Covid crisis number 1

Just had a call from Adam Simpson, he wants to know what I’m doing on Sunday and have I still got my footy boots……

Bring back Suma and Worsfold!
Just a point, is there not a provision in the playing conditions that if a club has a certain number of players unavailable due to COVID then the game is postponed and rescheduled? That happened last weekend in the womens AFL when Collingwood were unable to field a team. Or is it only in the AFLW that this happens?

I like the way Simpson is handling the issue - what you see is what you get. I think the Roos will cream the Eagles, but I hope the inclusions do themselves proud…..good luck to them.
As for the gloating Freo supporters comments, hmmmm, yeh pretty ordinary…people don’t forget.

Mikeh, the tipping point is the AFL team must field a min of 5 listed players, if they cant do that then the game is postponed. I think WC can field 18 listed players, with 4 WAFL top ups for the 22 and 4 more as emergencies.

Can you imagine any team fronting up to a full Melbourne or Doggies team with just 5 listed players and 17 state league part timers, it would be absolute carnage and an absolute disgrace. Given they have suspended betting on the WC v Roo’s game that clearly indicates the game is totally compromised.

As for Freo folk gloating about WC’s predicament, lets wait a week or so until they are inevitably decimated by Covid. I just hope the WAFL top up players dont get infected while they are with WC and get stuck in Melbourne for a couple of weeks, these guys have to work for a living, but i guess they have factored that in when they made them selves available. Just dont bring it back to your WAFL club.

They are showing a lot of guts and determination in the first half even though they are clearly outclassed. I reckon the whole episode is a disgrace and I wait to see what will happen if and when a Victorian club is similarly affected.
It would have been no skin off their nose to reschedule the game. The AFL has been doing that for the past 2 years. I agree the 5 player rule is a complete joke.

First time in a long while that I am going for the eagles. Very happy for Aaron Black

A very gutsy performance by the Eagles. The WAFL lads acquitted themselves well. So pleased for Aaron Black that he has an AFL goal.

Yes gutsy effort by the Weags, I thought North were pretty poor, any near full strength AFL team should have won by a min 10 goals, but they were fighting to survive in the last and if not for some poor goal shooting, WC may have stolen it. North were 1 short on the bench but no excuse for not thrashing an Eagles reserves team with 5 part timers added in.

I don’t understand how Luke Edward’s was fit and available for selection, he actually played after Ainsworth came off injured, yet Ainsworth, Black, Mountford and Giro were selected ahead of him?

Going to be a long season for West Coast - can’t see a win for them anytime soon.

I would hope that if any of the top up players cop a dose of Covid, then they are fully compensated. The club club concerned (the Eagles in this particular case) should fully compensate any personal expenditure and any costs involved in isolation and loss of job income for that period. They probably will, but with afl clubs screaming poverty, you just never know.

Based on todays happenings the derby may be a chance for them.

I have always liked Simpson and his approach to this whole thing has enhanced my view of him further. Instead of whinging like a lot of coaches would have, he has just accepted the situation and tried to make the best of it. It was great to see him enjoying the feats of his makeshift team today while the Kangaroos coach sat stony faced in the box.

It was an interesting comparison of the 2 coaching boxes. Simmo expected a 10/12 goal thumping and was enjoying it ….as much as he could enjoy a loss. At the end of the game Norths coaching panel had broad smiles and were congratulating Noble. I replayed the vision a couple of times and the look on his face knew that was not a game to be celebrated.

Covid aside, they should be able to pick up after the first 4 or 5 weeks. However, I think it’ll be too little too late.

Loved the Sportsbet post where they showed the scoreline with the Kangaroos logo alongside the WAFL logo
