Time to move on from last season so thought I would start a new topic to analyse next year. After looking at our senior list on the club’s website, it looks very young and inexperienced with lots of kids promoted from the colts.
We’ll need a few well established recruits if we’re going to fire a shot next year because if we’re unable to bring in a couple of KPPs, a ruckman and another inside mid, then I can see us down near the bottom of the ladder. I hope I’m wrong but that’s the way it’s looking to me.
Agree BC. I think we need a couple of mids with genuine toe and good delivery almost as much a good ruckman. Other than that we need height in the backline
Hello BC, my respected friend, I heard that you blokes have signed a Ruckman from Glenelg and also an a grade forward from SA. What you probably don’t know is that we are chatting to a fellow who may just jump ship from the mighty Lions. Well, if you move up into the Northern suburbs that freeway is a pain so might as well pull on red and blue jumper. Also, an a grade player.
Winger old son. Nice to hear from you and I hope all is good at your end. Your mob were supposed to have Greg Clark signed, sealed and delivered when he was delisted until you didn’t. I’ll worry about losing an A grader when it happens. A ruckman and a forward sounds terrific. I hope it’s true.
BC we get some mid field toe back with Giro but he may have a slow start after the ACL, Hayden hopefully gets through the pre-season and can have an injury free run, he could be big if he stays fit, the ex Richmond VFL guy helps with the tall forward /ruck and if Winger is correct we may get a proper ruckman, so just need that extra tall KP back. Fingers crossed Locks body will hold up and the younger backs that have had to carry the load, develop sufficiently to have a bigger impact. Guys like Franceschini has pace to burn, needs to step up this year and claim a regular place in the mids and Bartlett must get more consistent as a mid sized forward, he has a massive upside if he can get that consistency and improve is defensive side. Mullane is another who has struggled with injury but when fit is a real asset down back with his intercept marking, as good as Savigni on his day.
Mullane and Savigni played in the backline together for 2 years as juniors at Warwick Greenwood. It was quite the brick wall down there!
They’d complement each other very well if they could stay injury free at the same time and team up again. Fingers crossed they get the chance.
Agree MTW. Funnily enough I was a back man for the Warwick junior footy club myself. Nowhere near as good as those two. Our half backline was myself and the two Fullgrabe senior brothers. Whitfords had no chance.
I’d love to see Mullane get a full run at a season in the league. I really rate him. I think tends to play as a bigger defender than he is, a terrific mark.
I see work has started on the new playing surface and lighting upgrade. I hope there’s no issues with the turf like Shark Park and it’s ready to go for pre-season or at least round 1.
Always looks good at this time of year with virtually no load on it but come the pre-season and seasons start with 2 clubs training and 3 or 4 games every weekend , plus wet weather it deteriorates very quickly due to the clay based subsoil which will be removed and good draining top soil added plus a below ground retic system that will use far less water and be more effective.
A good pick up , at last we have someone with the size to compete with the monsters from the other teams and looks like he wins enough of the hit outs to give our midfield more opportunities. Welcome to the club Jedd!
Great pick up, seems very well respected by the EP faithful but with Jones available would never get a gig. As someone mentioned he performed very well when Jones was injured so he showed he will be more than capable at league level, especially as the #1 ruck. So our recruiters have done most of the hard work with a tall forward/ruck a genuine big ruck but need another tall back, maybe Eaton can fill that void, and we need more pace in the mids. Know little about Cooley, seems to have the skills and physique to make the grade but also sounds like we might need to widen the doorways at leedo so he can get his head through, if he is as some D’s supporters are saying, Subi’s culture will sort him out or show him the door.
Agreed SS. Another KPP would be handy. Kitch’s grunt is a big loss but hopefully we’ll get Giro back to add some pace and Hayden running through the middle off half back or similar to make up for it.
