ODI series

What a difference a change of format makes. England played really aggressive cricket yesterday and bullied the Australians into submission. Opposite of the test series really. I was very impressed with Jason Roy and the fact that he didn’t throw it away after he got his ton like Finch did. Roy may be at the same stage Warner was at a few years back. Typecast as a one day player but could develop into a decent test performer if he can tighten his technique. Apart from Tye the Aussie bowling was very predictable. Too many 4 balls and not enough change ups of pace etc. I can see England winning this series fairly comfortably

Did anyone else notice the number Joe Root has on his shirt directly below his name? Quite amusing actually.

Didn’t notice it BC. Please tell me it wasn’t 69

No mate…66. Root 66 which I thought was pretty clever.

Yes that is very clever. Think I have been brainwashed by the moron in the McDonald stand who constantly yells out about 69’s.

Eng seem to have a strong short format side…guys ready to tee off from the off in Roy, Bairstow and Buttler, other more traditional scorers in Root, Morgan and Hales…would of loved to have seen Lynn and Short play…two guys like Roy not afraid to go hard early…Lehmann needs to find some bowlers who have ODI smarts… sometimes pure speed ain’t the answer…more often than not with bats they have these days comes off much faster than what it does out of the bowlers hand… surprised Lyon ain’t playing…

Mikeh, Roy is a powerful clean hitter of the ball but he had a massive amount of luck on his side and on most other grounds one of those several miss hit chances would have gone to hand. The “G” is just so big, so much open space and he managed to land them between players. But a great result for the series as it will pull some aussie heads back in knowing they are now clearly the underdog. Also cut the short bowling back, this is a new batch pf batters who aren’t intimidated by the short stuff.

No Broad , no Anderson, maybe speaks volumes.
But remember that test matches the short fast ball is a must, in one day cricket, it is restricted to one an over,They understand that once they get one, they wont get another in that over.
But the Aussie were well out played.
I thought hat when Finch was dismissed the Aussie lost their way a bit with the bat.So many dot balls.Marsh needed to find more holes in the field and turn the strike over more. Also didn’t run hard enough at times either I didn’t think.
Stoinis came in and played well.He and Paine showed them how to find singles and change the strike.

I see Steve Smith wants to replicate Eng batting philosophy…4 guys given the license to go hard whilst Root and Morgan accumulate…for me then Warner Finch Short Smith Lynn MMarsh Stoinis Paine Starc Cummins Hazlewood…eek out overs from Short Marsh and Stonis or drop Finch open with Short or Lynn and bowl Lyon…

Freezin: Roy’s performance was largely a fluke; as usual, they had trouble getting Root, but the rest of Australia’s effort was okay.

Looks like Australia are debuting 2 players today, Carey as wicketkeeper in place of Paine and Jhye Richardson. Good luck to them both. Hopefully we can get rid of jason Roy a bit earlier in the game this time!

Looks another 30-50 runs short again…good cameo from Carey…Head and Smith fail again…gonna be a big ask with Richardson debuting, Tye bowing 6 more overs than he should with all his tricks…Root and Ali bowled well…surely Lyon needs to play at some point…surely Roy can’t go big again…pity Finch couldn’t go on and score big…well bigger

A disappointing batting display. Like the other day in Melbourne, they went through a meandering phase .
They found plenty of fieldsmen, but very few gaps. What has happened to the take a chance of a second run!!! How many times did they put pressure on the Pommies arms in the field.
Hopefully the bowlers can get us out of the mire.

This looks like a 45 over canter for the poms. The Aussie innings never really got going. 2 or 3 early English wickets are the only hope really. Why would you pick a guy like Cameron White who is a specialist batsmen and then bat him at 7?? Muddled thinking there methinks and for the 2nd time in 2 games Mitch Marsh couldnt rotate the strike enough and got out at the wrong time. Carey was the only batsman who looked like breaking the shackles. Credit to England though, they are a well drilled outfit and their spinners were outstanding today.

Don’t you think that in both games so far Mike, the Aussies have allowed their spinners to bowl well.
Both Marsh and Finch should have slowed Root down when bowling his overs. They allowed themselves to be rushed.
It is going to take a huge effort from here for the Aussies to win.

Didnt see the Aussie innings, but it appeared from looking at Cric info that their spinners did bowl a lot of dot balls. I just think the two teams are at very different stages of development at the moment. England are settled and Australia are experimenting with different combinations. Wouldnt be surprised if England win all 5 games to be honest. What a contrast Moeen Ali is from the test series!

There you go Starc has picked up Roy in the first over! A few more and we might be in it.

I have tried to point it out to people in the past, together with BH. The test series would have looked a wee bit different had they had, Hales, Finn, Wood and Stokes.

Getting back to the ODI’s not only are the Aussies not taking on the spin and slow bowlers they are not using any themselves. Is it time to bring in perhaps Gary Lyon and the Big Show?

You’re dead right ark. People (me included) got too carried away with the test result.
As for this game, it’s gone. My God, how sickening is Kevin Pietersen as a commentator.

AR from memory, the Poms didn’t bring Wood here because they didn’t think he could bowl in Australian conditions in a five day test series.
As for Stoke well enough has been said about it.He couldn’t be picked. It is a case of having to do with what you have , not what you should have,or what you haven’t got.
