Nathan Blakley last game v WCE

Nathan plays his last game on Saturday. He has been an honest trier and a good clubman over the years and although he won’t go down in the annals of great Swans ruckman, you could never question his commitment and effort. He has been named at full back for his final game which would be a first!

Plenty of changes made to the team this week with Cotellessa, Harvey, Lynch and Tester rewarded for their reserves efforts. Hard to know whether the 5 outs were injured or dropped because no reserves game on Saturday.

Lets hope the team can put in a better effort for Nathan than they did in Tony Nottes final game last year

Hardest thing in footy seeing stalwarts play their last senior club games

Should he be given a send off game given our current plight? Let’s be honest, he’s not coming in for team balance.

The changes are perculia! Not before time for a couple, others it makes you wonder.

I note Chalcraft only had 6 touches in the 2’s last week and assume he didn’t get through the match?

Jye Chalcraft only played a half last week, not sure he will be back playing League anytime soon.

Unfortunately, you’re not going to make Finals,so Yes,send Doc off with a Win at least.

Don’t go doing le wc any favours, whatever afl numbers they have.

DECLARE WAR ON 'EM AND ACT ON IT!

Who can give 'em the bone crunching tackles, that will have them backpeddling,…RAPIDLY!

Docs retirement got me thinking about Swans ruckmen in general and who are the best big men through the clubs history. Just a quick brainstorm came up with the following names

60s Keith Slater

70s Greg Frost

80s Allan Sidebottom, Ron Boucher, Peter Sartori, Craig Hoyer, Mick Johns

90s Travis Edmonds

2000s Liane Spanderman, Nic Natanui

By no means an exhaustive list and heavily biased to the 80s given it was such a great era for the club

What other names can people think of, Im sure Ive missed quite a few. Fred Castledine was before my time, was he a ruckman?

All omissions other than Rigoni are due to illness or injury. Trew will be missed but good to give an opportunity to someone like Harvey

Bob Beecroft

Garry Sidebottom - who was a hybrid ruck/forward early on

Cyril Litterick was a fine Ruckman and resting Forward Pocket goal kicking Ruckman for Swans in the early sixties. Played for the State as well.

Fiery Fred Castledine played occasionally in the ruck, but I think mostly at Centre Half Back. Also was a State Player.

Both great players in a star studded lineup in those halcyon days.

Thanks for that and welcome to the forum!

Tallen Ames surely mike? Undersized but a great competitor and had a great leap, mark and running game.

Probably Boucher for me. Excited to go to the footy to watch him always some thing different going on. Just his physical pressure. Edmonds was always reliable and gave his all.

Peter Sartori was unbelievable in the 1983-84 Premiership sides and to think he was still a teenager at the time!

Corey Gault for the 2010’s.

Jason Ball was very good in the 90s too.

Honorable mentions to Ken Bell, Jim Buckley, Bob De Graaf, Ron Skender, Wes Lammie, Rory Lobb……

John Rose in the 70’s.

Fantastic start to the match by Swans. Really flew out the blocks in the first quarter. They’ve kicked more score in quarter one than the total from last week. Hopefully they keep the ball rolling, so to speak and notch a win.

No such luck WAG. Same old garbage, just a different week. Wooden spoon the only thing we can win now

You have to be kidding me!!!

Just returned home and had to look at the online score because of no wafl coverage at all with the main stream media. From what i heard earlier in the day, Swans were favoured apparently.

So disappointing…
