Sheffield Shield

This is embarrassing 2 for 9 chasing 450. The three peat sheffield shield was only a few years ago but seems like decades now

We barely looked like taking a wicket and the Vics have claimed 2 in a few overs.
Our batting especially is a rabble.

I guess Boland is better then most BH TBH…but Victoria’s bowling attack is far better depth wise then WA’s current attack…Agree about Harper…FC ave of 24 after a decade of playing…back to back ton’s in this match…you know you are struggling when Harper does this…he is Victoria’s white ball opener at best…but well done to the fella, definitely had a match to remember.

Vics should have us at least 4 down by Stumps, but their Captain let us off the Hook.

1st with an unnecessarily late Declaration, when a lead of 330 with our Feeble Batting was more than enough!

Then with Suthetlsnd’s P.Poor Bowling before Stumps!

Geez, talk about releasing the Pressure Valve!

Can’t remember a worse season for WA in the last 20 years. If they lose to Victoria today which is almost certain, they will be over 30 points behind the vics after only 8 games. Thats the equivalent of 5 outright wins!

Disgraceful effort by the WA batsmen. Only Curtis showed any fight at all. The others have just let the Vics walk all over them. Boland must have been bowling hand grenades on a pitch that the WA bowlers couldn’t extract any life from. Looks like most of the WA players have checked out of the season and are going through the motions for a coach who they know is not going to be there next year. Maybe Voges should step aside for the remaining games and allow an interim coach like Casson work with the players

Going to be hard to get a good coach if he is looking at WA cricket right now - the cupboard is very bare and minimal players in the national under 19’s from WA for the past couple of years

4 hours looks a bit generous now…oh well got the batting calvary to come back now in Inglis, Green and Marsh…lol

In close to 50 years following WA cricket I cannot think of a worse performance than the one we dished up over the last 3 and a bit days and on our own home deck.
Pitiful batting knocked over for 114 which is less than Sam Harper alone scored in both of his innings.
Joel Curtis the only one to put up even a fight.
Yes i know we have quite a few players out at the moment on national duties and through injury but where is that WA pride we have had for most of our 80 seasons of Shield Cricket??!!
That was a reasonable Vic side but nowhere near the class of other teams they have sent over here previously and been humbled, really only Boland & Handscomb have played a reasonable amount of Test cricket!

In trouble there is no doubt. I think we had only one player in the Unders19 team. Is it time to ravage the other stayes, as has happened to WA of recent times. Plenty have left because of our strength.

It is hard to believe that Western Australia won the Sheffield Shield, Marsh One-Day Cup, and Big Bash League all in the same season as recently as the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

This has been widely posted about here for 2 seasons now mate
the leadership left the building around that time
Whiteman & Bancroft have been dismal up top
yes there’s been more of them as well
but these two warts have to be moved on now
those two needed to provide the backbone in the second innings
and I was hoping Wyllie might prove me wrong in a big way
but seeing the second innings shit show said everything
good on Curtis for showing almost all of them up though
and Fanning in the first innings
WA has to blood what is in the premier league , anything and everything
as I’ve posted numerous times previously
there isn’t one single morsel of intent
Bancroft spent nearly 2 hours for 12 runs for example
and that is all too typical of that player

So which likely types in the Premier grade that need to be blooded. Agree Whiteman, Bancroft, Cartwright etc need to be moved on…but who are we talking about here? Are we talking Malajcuk? Wasley? Budge?..understand the need to cull, but be intetested in folk saying more then just youngsters need to be blooded…let’s hear some names…

Just 2 games left against QLD & NSW away.
Gee we have been abysmal at home the last 2 years, the old WACA fortress is now a distant memory as this current lot fold like a deckchair consistently.
Whiteman not only in poor form with the bat but his Captaincy has to be questioned as well.
Why would he win the toss and bowl the last 2 games?

Overall Batting confidence is totally shot, mate.

No line of thinking on the old Tony Lock approach, when Winning the Toss.

This will be Voges opinion in the paper tomorrow

But Voges said the team’s remaining veterans would not be tipped out to blood more players for the future.

ā€œI don’t know if we’re going much younger than what we are at the moment, to be honest,ā€ he said.

ā€œPeople (talk) about youth, but if you look at those three young guys (Sam Fanning, Jayden Goodwin and Teague Wyllie), Joel Curtis hasn’t played a lot of cricket, Kade Povey’s making his debut… we’re pretty young already.

ā€œWe’ve just got to find that balance of getting experience and opportunities for some guys and equally being competitive, because we weren’t competitive this week. That’s all we’ve got to reflect on.ā€

Keeping tabs on Tas v NSW.

Cockroaches need 134 off 13 Overs, with 6 Wickets in hand.

Come on Tassie.

Anyone but NSW!

NSW get out of Jail.

Match Drawn

appears mediocrity is an accepted custom
and one that will be enforced right to the bitter end
it’ll be right there with the worst ever results this state has seen in the shield

I agree, i think Voges should step aside with 2 to play and let McDonald or Casson come in as interim coach. Bancroft is still in the top 3 run scorers in the shield comp so moving him on is a big call. The guys who perform so well at grade level now are also older players, Bosisto, Wells etc I am not sure going super young is the way forward just yet either. Throwing them in too early could ruin those players as well. Tom Murray from Uni, Blaxall-Hill at Perth, Critchell from MG all are a little older and have performed well at Premier level for a few years. I would just be wary of throwing a Malajcuk, Budge into the fire at their age. Wasley is currently injured so will need to see where he is at but he is the master of getting to 40 and then out in grade cricket.
