I have just read an article about kids being with drawn from sporting activities due to the cost and the cost of living.
I know all sports would be suffering, but I just wonder what the AFL is doing about this situation.
The AFL proudly tell us all that they are protecting the game and promoting it.But are they!
A Billion dollar Empire run by self serving administrators.
They drip feed small amounts to state and second tier competitions to keep the game running. But, is it enough. It would appear that here in WA. the WAFC and the WAFL never have enough to survive safely.
Junior and country football needs to be given more.
I have no idea just how much the WAFC and WAFL get, it is obvious that it is nowhere near enough. There are so many lower levels of our game to be fed, and I have no idea just how many, but all need funds from the “protectors” of our game. But obviously it is not enough.
The two AFL clubs have to give the WAFC and WAFL(I think) a certain amount every year, But is it nough. I think I read recently, that the amount in recent years has diminished. How can that be when they both have large member numbers and have large profits.
The AFL are pulling the wool over theyes of a large number of people by insisting on calling out that their kids play AFL. Making Mums in particular think they , the AFL are the saviours.
Our game is Australian Rules, or Aussie rule, not AFL.
AFL is a brand name for a competiton, run by a Boys Club.
Spot on A/man. Its no more than “the circus is coming to town” now.
Different rules for different levels of the game, that in itself a joke.
AFL NO different to any large cororation, be it banks, supermarkets, airlines, telcos etc. It is such a shame. Yeah i’ll watch me team and SOME afl next year, BUT the 100% passion for the game, is dwindling year by year.
Next year i’ll go to me local footy, with REAL supporters who know the game, grab a beer and food at REASONABLE prices, knowing the money doesnt go to the greedy grubs at the AFL…end of rant
I read somewhere a few weeks ago they have lost 50 million with the AFLW program
No surprises there…all for inclusion, equal rights and all that…but too many teams, way too soon in to the competition’s development…that is one hell of a loss if true.
Welcome on board @winning .
That may just be the tip of the iceberg.
As I said Freez, may be just the tip of the iceberg.
Its also a mickey mouse competition as it starts at the end of the mens season and there are only 10 rounds so a teams chances of making finals is determined by who they play and who they don’t. All but one of the finals have been one sided romps. Too many teams, they have expanded too much too soon.
Contrast this with the NRLW that plays concurrently with the mens season and is a real competition
yup lost $50 Million…but thats a pie and sauce to the AFL in the scheme of things.
Despite ALL the media as well as channel 7 plugging the heck out of it, it just doesnt appeal to the majority of footy followers.
But “the business” that is AFL, will continue to throw money at it.
