WAFC Outrageous Inconsistency

Perth cop a 8 point “suspended” sentence for their breach, coming off the back of SF and EF having their seasons seriously impacted by immediate point loses. Especially given the breaches of both SF and EF were significantly less than that of Perth, all are what have been classified as “admin errors” rather than deliberate attempts to cheat the system.

Boohoo

That sounds like a “sook”to me Bazz.

If you listen to Brad Dodd on Sports Breakfast this morning I think the commission has come around to realising that taking premiership points is a bit severe for unintentional “admin errors”. Been a few changes on the commission maybe brought a different approach.

Brad said it was a complex system with a lot of moving parts. They are going to have to work closely with clubs instead of sneaking up on them and going gotcha.

But the loss of 5 player points is going to hurt our depth. It means we will have to chop 5 players off our list.

He did seem to indicate that 5 one point players would be cut. Maybe they could consider cutting 1 underperforming five point player instead. Anyway we will wait and see.

This has set a precident. How many clubs now can cheat the cap/points and say “ohhhh admin error…sorry”

I think Baz has a point. Given the history of clubs contravening the salary cap, I think it should be a strict liability situation where intention doesn’t come into the equation. Either a club broke the TPP cap or it didn’t and there should be a schedule of penalties depending on the $ value and whether there’s been prior occasions as well.

It might make clubs pay a bit more attention to their finances and how they spend it.

Careful what you wish for BC. Has your club been audited yet? How far should they go back? Fringe benefits??? Undeclared!!!

Mate…during the glory days when we were winning flags, Subi’s accounts were torn to shreds and rightfully so. When the club signed Daniel Chick and Phil Read in the same year, I thought they were having a laugh and fully expected the club to go the high jump.

Thankfully my club is one of the few not to be caught out and fingers crossed it stays that way.

Baz…mate the WAFC were very Kamilla, Paddy C, Ronald McDonald like with that woke decision not to come down hard on PFC…just how society is I guess these days…imagine Perth getting a 3 match penalty on top of their crap zones, regular injuries and Parfitt most probably getting snapped up in the midseason draft in 2025…be a total kick in the goolies for a club and it’s fans already feeling hard done by after 40 + years of hardship

Coming around to the fact that two clubs had their seasons seriously impacted, well a bit late for that isnt it…pretty good case for compensation for those clubs if the WAFC seems to think its not that serious after all.

As BC rightly states, either you breach it or not and the table of penalties apply…the notion of a suspended points penalty was NEVER offered or on the table for SF or EF, and for smaller amounts in almost identical circumstances, missed super etc.

The table is in the rules- SF and EF should’ve been -12. So there’s a discretionary aspect to it

Perth fans won’t have much to moan about being so hard done by after this, talk about being a protected species absolute spoon feed charity cases more like.

Bazza, question for you which clubs cheated for greed or betterment of the group (FTB and equipment for personal use) and which one got penalised for a compassionate act to assist a badly injured player who needed compensation.

Yep - In Souths case it was paying a badly injured player, then some technical BS over a coach who did not have “accreditation”..total was a pathetic 12K.

West Australian Football Commission chief executive Michael Roberts has conceded Perth’s recent poor on-field record impacted on the severity of their penalty for salary cap breaches.

Roberts admitted the Demons’ struggles on field — which includes only one finals appearance since 1997 and a 47-year premiership drought — were factors in their penalty.

“The commission and the WAFL clubs in the past two years have wrapped their arms around Perth to provide them with additional support for them to be competitive,” he said.

“That means they’ve received more player points, more salary cap, more opportunities to bring in interstate players and if premiership points were taken off it would undo all of that work and it would actually impact the competition and the rest of the clubs more than just the individual.

“If you look at it case by case purely on the breach then it doesn’t match up but if you look at holistically the commission believes that the penalty is representative of what the crime is for the Perth Football Club.”

How do you go from breaking the rules and being punished for salary cap breach to suddenly paying big bucks for Parfitt?

well the secret is out - Mr Barich got on his knees and begged for leniency on the grounds of receiving equalisation measures from the WAFC and how severe penalty would nullify those measures in entirety

It is confirmed that Perth already had a previous serious indiscretion (the Chris Bossong matter of deliberate contract overpayment in 2007 or 2008) and were given severe initial sanctions , some of which have been kept.

Perth have been issued a harsh reminder that if there are any further breaches , their WAFL licence is toast - gone.

It doesn’t matter what is said or intimated - Perth have been caught cheating for a second time officially by the WAFC as Herr SS Kommandant Robertswitz has confirmed

End of story move on

Im just happy the 8 wafl clubs are all starting at the same starting line.

Me too JL.
