What’s everyone’s thoughts about Baldivis switching over from the Peel league? Interesting starting them in C1?! Is their new ground going to be ready this year?
First thing they would to have do is stop paying half their team.
Royals78 - that old chestnut without proof
You can always guarantee that when an amateur side is mentioned this topic comes up without foundation or proof.
BTW - the new oval will not be ready in 2021 - I have heard its 2022/23
Helps when you personally know a couple of them that are rewarded for their efforts ?
Agreed Royals78 how does the competition allow a club knowingly paying its players to enter a competition.
I follow my A Grade Club and I know we have players that dont come for free.
Do you know them do you?
LOL - that old reply
They will have to jump through the same hoops that other clubs have too and you admitting that Your A Grade club pays players is interesting - why don’t you name who you support then
Why when the whole competition does it, its a flawed system and the competition picks and chooses who they target.
Silent but deadly you are dilusional if you think clubs such as CBC, Nrth Freo, Scarb, North Beach dont do it.
Absolutely Johnno. Anyone who has been involved in recruitment activities knows how widespread it is. Anyone who thinks otherwise should wake up. When you’re trying to get talent to you team and they say, I’ve been offered X to play for Y ammo’s club, then you fast learn that the vast majority of top grade clubs (at least) entice players either themselves or through associates. Proving it is the hard part from those conversations alone but it is what it is.
It’s amusing isn’t Blunder?
We all know what goes on except the league.
Might have something to do with connections.
Either way, we can only hope credibility creeps back into the PFL?
We either need to look at ‘amateur status’ or hope the new WAFC board take a more active interest in Community football.
Either way, I won’t hold my breath!
Until the WAFC publicly acknowledges that their past measure of success (and probably their only measure) is the number of players drafted to AFL/AFLW was (and remains) wrong, we are banging our head up against a brick wall in hoping for change.
The football community needs to be told by the WAFC that we all matter - not just the Eagles and Dockers, and to a more limited extent, the WAFL.
Payment of players is rife in the PFL - we all know that. Proving it is something else.
I watched first placed C1 Baldivis play second placed Melville today and smash them by 13 goals. Can anyone tell me why Souths 2020 premiership player Steven Verrier is suiting up for Baldivis when he could be getting $1000 a game in the country? Same goes for the likes of Branchi and a couple of others. Surely they’re having a laugh at amateur status at the rest of the comps expense.
BC,
Not to cast dispersions on any specific club because as we learnt it’s easy to make accusations.
I can say it’s a joke… through personal experience with the club I’m involved in that they target the weakest.
We we’re a C4 club on top of the ladder and a accusation was made that we we’re paying a player.
To keep short and relevant I will stick to basic fact (happy to share more detailed info when required by PM)
Anyway, we were ‘offered’ a two game loss of premiership points to ‘resolve’ the matter.
As we were top of ladder we could have easily accommodated such a punishment HAD WE DONE THE CRIME of offering travel money…we said NO, why?
Quite simply we had not done it!
The rest is history…they bully the little clubs as they have limited recourses both financially and in most cases with connections.
Had the club had the financial capacity it would have progressed to the public court system.
We did not…as it was it almost destroyed us.
It gutted us, the system is flawed but there is no real ‘will’ to address it.
Didn’t said player do you blokes in?
Usually there’s smoke/fire, actual proof of any wrong doing usually is almost impossible to get
Benny,
Yes ‘Said’ player (Witness X) did DO US IN!
That’s exactly why we wanted to get to public court system…so as Witness X would have to testify in a court of Law.
Having had bit of country football management experience any 4-5 point player can get $600-800 per game in virtually any country league in WA and if you are prepared to go to Kalgoolie you can double that.
It is common practice for country teams to bring in and move on paid players prior to June 30 depending on how the season is going so they only pay for 1/2 the season which is good management which ever way you play it.
So lets look at Bladivis who have 3 x 4-5 point players. Verrier from Sth Freo was a very good WAFL player who has been there all yr (is he coaching?) & Boullineau also a very good WAFL player who arrived a couple of weeks before 30th June from Peel but was a Baldivis junior so benefit of the doubt there. The one that really smells is Blaine Johnson who in 2018, amidst a heap of fan fair and was headlines in the local newspapers, left Sth Freo mid season to join Baldivis when they were in the Peel league and top of the ladder. He was openly being paid then and as Peel is it a semi pro league no issue .He then moves to Kambalda for substantially more money but Kamalada are terrible this yr so surprise surprise just before the 30th June he returns to Baldivis! Baldivis were paying substantial money for players in the Peel league (including a large contingent from West Perth for many yrs)so why would the Ammo’s think this would just stop because they changed leagues?
Some very good questions there FN and given Johnson kicked 11 goals against second placed Melville a couple of weeks ago I’m sure they’d like some answers too.
Unfortunately Not going to happen BC. C1/B is too high a grade and would bring attention to “A” grade’s murky dealings!
More likely to see a small club in the lower grades again being targeted to make it look like they are trying to clamp down when we know they are not.
They will never stamp it out while the members of so called “Integrity Unit” have allegiances to PFL clubs.Never going to bust their own club!
What about North Beach . Nic Ried was playing for the Eagles last year . He would of got around $150 grand for the season now playing for nothing.
They also have at least 15-20 players with recent WAFL experience who would get big dollars in the Bush.
Absolutely Jords we agree with you!!
