Just setting this thread up,to get this seperate from the Circus.
Not a great start but when Hardie, Connelly, Jhye Richardson and others return they may be a bit more competitive. The batting looks very shaky I must say
Scary bit is none of the returning players are top order batters, so me expects that it could be a hard year if there is no one at the top that can dig in and score consistent runs. Its easy for the middle order when the work is done but its not a good outcome to rely on the middle order to bail you out all the time
For some unknown reason, there is nothing on the Cricinfo cricket site about the Women’s One day match between WA and Tasmania played at the WACA yesterday.
For those interested, following are the scores.
| Team | Score | Key Performers |
|---|---|---|
| Tasmania Women | 232 (45 overs) | Tabatha Saville 79 (86), Lizelle Lee 50 (42) Ruby Strange (WA) 5-49 |
| Western Australia Women | 236/6 (35.2 overs) | Beth Mooney 117* (94), Alana King 55* (58) |

Thanks PH.
I read with more than a bit of shock that WA couldn’t find a place for Corey Rocchiccioli in their 20 over garbage team
That screams just about everything about the modern day WACA in plain black & white
A player who should be in South Africa helping the 40 and 50 year olds try and stay in the series somehow
Ridiculous situation where an absolute UK nobody gets signed up and our best young talent gets ignored
Totally agree Southy. What an absolute joke.
As you say, a UK nobody and an opener who did virtually nothing when he was last here.
Nick Hobson to Hobart
Mate, pretty sure Finn Allen was a spud in his first season for the Scorchers…one can only hope Crawley finds the same success as Allen did in his 2nd season for the Scorchers…time will tell…
Interesting squad of 13 for the first shield game
Batsmen
Bancroft , Fanning, Goodwin, Cartwright
All rounders
Hardie, Esterhuysen
Wicketkeeper
Curtis
Bowlers
Couch
Elliott
Haskett
Paris
Richardson
Rocciocholli
I dont know but that seems like a batsman short or they are obviously going to bat Curtis at 6?
Gee Esterhuysen would be happy being called an all rounder Mike?
He’s an out an out tailender at this stage of his career.
Hardie also playing as just a batsman due to injury.
Ok didnt know much about him, definitely a bowler![]()
Going to be a long tail in this game with Paris looking likely to bat at 7
Weather looking a bit dire at the moment, might restrict the amount of play today
I found it interesting we are the only state without a debutant in the first round, when we have been so far behind we have been the past two years to not blood someone makes me nervous we will get more of the same
So we’re playing an unfit player?
one could argue there is more than 1 unfit player based on exposed form so far this year
Sam Fanning, Cameron Bancroft, Tom Murray, Hilton Cartwright, Aaron Hardie (c), Joel Curtis (wk), Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Kieran Elliott, Corey Rocchiccioli, Albert Esterhuysen
Fair tail - Murray wasn’t in the original squad so maybe we have a debutant - don’t seem to know much about him
I had never heard of him so I Googled and this is what came up.
Tom Murray plays for the University of Western Australia Cricket Club in the WA Premier District Cricket competition.
As a prolific opening batter, he hit four centuries during the 2025–26 season to help lead University to back-to-back first-grade premiership titles. Following his strong Premier Cricket form and performances for WA’s Second XI, Murray was awarded his first full state contract with Western Australia for the 2026–27 season.
So there you go. Seek and ye shall find
So what happened to Goodwin?
Apparently felt unwell this morning.
