BBL Opener

Turned out an exciting end to the rain affected game in Tassie.
I reckon the Stars blew it. They should have retired their keeper earlier.
So Strikers and Hurricanes Friday night.

Go the ‘canes!

I didn’t see much of the Hurricanes-Stars game, anchorman, but it was a very interesting decision by the Stars to retire Sam Harper given that he wasn’t getting much of the strike.
When on song (and admittedly innings reduced to 10 overs don’t allow you to get your eye), Harper can certainly give it some tap.
I looked up Harper’s season stats and he scored an unbeaten 110 off just 60 balls against the Sixers at the SCG earlier in this season’s BBL.

Plus Harper was voted BBL player of the tournament…

But still a move that should have been made

What were the others on Strike doing?

Shouldering arms?

:upside_down_face:

I prefer a batsman to hit out and be dismissed in the process rather than what we saw with Sam Harper last night, plus one or two other instances earlier in the tournament, from memory.
This “Retired Out” mode of “dismissal” is something I recall from junior cricket, when Little Johnny, who’s smashing the ball to all corners of the park, is told he has to retire to give his rabbit tailender mates (like me) a bat.
And there was (is) also the old “Retire at 30” rule in social cricket.

I’m with you @Archie_Duda_Goal_Mac he should have hot out and got out. he had 10 from 6 balls so it’s not like he was blocking the ball or playing and missing.

By retiring he allowed Maxwell to score 9 of 4 balls so the difference isn’t that amazingly great

In that context, you are right, but by the same token, Maxi couldn’t get enough strike either.
with such a shortened game due to rain, I would have thought that it would have been better to attempt to get ahead in the game early rather than later.Especiaally with more rain to come.
But an exciting finish

They were pretty much lucky to get on the ground,…..

Yes they were, but they did.Surely it need a far different approach to a innings that was going to go 20 overs.
Isn’t Shippy, Greg Shipperd, their coach!!!

Just reading Babar Azahm has left the country.

Yes, for a game that was going to only go 10 overs maximum surely Stoines and Maxi needed to both bat in the top 3.

Peter Moores is the coach his claim to fame is he also coaches Nottingham i think

Ahhh well, the One that Matters is the Team Award come Sunday.

BBL Champions!

Course,they gotta Win it,of course!

umpires should not vote on anything their job is to interpret rules not decide who were best players

A bit like the Brownlow etc!

The Flipside is,the Media with all their prattle and alleged Favourites, shouldn’t get their paws on the Umpires’ Award either.

There could have been a Dozen Essendon players that had a better Season than Shane Woewoden in 2000.

But I wasn’t surprised in the slightest none of us placed, because of the even spread of good contributors towards the 21 Win Season,in the Home and Away Round that year.

Scorchers fans should worry about the Main Prize and hopefully rejoice in Winning that!

Interesting they are playing on the test wicket.(Centre Wicket)
Hasn’t been used at Optus for a BBL match in BBL15.
Recon 150 will be a good total.
