Bookmaker Research Methodology
How the pages under Bookmakers are put together: where each fact comes from, how AFL prices are sampled, what is measured and what is not, how often each part is re-checked, and how to get something corrected.
Source hierarchy
- 1Australian regulators. Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission register, ACMA, and state regulators. Used for licensing and the rules every operator is bound by.
- 2Legislation. Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and the National Consumer Protection Framework for online wagering, via legislation.gov.au and the responsible department.
- 3Official operator documentation. The bookmaker's own help centre, terms and product pages. Used for payments, verification, support and features, quoted verbatim.
- 4Apple and Google. App Store and Play listings via their public lookup endpoints. Ratings shown are the store's own averages.
- 5OzFootball data. Our AFL odds snapshots and live feed. The only source for competitiveness figures.
- 6Reputable third parties. Used for discovery and cross-checking. Never the sole source of a fact.
- 7Public review sources. App store reviews and public review sites, aggregated into theme counts. Never republished.
Every fact on a bookmaker page carries its source, the date it was checked and a confidence level, visible by opening the check mark beside it. A fact with no acceptable source is shown as "Not currently verified" rather than filled in.

One price snapshot per round from The Odds API (Australian region), taken 24 hours before the round's first scheduled match. A comparable price is one outcome priced by at least 3 bookmakers at the same line. Best price is the highest decimal price on offer; ties are shared. Margin is the overround of a two-sided market at a bookmaker's own line (sum of 1/price minus 1). Exchange prices (Betfair) are shown before commission.
Period 4 Mar 2026 to 25 Sep 2026. 12 bookmakers returned prices. Configured bookmakers absent from the feed all season: bet365_au. Those are reported as "not measured", never estimated.
Limits: one snapshot per round does not capture line movement; a bookmaker that posts only head-to-head is compared on fewer prices than one posting line and totals as well; markets with fewer than three bookmakers at the same line are excluded. From the 2027 season the live feed records a snapshot every six hours during a round, so the sample grows and the figures are recomputed on a schedule rather than once.
Customer sentiment
OzFootball has no customer reviews of its own and does not publish an aggregate rating. Public reviews from app stores and review sites are collected through their public endpoints, deduplicated, and each review is assigned to one or more themes from a fixed list (app usability, crashes, login, verification, withdrawal delays, withdrawal process, deposits, account restrictions, odds, market range, streaming, support, promotions, responsible gambling, other) by keyword rules that are the same for every bookmaker.
A theme count says how often something was mentioned; it does not verify that any individual claim is true. Four and five star reviews count as positive, one and two as negative, three as neutral. Sample sizes, date ranges and the star distribution published by each source are shown beside the themes.

Each page shows three dates: when it was editorially reviewed, when its facts were last checked by the automated pipeline, and when live prices were read. A field older than its window is flagged in the research audit, not silently kept.
Publication gate
A bookmaker page is only listed in the sitemap and opened to search engines once its profile has at least 8 sources and 25 verified facts, a licence verified against the regulator, at least one verified deposit and withdrawal method, a verified support channel, a verified app listing, at least 2 evidence-backed strengths and 2 limitations, and an editorial review date. Until then it carries a noindex tag and a visible draft notice.
Corrections and affiliate disclosure
If a fact on a bookmaker page is wrong or out of date, use the contact page with the page URL and the source that contradicts it. Corrections are made to the data file, dated, and listed in the page's change log once verified.
