West Coast Eagles and East Perth Royal Eagles

True but don’t be fooled my old mate mate Mr Bronte Howson is crying in the corner

What will the AFL/WAFL do if G7 clubs start falling over? You can bet they have it all planned and ready to go. The AFL will swoop in and throw money at the comp on the condition it becomes an under 23 comp with an allowance of up to 5 over age players per team, the AFL will take control of the licenses including WCE & FReo and the WAFL will become AFLW (AFL West).IMHO

It is interesting to read here a few saying that they should have allowed the Eagles and Dockers to have their own clubs.Isn’t that what they both wanted!!!Isn’t that what ALL other WAFL clubs objected to? Seems wanted their cake and eat it too. Can’t have it both ways.
The money has been taken, the horse has bolted.
It is going to be an interesting five years that’s for sure.

Hey  that’s Rodentboy … maker of decisions that best suit his own inner desires and power lust … a clever cunning little rat that then says it is a decision that he had to make , bugger everyone else … “Yes Mr Cransberg , I will pull my club’s skirt up and let you have your bastard lovechild”…

I can see 2 more big issues that haven’t been raised as yet.

1 - EP are in the foxtel cup for 2014. What kind of a team will they send I wonder? I guarantee that the WCE players won’t be travelling to the NT or Canberra on a Tuesday night. It will be the EP reserves side that will travel and easily get beaten I’d dare say and not represent the WAFL as well as other clubs have thus far.

2 - Come finals time and WCE are not in them will they allow all EP / WCE players to front up in the WAFL finals?? NO chance. Big issues come September. Even if the WCE get in the AFL finals they won’t want to be risking their next 4-6 fringe players playing in the WAFL on a Sunday. Same goes for Peel.

Problems, problems, problems.

I can see EP being forced to play a very much second string side in the foxtel cup, based on the fact the Eagles wont make their players work that hard on a Tuesday night. It will end up being a flogging for sure.

They should back out of it and allow an up & coming side to compete. Common sense.

West Perth should do very well I think.

What happens when East Perth win a game…do they sing the Eagles’ team song, East Perth’s team song, ABBA’s “money, money, money”, or Carly Simon’s “You’re so vain, you probably think this song’s about you”???

… and all of this because two “blow ins” of what - 20 years or so is it??? think that they know what’s best for a century plus year old State Competition.

All the old rivalries , the tradition , the pride & passion … fark the VFL and what it has done to state leagues

Bronte didnt give a stuff about about the members of the EPFC when he made this call and he has now effectively put the Club on a two strikes. The third wil be fatal, wait for the WCE to join Perth Demons at Lathain or WCE to enter there own gang in the comp The fat lady will sing then on tyhe once proud Royals and i wonder where Mr Howson will be then!

I’m not a fan of the alignment at all. But if you had any idea you would know the reason EP exists today is because of the amount of his own cash Bronte has pumped into the club. Opinions are fine but cheap shots on Internet forums are very low indeed.

I dont consider my comment to be a cheap shot. My issue is that he as President of the Club did not consult this with members first. We are the owners of the club. It is indeed a sad state of affairs if the club only exists because of one man. Needed to be for more clarity for for me.

no denying that. but regardless he had no right to secretly hide the alignment from the east perth people. it was underhanded and a disgrace the way it was achieved. Regardless of his wonderful deeds which are acknowledged, this did not give him or the board a right to not advise us, or do what they did and close up shop and allow nothing to oppose such a significant decision. Absolutely no right.

amazingly now I hear the club is asking for Royals faithful to give them some feedback with a questionare ?? Where was the interest in what we thought when we desperately needed it ?

I shamefully say, what a hypocritical organisation.

I’m in agreement also don’t like the way it was done it I’m quite angry about it. But you must have balance the club is largely afloat due to Bronte, I think that is a given. I choose to support the club no matter what because administrators and players come and go supporters should never turn on their club. I will ride it out and see what happens good or most probably bad but I will never be a turncoat.

I can only watch on with interest, but I understand peoples ties with the blue & black in a sentimental sense. I have my incredible memories of our club, that cant be taken away. My concern now has switched to the overall competition. Hoping it somehow survives with the clubs in tact.

I can only hope in a selfish sense that when WCE move base to Lathlain, they align with Perth. But maybe EP will move base to Lathlain too, that is my concern. But that is 5 years away anyway. It feels like a bloody lifetime.

What will happen will be anyone’s guess as you say. But the drums are beating very loud that some mergers or takeovers are on the agenda soon.

I think you’re on the money here. This disgraceful situation will force mergers. I hate the thought, but there is the chance that it may lift the profile of the WAFL. As much as I hate to say it, if the WAFL survives (and I don’t think the AFL wants it to) then mergers are the way to go.
As I said in another post that disappeared (didn’t insult you Mike or George?), if we have to merge with the busted arse club down the road, at least it will be a real Freo club.

So Shark that means that ALL your players will only come from the Fremantle area?
If that happens then yes you would be a true Fremantle club. But both of us know that wont happen.
Lets face it all clubs other than Subiaco have been up sheeeit creek for a long time. The WAFL was dying as soon as the Eagles entered the VFL/AFL.
It has been coming for many years.
Merging seems like the only way for the WAFL clubs to survive.Either that or ground and facility sharing.Maybe South and East can survive if East move back to Fremantle oval and share everything that is there.
Oh and is your club so flush with money that you can call Souths a busted arse club!!!

We all know that other clubs were interested, but the question remains did they actually knock it back? Someone knows the answer but we will never know.
Did East Perth do the wrong thing? They have come out and said without doing it they can’t see much of a future for East perth which I found hard to believe. And this alignment will not be there forever as we all know. So not sure what they achieve out of it.
If I was an east Perth supporter I would be upset like you are, any success they have under this system will be widely accepted as not East Perth success. For their true supporters they know that deep down and any premiership would be tainted.
I know if West Perth had of done it I would be gone in a second without a thought about it.
For me now, Perth Derby’s have no meaning.
I am not sure how strong East Perth will be? time will tell. The clubs should of let the Eagles have their own side. But like you said hindsight is wonderful and no one was to know that clubs could be bought by the Eagles and Dockers.

GWS East Perth exists now in name only. No East Perth supporter can claim that their club exists. They are nothing more than a puppet for the Eagles. They have no autonomy whatsoever; whatever the Eagles want the Eagles will get.

No A/man. The WAFL clubs wanted their WAFL competition to remain with as much integrity as possible. There is no earthly reason why the Eagles and Dockers want their own reserves’ teams other than to show complete and utter contempt for the WAFl competition, clubs, players, members and supporters.

Did the alignment have any possible impact positively on the Dockers? Conversely, did it have a negative impact on the Eagles?

How does merging keep a club alive a/man? Do you seriously think that Fitzroy exists as an AFL club in 2013?
