Swans wasted numerous opportunities in the 3rd quarter when they were on top and ended up with only 2 fit players on the bench. No excuses though, Swans should have won that game
Guess what the main reason was not hitting a target with handle ball or kicking. Tell me wats with handballing over your head about. Never works for us. Always a fan of Collins but he is off the boil. With a lot of team mates. Another wasted season.
Good luck to Doc, he was certainly not the worst today. A couple of telling stats today was that our handball to kick ratio was a lot higher than that of the Eagles and some of the handballs were very poor and low percentage, especially the ones over the head as Guru pointed out. It seems insane to say it but Swans really missed the clean ball skills and decision making of young Steed who was playing in the under 18s. Hes not going to be playing too many more games for Swans though
We also had 7 more inside 50s in the game. The crucial aspect of this was the 3rd quarter where I’m sure I could read on the coaches whiteboard that it was Swans 13 entries to West Coast 7. Yet Swans could manage only 6 points for the quarter whereas the Eagles managed 3-3. Therein lies the story of the game.
Swans fought it out but were never going to have enough gas in the tank with only 2 fit players on the bench. I had a quick look at the senior list and according to my tally there are now 15 players injured, none of whom are guaranteed to return after the bye. The question has to be asked, why do Swans seem to get so many injuries, year after year??
Speaking of the bye, now that the last nail has finally been banged into the coffin of 2026, the club needs to decide what they are going to try and achieve with the last 8 games. Are they just going to roll along , try and win a few more games and avoid the wooden spoon or are they going to make some hard decisions on players who are either past their best or extremely injury prone and promote more of the younger players who are doing so well in the reserves and give them an extended run?
The club just seems to be stuck in a good old chums mode where there is no accountability from the top down. There needs to be drastic change in the management and coaching for there to be any improvement in 2027, some people have been around for too long and there seems to be an acceptance that near enough is good enough. There has been very little atmosphere at Bassendean this year and supporters are voting with their feet
I absolutely don’t give a rats whether the reserves win a premiership, it means nothing to the supporters. I would rather see the future of the club playing league this year to assess if they are really up to it.
If any AWFUL mob gives you guys SH*T about not playing Leo before the Season’s Out,tell 'em to take a Long walk off a short plank!
Our Players are Our Players in the WAFL!
They DON’T belong to any AWFUL franchisd until Draft DAY!
BEGINNING AND END OF STORY!!!
Mike no doubt Leo is an undoubted young talent, WA 18s Captain and their best against SA yesterday but to solely rely on an 18yo kid to lead and show the way with our League team just shows how poor the leadership is there. Im just waiting for our board to announce another extension for Pruyn taking him through to 2034 in the hope he may one day show he can coach at League level!
Just wonder why Blakely pulled the pin yesterday and not at seasons end? Is my understanding only a handful of matches short of reaching the 150 game mark.
As stated previously, Blakely is heading overseas, presumably in his work as a Doctor. To get that job, again I presume he had to depart immediately as a conditon of employment.
As of yesterday played 126.
Was always going mid June. Told the coach from the get go and with all the carnage injury wise to swans big stocks was made very welcome to continue.
He was quite happy to play either Ressies or League
I was of the understanding he was more than welcome to play again, once he finished his stint overseas, which I assumed was for a year or 2.
Hes 33 so probably not I would say
Didn’t realise he was that age. Wishing him all the best.
Not likely if he’s away for a few years.
127 League games TFAF.
WAG not sure if you have been living under a rock but this has been known for at least 12 months that Doc was heading to Canada mid 2026!
Brad Lynch certainly showed why he should never be dropped anytime soon. He was fired up and showed the class he undoubtably has from the first few minutes..
Mate it was even mentioned in the Christchurh Press about Blakely heading to Canada. Good luck to Blakely and his future endeavors….young Impey looks a good sort for SD BH.
Reading that there were a few incidents that had reports handed out
One pretty ordinary act has been uncovered where a WCE player blew snot at a Swans opponent
That should see at least a 4 game suspension
Wonder if Mr Townsend knows about that?
There was also a CL league player who gave a two arm (both left and right) “middle finger salute” to some boisterous supporters. It was plain to see on the televised coverage on 7+, yet no report. Stan Wright (EP) got a $500 fine for his similar indiscretion! Two tier umpiring?
It seems that way,as I heard Wright reacted to an annoying South fan who wouldn’t stop yapping.
Whereas Hunter seems to have a problem with a Club he turned his back on and said so publicly!
Then he can’t seem to understand the reaction he gets, when he hams it up towards the Supporters that used to cheer him.
An absolutely disgusting act that should be considered as bad as North Melbourne ruckman Xerri wiping blood on another player. I think he got 8 weeks.
