The point is Old D,that basic fundamental existence of a WAFL club is based on promoting and developing your Juniors,you shouldn’t be going on recruiting sprees when your gifted a dozen plus free AFL players week in week out.

Royallucky Im not referring to you complaining, Im referring to the alignment in general..With regards to them recruiting, I completely agree that they shouldnt be able to recruit as heavily as they have and the players that they have picked up, these are very good players

I fully agree with your comments, Dev, as I heard Greg Harding mention yesterday on 91.3 SportFM that Peel Thunder had nine eastern states recruits on their books, outside of the surplus Dockers’ contingent that comprise the bulk of their line-up.
Notwithstanding that more than half of their team each week are Dockers, who are paid by the Fremantle FC, Greg also mentioned that Peel can pay up to 65% of the regular salary cap.
That’s just as big a travesty as their stacked line-up IMHO, meaning there’s very few opportunities for homegrown Peel players.
Now, I’m not sure what the salary-cap situation was when East Perth was fully aligned to West Coast (I’m glad the “partnership” is long since gone), but following the Royals just wasn’t the same when 50-60% of the team were Weagles.
Regarding your post from last night, Lucky, I agree that it’s vitally important to get games into the likes of Jake Soutar, Tyler Lindberg and Will Cassidy (Aniello Pizzolante also showed he was no slouch against the Eagles).
Hopefully we can also get enough of our key injured players back and sneak into the eight.
Although it seems unlikely, there’s always the chance that Peel will be brought back to the pack by injuries to key Freo personnel and/or key Thunder personnel.
The dream run that we had in 1978 (sorry Perth supporters) may never be repeated, but where there’s life there’s hope.

Home grown AFL Players,like a Kasey Green from the Sharks were still able to play for their original WAFL clubs.
That’s fine.
So why did they even bother then?
Wow,apart from today’s performance the Tigers have shown that Peel can be beaten,surely the Sharp and Omeara withdrawals can’t make them a 10 goal inferior team???

Kudos to EP and their ability to find wins against the odds…..Perth were warm favourites going into this game…..but EP spirit shone brightly like a LED beacon.

Cheers, Freez, I reckon the makeshift scoreboard at Leederville today might’ve come from Wheatbelt town Beacon itself (with apologies to the good folk of Beacon) as, in the first half, it was taking forever to update the score (although the time clock on the scoreboard was working fine).
A very pleasing result from an EP perspective.
I think the line-in-the-sand moment for the Royals was the thumping at the hands of Peel a couple of weeks ago.
However, I thought today would be a real struggle, and it looked that way in the first 10 minutes.
The boys’ second quarter set up the victory, although I fully expected the Demons to come out all guns firing after half-time.
The most pleasing thing for me was that EP had both more possessions and more tackles, which is generally the recipe for a good victory.

The two fellas next to me,had their hands full with the systems gremlins today.
These fellas must’ve eventually “cracked the code”, Grassy, because the scoreboard ended up working a treat (and I’m not referring to the result).
Alas, we now live in a world where we’re at the mercy of the cyber/systems gremlins.

Until now, Grassy, I’d never given a second thought as to who controls the electronic scoreboard, but I now realise that it’s logical that they sit with your good self and your fellow timekeeper(s).

It looked on paper we would struggle today,but what gave me a little bit of heart was the fact that the Eagles,who I thought were unlucky to lose to us last week,comprehensively beat the Sharks last night,even after losing Francou who was their best player.
Hasn’t Lindberg after being dropped a couple of weeks ago,come back and shown what a class act he is,and Milner played his best rebounding defensive game today,and Pizzalante WoW!!! I thought he was a battling reserves player,but he really has added a bit of exuberance and passion to the side,and Jonesy with his 22 possessions has helped fill that class midfield void,but I’ve got to say, just when you think the Demons have finally arrived,they never fail to disappoint and that performance was difficult to fathom especially after convincingly defeating Claremont and the Bulldogs in the previous week’s.
