Cooley is a good player. The only catch is that you need to let him select himself, choose his own position and rotations, and follow whatever game plan he thinks will boost his stats.
Anyone go to the AGM last night?
Ok was there and operating loss was $97,456 which is an improvement from 2023 ($159,055).If you add back depreciation of $92,694 it was virtually break even. A change in fair value of financial assets then adds $296,635 to the bottom line. I am no accountant , but this seems to be going in the right direction.
On the football side of things , Beau Wardman again spoke well and detailed the need to return to the hard edge previously shown by Subi sides. Gains confirmed as Jedd Edwards , Archer May, Jack Cooley, Jarrod Richards (Pines FC) Oliver Dixon ( ovens and Murray league) Nate Tucker , Tony Olango as well as the return of Kyle Stainsby. Losses were Sokol , Dewar, Kitch as well as Drew Rohde and Riley Morgan. He mentioned that injured players from last year were ready to go except Jack Mayo and Greg Clark who were about 85% ready now. Greg Clark continues as captain with Ryan Borchet, Luke Foley and Taj Schofield as vice captains.
Ball legend will be Neil Randall with Ben Sokol, Nigel Hamilton and Peter Capes announced as new life members.
Apologies for the late report but had a few early starts at work this week!
Olongo is the ex WCE rookie that played at EP during the alignment fiasco, on a scale of one to ten as a player he was at best a 3, maybe he has improved.

Cheers Jjim. Upwards revaluation of non-current assets in the balance sheet might look ok. but a $100k loss in the P&L is not great. I’m not sure how we’re losing money as the social premises is jammed packed at every home game and we’re getting pretty decent attendances as well.
According to the annual report, sponsorship is also up so not sure where we’re bleeding money which in the current environment is not sustainable.
Drew Rohde retiring in the off season is a bummer as it would have been nice to acknowledge his services to the club after the last game but his choice I guess.
Thanks Jjim. Shame about Rhode retiring, another hole in an already suspect backline. Good to see Stainsby back but other than that there’s not much to get excited about out of all of that really. Is that the recruiting done now?
Sounded like Rohde had decided to do some travel next year. Looks like Jordan Lockyer is going around again so he could add some stability to the defence. Wardman seemed positive about Archer May’s attitude since being here and at least we now have a big man in Edwards who can compete against the monsters!
He’s probably in his prime now. Looking at a 7, I’d say.
Yes May and Edwards should be good but not sure about the rest including the financials
Time will tell on the recruiting. We only need one or two of those unknowns to step up to be decent league players and a decent run with the injured players from last season ( Braut, Hayden, Lockyer etc) to improve markably. Mood seemed positive at the AGM and I am a glass half full person. Also we will hopefully get one or two of the colts team now training with the seniors to take the next step.
Yes if those blokes can stay fit and firing we will be alot better. Particularly Giro, he was up there with the best in the comp in 23
Agree DG , forgot about Giro as well as the others.
Just about choked on my morning coffee when I saw the headline in this morning West “WAFL Eagles list gun Lion”
Fortunately Mitch Woodcock was reporting that Thomas Edwards -Baldwin has signed with the WCE wafl side. He hasnt played with us since 2020 and after a stint at East Perth has played suburban and country footy. Don’t think even he would describe himself as a gun!
I see we have 3 night games to start the season. Obviously the WAFC is taking advantage of the upgraded lighting to see if there’s support for 6:30 and 7 o’clock starts. Not sure I’m all that keen to be honest but we shall see I guess.
Makes sense in the warm Autumn months BC. Looking forward to playing there on a decent surface. Hopefully they are using roll on turf and not planting seeds. Will be hard as a rock the first couple of seasons. Might have to manage your players.
We start with a succession of 7.10 games. What time will they finish? 9.30? That’s normally my bed time. And I’m one of the younger subi supporters at 58.
I suppose this is the
quid pro quo for the lights, but I wouldn’t be surprised if attendances don’t decline further. That said, they are already rock bottom.
I’m going to miss the Saturday arvo routine. Post game drinks etc. presentation etc. Might have to have a few beers in the members during the game.
Maybe 5pm would be a better start time. We’ll see. Worth a try but I’m predicting some sad last quarters with everyone gone home or out .
I’m with you on this one, I think 1710 would be much better. I travel from a rural area which makes it too late for this old guy. I understand I’d be a complete minority though.
I see Alone is not on our website list now ffs
Not on the WAFL website either DG. Yet if you search by name only, Alone and filter he shows up.

Strange. Cheers DD. I like the look of that WAFL website list mate! Much better looking than the Subi website list but unfortunately I very much doubt we will be seeing much of Martin, Tholstrup, Kentfield, Hansen etc this year
I noticed the big former EP ruckman Edwards and Cooley both missing from our playing list on the club’s website. They didn’t last long and we’ll miss a new ruckman if it’s true. Has anyone heard anything?
