Sheffield Shield

Agar
Cartwright
Critchell
Gannon (rt)
Holt
Haskett
Jackson
Wasley
Whiteman

Every chance you can kiss good bye to Wyllie, Fanning and Goodwin to other states.

Lochie Hardie, Kade Povey and the Perth hyphen in.

Unfortunately it will not matter what any outsider thinks or believes
part of the same coaching regime will still be malingering
spuds like Bancroft & Whiteman will still be up top
and providing very little direction apart from leading WA to the bottom again
there simply isn’t a shred of intent or will to counter-attack
evidenced by today’s insipid display yet again
70 overs for 139 runs ?
you seriously have to be telling yourself lies if you believe there is any light in this regime

30 players on the current WA list (some are also CA contracted- Green, Marsh, Inglis, Connolly, Richardson etc)

Agar
Bancroft
Beardman
Budge
Cartwright
Connolly
Couch
Critchell
Curtis
Esterhuysen
Fanning
Gannon
Goodwin
Green
Hardie
Haskett
Holt
Inglis
Jackson
Kelly
Marsh
Morris
Paris
Quiggin
Richardson
Rocchicioli
Turner
Whiteman
Wasley
Wyllie

Agar, Cartwright, Critchell, Holt, Quiggin, Whiteman, Wasley all probably or should be goneski.
Doubts over 37yo Gannon who was our leading wicket taker continuing.
Fanning, Goodwin & Wyllie probably head hunted to head interstate.
Malajczuk the only WA player in the Under 19 World Cup squad should be added.

Daz I would like to have seen Jackson given a run in red ball cricket but he seems to have been pigeon holed as a white ball bowler only by the WACA hierarchy.
He’s been taking wickets for fun in the 50 over stuff, swings the ball at a decent clip.
Are they concerned his body wont handle the 4 day grind?

When was the last time WA only won 1 game in a SS season?
We actually even won 2 in our very first season 1947/48 from only 4 games ffs!

Mate the last two seasons should have every single accountable WACA person shitting themselves
or at the very least extremely concerned for the immediate welfare of their well paid gigs
this enormous drop-off of performance is bloody catastrophic in a sporting sense
the lack of fight or fight back is appalling - deplorable
we cannot score for hours on end now
the so-called leaders Whiteman & Bancroft are the main culprits
yes I know there are more but these two take more than 50% of the overs batting
Shipperd was available but the flogs took the easy option and went with the same old

I thought someone said that Fanning had just signed a 3 year contract with WA, BH?

Runs scored in 2025-26 season
Bancroft 674 at 33.7
Whiteman 427 at 21
Fanning 358 at 35.8
Green 355 at 44.3
Hardie 436 at 33.5
Curtis 333 at 22.2
Cartwright 352 at 22
Inglis 65 at 16.5
Connolly 216 at 30.8
Goodwin 267 at 26.7
Wyllie 59 at 14.7
Only Green averaged over 40 and a number of the top order batsmen were in the low 20s
The bowlers actually were quite competitive for most of the year but you just won’t win games with these sorts of figures

Anyone get a whiff at Cameron blowing up at a Reporter(Tom Decent of SMH)after Stumps yesterday, outside the SCG?

They were playing at Cricket Central not the SCG Grassy.

Sorry,forgot already.

Apparently the top 10 aggregates in the shield this season - all had averages in the 30’s…Iguess a worry, but then look how many of the top 10 wicket takers had sub 24 averages…pitches green as or the batsmen of today have no temperament or technique?
Back in the day when the top run scorers would of had 40+ averages…I wonder how many of the top 10 wicket takers back then had sub 24 bowling averages?

Good that the Pitches have got a bit of spice in them, despite our complaining about them(me included).

But Batting techniques on them have left a lot to be desired and poor shot selection when time isn’t an issue, often came into play.

Especially Western Australia.

The biggest issue to me is the number of multi format players. If you look at the ones that played for WA in the last SS match a fair % tge have in recent times played T20 and limited overs games either BBL or for OZ.I haven’t checked but I think the same could be said for the other states as well. The ability of the players to constantly adapt to changing formats at the moment is questionable.Too much chopping and changing… yeah yeah I know it brings in the money but at what cost? The offshoot at the moment is that T20 shots are being played in red ball cricket (remember Konstas ?)

I would hold onto Quiggin, Wasley and Critchell.
2 are very young and Critchell has shown some traits that he can compete at the level.
Fanning has already resigned with WA for 3 years and 100% agree that Malajczuk needs to be added but not seen as the savior, he needs time to develop. Povey has shown enough in the last few Premier Seasons to replace Cartwright and play that role.

Wyllie i feel will be heading east for more opportunity, especially if they bring back Whiteman, Bancroft and Cartright.

I agree with the coaching, i think they need to look outside the box. Get some fresh eyes and opinions in there to be assistants at least.
Jason Thompson from Perth Cricket Club is one i would be talking to, 8 flags in the last 3 - 4 years across all formats, surely, he would have something to offer with the record. Brendan Diamanti as a former international player and coach would be worth talking to as well.

Be interested to see who would be interested in Wyllie TBH…definitely a talent…but not the first player to struggle to maxmise their talent/promise…each state seems to have plenty of those… Qld - Clayton, Burdon, Hearne
NSW - Olly Davies, Shaw, Gilkes
SA -Fraser- McGurk, Harvey, Kelly
Tas - Radhakrishnan, Jewell, Owen
Vic - Dixon, Chandrasinghe, Rogers

No doubt a few more from each state…can’t see Casson giving the kid any more opportunities then what Voges did…especially since Casson was 2IC…the older boys need to go, they had their time…and success… and the WA fans will be forever grateful, the cliff has come sadly, and they need to be shown the door…circle of life I guess.

Cannot wait for the WAFL season to get started.

Yep.

Cricket’s pretty much Done and Dusted for me for '25/26.

The Dees at Fletcher Park have pretty much finished, with maybe 1 or 2 Teams outside the 1sts to 4ths,still in the Hunt for a Trophy.

I’ll keep an ear out for Shield Final Scores.

But I think my Saturday arvo Cricket runs have run it’s course, unless there’s something still going on the 28th.

So onwards to the Footy we go.

Hopefully SA go back to back…though Victoria have been the best side all year and deserve the win…their bowing attack with Boland, O’Neill, Perry, Elliott, Sutherland and Murphy looks more then decent, especially at the Shield level…SA batting line up with Carey, Hunt, Head, Sangha, Scott and Lehmann has the ability to put up a decent score if on song…touch wood they can

If it’s a Draw, whoever notches up the most Bonus Points over the 1st Innings Wins it.

So the Home Team can’t necessarily drop Anchor and grind out 500,unless it puts them ahead.

Then it’s up to the Team behind to force the pace,to try and Win it.
