The PFL A Grade home and away season has come to an end with a few interesting final round games that had a big impact for a few teams.
Ocean Ridge travelled to Scarborough and after a see-sawing 4 quarters, Ridge prevailed taking the 4 points to survive in A Grade for 2027 and sent Scarborough back to B Grade. Scarborough valiant in their efforts with an undermanned team with inaccurate finishing in front of the big sticks being the difference.
The other game of interest was Uni hosting Curtin, the prize for the winner was 3rd spot and the double chance, the loser pushed to 4th and hosting an elimination final v Kingsway. Curtin prevailed in another close match getting up by 8 points.
Fifth placed Kingsway demolished Mt Lawley, who had secured another season in A Grade the previous week, by 94 points.
TAs locked in 6th, hosted minor premiers North Beach who won convincingly over the private school boys by 79 points.
Freo CBC (2nd) did enough against 10th placed Baldivis winning by 39 points.
On to the first week of finals, North Beach earning the week off and two ripper fixtures to be played.
Elimination Final
Uni v Kingsway at UWA Sports Park
Their first encounter was Rd 9 with Kingsway hosting Uni. A really close match across the day, all tied up going into the last quarter. Kingsway kicked 6 goals in the last to Unis 2, winning by 22 points. BT kicking 5 goals for Kingsway the difference.
The return trip to Uni in Rd 17, saw Kingsway prevail again, this time by 23 points. Kingsway far more effective in front of goals kicking 11.5 to Unis 6.12.
This match could go either way but without too much confidence will back Kingsway to do enough to progress through to the first semi final and Uni to start planning their Silly Sunday and Mad Monday.
Qualifying Final
Fremantle CBC v Curtin at Morris Buzacott
Curtin hosted CBC in Rd 9 winning convincingly 15.11 101 to 7.12 54. Curtin jumped out of the blocks, kicking 5 goals to 0 in the first quarter. A fairly even affair through the second and third quarters before Curtin but their foot on the throat in the last keeping CBC goalless again whilst adding 4 of their own. Stewart and Howson unstoppable up forward kicking 5 each.
They last met a fortnight ago in RD 17, with Curtin posting another solid win away at CBC. Curtin lead comfortably at every break up 83 to 35 going into the final term eventually cruising home to win 13.11 to 7.8. CBC unable to stop Howson again with another 4 goals. Hammersley (Curtin) BOG with 31 touches and 2 goals from the mid field.
Second half of the season form against the other Top 5 sides and previous results between these two teams suggests Curtin will have CBC’s measure in this one.
