimy bastards stole just about anything that had 2 legs in those days via back door dollar deals - read Brian Taylor and the Richardson brothers as examples
They grabbed him back for 1981 but he never hit any heights and was eventually cleared to Richmond
Stephen Michael dominated the 1980 Grand Final ruck duels against Ron & Craig Hoyer in any case and Shawry just gave TI a few rest breaks at times
Still a couple of goals isn’t bad
Kicked 24 more Goals from 15 other games,so the Season wasn’t a complete waste.
It wouldn’t be with a Premiership Medal on his hands.He probably should have stayed at South for a couple more years.

I have interviewed a few from that years flag and all spoke highly of Shaw. He looked a classy player.Good mark and kick.
