Essendon coaching vacancy

Well for all the topics you have created and posts you’ve been bombing (no pun intended) Ozfootball with Grassy, I am quite staggered you have failed to create this topic being a mad passionate Essendon supporter. Or have you dropped off them?

Anyway onto the topic and hopefully Grassy you can channel your focus on a sensible response.

What gets me, was listening to Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze on SEN briefly today and I confess I don’t watch a lot of AFL shows but I watch a bit here and a bit there and read bits and pieces.

Everyone is on their high horse about what Essendon should do but correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t there a rule that no club can conduct interviews or even informal discussions with opposition assistant coaches (or rival head coaches for that matter), until 4 weeks before the end of the season? So I’d say that means no point advertising the position until 4 weeks to go.

I think Terry Daniher said it best, he said I’ve got no problem with James Hird coaching Essendon again if that’s what he and the club wants but they have to go through a thorough process and James has to get in the line and go through the process.

My own personal opinion is James Hird is a wanker but now he’s declared his hand it’s a case of damned if they do and damned if they don’t appoint James Hird. They have to scratch that itch to satisfy the natives otherwise there’ll be hell to pay.

Hird hasn’t coached for 10 years and wasn’t a very successful one in his day either. I find it quite amusing that people like Sheedy is presenting him as some type of modern day Messiah.

Essendon need to look at how Melbourne have been revitalised this year under a young ambitious coach who has come through the ranks at a successful club (Geelong) and put together a shortlist of the best assistants rather than go back to a has been like Hird

Yep.

TD Nailed it!

Hirdy(who I gave a Serve on Bombertalk,CRAWLING to the AFL last night),should go through a Full and thorough process.

If he turns out to be the best candidate,so be it.But I’d prefer someone like Longmire, despite his recent Grand Final record,so long as he doesn’t bring Simpson with him.

No offence Adam, but after turning West Coast into a Trainwreck,no thanks.

If what TD says on this upsets Sheeds, stiff sh*t!

You’ve been great for the Club Kevin, but it’s time to move on as a wheeler and dealer at Windy Hill.

I remember a game at Subiaco Oval before the drug scandal and Hird was coach. We (Fremantle) were going along pretty comfortably before Essendon went bang and ran away with a leg in the air. Then not long after that their players were suffering from soft tissue injuries.

I think Essendon was going well before the bombshell drug accusations came out. James along with at least half the team were stood down and I think James resumed his contract when he and the players had served a 12 month ban from memory. But by then the damage was done so I wouldn’t judge him on his second coming. But did he have his fingerprints all over what occurred? I believe so.

At the end of it all, despite all the tooing and froing witg Pete,I was crook they let Stephen(where is he now)Dank in any door, after being warned not to.

Cronulla and Shane Flanagan had their own Peptides scandal,he sat out a year with a whole bunch of players, then Won a famous Premiership(funny that)and the mud didn’t stick to them.

We got NOWHERE with all that and the Mud stuck.

He should stick to 9Media,where Eddie will probably look after him.

Great post rnb and I agree….Hird is a dead set wanker. I wonder if he still has the keys to the little place across the road:wink::wink:
