ODI series

There is 18 months to the World cup and the selectors need to settle on a squad that they think gives us the best chance of defending it although as we have seen England will be very hard to beat. Once they have settled on the 14 or 15 players they need to back them in and not chop and change the team like they have in this series ( they have been experimenting a bit I think). Once there is some continuity in the group then player performances will improve as they won’t be looking over their shoulder all the time. I think that all the guys who are in the current squad ( other than White and Paine) should be in this ongoing group. Carey should be installed as the ODI keeper as soon as possible. Others who should be considered include Maxwell, Turner, Agar, Stanlake, Lynn and Maddinson.

And Smith replaced as Captain by perhaps, Finch. Definitely NOT Warner.

Well mikeh, Carey is in the T20 squad so hopefully a step away from being Aust sole ODI keeper… surprised Maxwell is in the T20 squad and not Turner tho…

Smith is rested for the T20 series it seems…LOL…Aust need to pick players who can clear the boundary on a regular basis… Smith isn’t renowned for his six hitting is he…anyway good to see Short selected…

Ark not doubting Smith’s batsmanship, just don’t think a batsman who can’t find the boundary regularly or score at a run a ball should be playing ODI one would think…but hey happy to eat humble pie.

Smith’s too worried about getting and ruining his average.
I think he has started to believe all the hype written about him.
Bradman comparisons etc.

they need to pick five batsmen and an all-rounder-- the batsmen should include usman k.

As I have said before, we have pretend all-rounders in this country; if they pick Maxwell, they never bowl h him, they are following a similar pattern with Mitch Marsh.

Not quiet sure Smudjar Smith is at fault for the 3-0 down to the Poms. There side has been playing together longer than ours.Morgans captaincy far more aggressive than Roots. And far less predicable. And the POM’s are picking batsmen on there T20 Big Smash form. They ripped the game apart in there last 5 overs ysrda.

The Poms have out played us in every single facet of the games played so far.Better bating better bowling, maybe better fielding, and with out doubt better running between wickets.
With out doubt, you have to have players that his boundaries and at times clear the ropes. But going back a few years, as Healey asked yesterday, where are the like of Jones, Bevan and Hussey who scampered two when there was only one.Three when there as two. Our batsmen have become lazy.hot the ball almost to the boundary and saunter a single.Smash the ball as hard as you can… but hit it to a fieldsman.
A prime example yesterday, Finch hit a ball probably 60 metres in the air, landed about ten metres in from the boundary… they ran one!!!FFS .
Hit the ball between the fieldsmen not to them.Maybe the Poms field placing is good, but how hard is it to alter the placement of the ball from time to time.
Watch the Scorchers running between wickets, and listen to the commentators say how did they run two on that!!!
A blight on our coaching staff for allowing such poor running between wickets.

Correct Anchorman, too many of our batsmen are bash or block players and if the bowling is up to a good standard and they bowl to their field it is easy for an opposition captain to dry them up. Quick running between the wickets frustrates the bowlers and fielders and may cause errors which then leads to more runs. If batsmen are in the mindset of running quick singles and twos, it is very hard for fielders to run them out as long as they don’t hesitate. Most of the Scorchers batsmen are masters at this and it only occasionally goes pear shaped like that brilliant throw from Joffa Archer that ran out Voges the other night

Another thing on the game last night.Smith has come in for a fair amount of criticism over his dismissal last night.
From watching it my opinion is this.He was walking and accepted the catch had been taken. He was walking.
Then the umpires called him back to review.Whether the right decision was made is of no consequence, but the amount of time that was taken was.Smith had to stand their and wait until imcompetant people made a decision. It took some minutes before he was officially given out.
Really is it any wonder he was shaking his head!!!
He has had a fair pounding on social media today and I think wrongly so.
Any others have an opinion?

Yeah I said in a previous post that the third umpire replayed it so many times that there must have been some doubt in his mind. I think there should be a time limit on how long the third umpire has to make a decision (say 1 minute for arguments sake) If he can’t make a definitive call,it goes back to the on field umpire who had already given a soft signal of out anyway.

Good just enough time to “Can you Rock n Roll it for me”!

Finch has now been ruled out with injury which may give Travis Head another opportunity on his home ground. I assume he will open the innings with Warner and perhaps bowl a few spinners. Richardson has been released to play with the Scorchers so the bowling attack would comprise Zampa, Hazlewood, Tye and Cummins ( Starc due for a break) with Marsh, Head and Stoinis to share the 5th bowler role. Interesting that Maxwell has been included in the squad as cover for Finch but it appears that he is unlikely to play.

Maxwell back into the ODI squad…FMD one minute he is told he lacks the necessary training ethic to play for Aust, scores an 80 and back in favour…surely Short should of been rewarded for his consistency? These selectors are so inconsistent and all over the place with their comments it’s mind boggling…quite surprised Mark Waugh hasn’t called up his pet donkey Bully!

Mikeh that bowling attack is gonna get smashed on paper…Richardson before Tye any day… anything over 4 overs and Tye is cannon fodder…0/40 odd off not even 10 overs in both games…Richardson takes a couple in one game and gets demoted?..Lyon over Zampa… can’t afford Zampa to go 6-7 an over as well as Cummins,Starc et al too… in current form Lyon is bowling pretty tight and bats just as well as Zampa…better fielder too…

I honestly think they are experimenting now that the series is gone. They will do very well to stop a whitewash by England. Maybe Australia Day will lift them! I agree that Lyon, Lynn and Short should be playing. If nothing else it would give us an opportunity to have a look at them in a 50 over format.

Travis Head seems to be Australia Day ODI specialist…not sure why Smith is playing TBH in a dead series…had a huge summer needs to be rested to freshen up for SA. Hopefully White fails again and is farked off into Melbourne surburbia oblivion for ever…great start by the fast boys but good fight back by the English lower order…would love to see Short get a hit in the final dead rubber…but no doubt Maxy will play…looks like Warner needs to freshen up too…not sure why he is playing T20 before the SA tour…esp with the likes of Finch, Short and Lynn competing for opening spots…

Your boy Head batted well today Freeze but threw a century away in the end.
Totally agree re Smith & Warner let them freshen up before having to face up to the 5 pace barrage of the Saffas.
And as for White FMD why was that never was brought back at age 35 to show to all of us outside the small minded state of Pricktoria what we already know he is a deadset DUD in International Cricket!
Hopefully all the morons who constantly whine on Pricktorian radio sen will now shut up for good or at least until they can produce an international standard cricketer again!

Gee they made hard work of that. For one fleeting moment there I thought the Poms had a sniff, that was when Stoinis was out with about 50 required. Luckily Paine played just the sort of innings needed and with Head just about got us over the line. This was a classic case of a team that is used to winning vs a team that hopes to win. The Aussies should really have polished off the game quickly after that outstanding new ball spell by Hazelwood and Cummins but Smith failed to go for the jugular, even bowling Head before his recognised spinner. Morgan has totally out captained Smith in this series. He was still putting Australia under pressure with his field placements despite having very few runs to play with.
Our batting was very patchy apart from Head. Warner appears to have lost confidence and is just poking at the ball. White is a waste of space, Smith seems very fatigued, Marsh is still yet to play a ODI innings of substance and is constantly inventing new ways to get out and Stoinis looked restricted with an injury.
I would bring Maxwell into the team for Perth in place of White and bat him at number 3. Or go outside the squad and catapult in form Bancroft into the no 3 spot. Hopefully Jhye Richardson will get a game on Sunday, possibly for Tye. Starc would probably come in too probably at the expense of Zampa, who also is not at his best, maybe because Smith prefers bowling part timers ahead of him.
I would like to think that the Aussies would win the first game at Optus Stadium and make it 3 -2 but I think 4- 1 is more likely.

Out of interest BH or Mikeh or anyone TBH come 2019 WC what team would u like to see Aust fielding…for me Warner, Short, Lynn, Smith, Turner, Carey Stoinis/Marsh Starc Cummins Hazlewood Lyon…with Richardson Kelly Behrendorff as back up pace…TBH I wouldn’t pick Smith but he will go no doubt…Cam Green or Will Sutherland as bolters…

Pretty much agree with your thoughts Freezin although interesting that you havent included Travis Head??
I would also throw Stanlake, Kane Richardson and Agar into the mix. Also don’t write off Zampa. He has not had the best series this summer but I think his record is pretty good. I would also like to see how D’arcy Short goes at international level as sometimes BBL form doesnt translate into this arena.

So hard to pick a team 18 months out but here goes
