Big Bash XIV- 14

Gee this season can be summed up in a nutshell by this current game.
Complete and utter nonsense, kaos, confusion, poor captaincy, poor bowling, poor shot selection.

Out for BBL 15
Hurst
Jenning
AJ Pie
Kelly
Kiwi spud Allen.

I get the feeling something is not quite right at the WACA this year.
We have dropped our standard across the 3 forms, white ball cricket wise we are a laughing stock at present, last in the 50 & 20 over formats, maybe its a complacency thing, but it needs to be nipped in the bud quick smart by Voges & Harvey with hard calls made!

What an abject performance tonight. At least against the Sixers they fought the game out and it was Steve Smiths masterclass that was the difference. Tonight they had the Thunder under real pressure but like many other games this season they let the opposition off the hook with poor bowling, fielding and tactics. They have coughed up advantageous positions in at least 4 games this year. Turner has had a real shocker as captain which surprised me as I have generally thought that he has good leadership skills. The batting tonight was absolutely appalling and reflected the lack of any cohesive planning. Connelly was the only consistent batsman over the season. The overseas recruits are clearly the worst to ever come to the team.

Even though there are a number of players who have passed their use by date and need to move on, many of the Scorchers issues are attitudinal IMO. We are so used to the Scorchers having that competitive edge and executing the basic skills of the game better than everyone else, it is hard to watch them reduced to a rabble like they have been this year. The same thing has happened this year to the one day WA squad where inexplicable batting collapses and poor bowling has cost them the chance of defending their title. The Shield team also started to fall away in the same manner going into christmas although they still have a chance to reverse the trend when that competition resumes.

Its almost like WA have got too comfortable winning multiple trophies and an air of complacency has crept over the WA set up. Big challenge ahead for Voges to get that fire burning again in all 3 formats,

No one has shown the ability to dig in and score runs in any game (T20, 50 over or shield) clearly a drop in standards or motivation

Gee imagine if the coaching staff were Pricktorians…touch wood it’s just a blip on Voges already impressive coaching CV

Scorchers were once the team to be feared. What’s happened, are they thinking reputation will get them through? I enjoyed Covid more than watching them.
I’ll be the first to admit that I know nothing about cricket tactics, but can anyone give me a reason why Turner took the 3 spinners off when they had reeled their batsmen in? Soon as the quicks came back on, the ball was hit all over the place.

58 it wasnt picked up by the Tv broadcast.
But one of the Abc radio commentators.Sitting. on the boundary during his commentary rotation.
Dont know the blokes name but he has an English accent. He does the Abc Qld,Nsw+Vic games.
He told Stewart Clark that Adam Voges was, asking Turner the same question between innings.Wavimg hands, and raising his voice.

Wow, very interesting. Disunity in the camp over the last 2 or 3 weeks?

58 it was a tactical error by Turner.
He chose to go too his best bowlers.
Without reading the wicket .And how effective the spinners where bowling.

Bad decision has cost the season. To be honest, they weren’t looking like they were going anywhere….finals wise.

Probably in the long term 58, a good decision…because those initially hard decisions to move on Tye, Kelly etc might have just become easier…new blood needed and hopefully of the local kind instead of the over rated imported kind

Unbelievably and undeservedly, the Scorchers are still in with a chance of snatching 4th spot if other results go their way.
What needs to happen is

  1. Renegades to beat Brisbane Heat by a narrow margin
  2. Hobart to beat Melbourne Stars
  3. and of course the Scorchers need to beat Adelaide at Optus tomorrow

The Renegades v Brisbane game is on directly before the Scorchers game so they will know when they start playing whether it is still a live chance.
The Hobart v Stars game is on Sunday.

Would be a real Steven Bradbury situation if all the cards fell their way but very unlikely

Scorchers have resigned Aaron Hardie,Morris ,Richardson + Turner for BBL 15.
Players already on a Scorchers BBL 15 contract are Agar,Hobson,Inglis,AJ Pie.
Thats 8 of the 19 playes required.
Some of the rookies who played recently. Will get elevated to contacts if their not poached.
Could be 11 new players in the BBL 15 squad.

Well amazingly the Scorchers are still alive till the last day. They started poorly tonight but young Beardman and the spinners pulled the innings back under control, then an all round batting effort guided them home. I guess Voges would be wondering where that sort of performance has been all season. We are all Hobart fans tomorrow I guess.

I guess it ain’t over till the fat lady sings…great effort by the Scorchers younger brigade to get them back in the game, and with a smidgen of a chance for playing finals.

Up to the Star’s WA boys in Paris, Cartwright and Stoinis to show where their true allegiance lie, and tank tonight v the Hurricanes. Though if the Pricktorians get through, it would be a stellar comeback from them, after being 0/5 a few weeks back.

Melbourne Renegades, Gades.
Have offered Jason Berendorf and Ashton Agar massive BBL 15 contracts.
Also chasing Matt Renshaw from the Brisbane Heat.
Keeping Rogers and JFM.They will try and build a young list around thoes potential players.

I reckon a few of us on here were hinting to Voges & co what needed to be done…
Get rid of the deadwood like the 2 Pommy imports Jennings & Hurst plus oldstagers Tye (who was done 3 years ago) & Kelly and give some WA based kids a go like Beardman, Fanning, Spoors (plus Curtis, Jackson, Wyllie etc).
Not too mention playing a completely out of form Mitch Marsh for the 1 game when his head was obviously not in the right space to be playing.
Anyways unfortunately it was too late before the necessary & obvious (to some) changes were made, hence they are now relying on the perennial underachieving flops the Melbourne Stars to win a clutch game!!!

They are actually relying on the Stars to continue to be underachieving flops today BH!

The Perth Scorchers have fended off interest from the Melbourne Renegades to re-sign Ashton Agar for the next three BBL seasons. The 31-year-old Agar would have been a free agent had he not signed by tonight, but he is now locked away with the Scorchers for the next three years.

Each BBL club was only allowed to contract a maximum of 10 players before the free agency period began - and the Scorchers have now reached their limit.

The futures of Jason Behrendorff and AJ Tye remain up in the air. The Renegades are in the box seat to poach Behrendorff, while Tye’s future remains unclear after losing his spot in the Scorchers’ preferred XI late this season.

Behrendorff has taken a league-high 17 wickets this season and is widely regarded as one of the BBL’s greatest pace bowlers.
