Travis Head is unavailable Freezin, he is off to the IPL
Money talksā¦franchise cricket raising itās ugly headā¦Head is SA boyā¦obviously enjoys an expensive curry or three
It may turn into a 4 day match as the Melbourne forecast is pretty dire for Day 1. Looks OK for the other 4 days at this stage. Makes the 1st innings bonus points very important
The final will be impacted by the weather
Tomorrow 6 -20mm showers increasing
Friday 1 -9 mm showers windy
Saturday 1- 6mm Showers
Sunday 0-1 mm Partly cloudy
Monday No rain
So there may be no play at all on Thursday and they could be on and off the ground on the Friday and Saturday
Victoria donāt have the luxury of winning the shield if the game is a draw so if there is no outright result it will come down to bonus points earned in the first 100 overs of each teams first innings. 1 wicket = 0.1 points, every run after 200 = 0.01 points, so if a team is bowled out for 300 in the 99th over, both teams would get 1 bonus point.
Not sure what happens if they canāt get 200 overs in, I assume the Vics would win it then having finished top
Be interesting to see what the decision will be from Winning the Toss.
Vics Won the Toss and put the Croweaters in.
SA 3/55 after 28 Overs and a Rain Delay.
SURPRISE!
![]()
Fantastic knock by Alex Carey (with good support from all rounder McAndrew) has given the Vics something to think about a tricky 200 chase on a wicket doing a bit.
A couple of early poles for the Croweaters just to get the Vic sheds a little nervous ![]()
Vics donāt need to chase the Target.
They only need to Draw, being ahead in this Game on Bonus Points.
The Vics would not be sleeping easy tonight, still 94 to get with 5 wickets left. They really lost it a bit tactically when they stopped trying to get Carey out and were focusing on McAndrew but he is quite an accomplished batsman and he moved the score along quite nicely in a partnership which at least gives them a chance of pulling off victory
Great effort by SA to get back in the matchā¦..anyoneās contest now, as Victoria bat deep, and still a pretty good chance to get over the line. Hopefully SA win thoughā¦.go back to back, who would of thought that 18 months back.. ..kudos to Harris for turning SA shield fortunes around.
Good start to the last day of the cricket season by the SACAs knocking over the 2 nightwatchmen Murphy & Perry within the first 3 overs.
SA need 3 wickets, the Vics still need 84 runs but have Peake & OāNeill at the crease & Sutherland in next.
Game onā¦.
What an outstanding shield final. Cricket is the ultimate test of skills and endurance. The SACAs deserve the result. Played fearless cricket.
That was a Carlton-scale choke by the Vics.
The SACAs took the last remaining 5 wickets in the first 45 minutes of the day.
Gee the Vic commentators were speechless.
Pity we didnt get the luxury of a WA commentary team for our 3 Shield wins in a row, we instead had to put up with the pro East Coast lot of Symonds, Peacock, McNamara etc who were just picking up a 5 day wage such was their lack of interest in WA winning!
They BLEW IT by allowing Carey and McAndrew to get away from them, instead of skittling them early.
Vics played the ultimate price for letting the game drift for a few hours yesterday when they were right on top. Having said that, Carey and McAndrew played the situation perfectly. Ryan Harris would have to be on the radar of the Australian Heirarchy for the National job once McDonald is done
They wouldnāt be an orphan in that Department. What gets in their heads allowing that to happen?
Cricket Boards begging them to stretch the game out?
Handscomb and M Harris showed why they are on the Baggy Green scrap heapā¦..two terrible shots on the cusp of stumpsā¦.gave SA a sniff, and started the rot for the hosts. Fantastic effort by SA, kudos to R Harris et a in the Redback set up. Head must be spewing missing out on these back 2 back SA winsā¦.the IPL money whilst lucrative, will come and goā¦..but the memories of these SA wins will last forever for the SA players and fans.
Great century by Alex Carey. With some good support from the tail.
Great to see Henry Thornton in the wickets.Missed the BBL with injury.Took big wickets in both innings.Love his nickname
Run Away Train.
Travis Head has been at the peak of his powers since the World Cup and the Ashes. Life at the top of your game is usually pretty brief. Can hardly blame him for cashing in while the sun shines. 2 million bucks for 6 weeks work is something no one can pass up.
Totally agree, donāt blame Head one bit for cashing in while he canā¦..though considering SA cricket has been in the doldrums for a long long time, not sure how long that wave of success will last for the SA teamā¦ā¦just a matter of what means the most to an individual I guessā¦.well played SAā¦..a win from the depths of defeatā¦.
