Squad just released for T20s and ODIs v South Africa next month.
Mitch Owen in both squads so will make his ODI debut - well deserved
Hazlewood back but not Cummins and Starc
Head and Short both return
Aaron Hardie, Cooper Connelly and Fraser McGurk drop out of both squads
Marnus and Carey back in ODI squad
Lance Morris finally gets a look in! ODI squad only
Hardie did a shed load more then Abbott did, yet Abbott at 33 keeps getting picked…really scratching my head at that…we know what he offers…nothing…surely Hardie is the future…is he injured?
He looked fine in the last game Freezin. Bowled his allotment of overs from memory. He has had a few more chances than Morris I guess but thats not saying much
His career has stalled in the last few years. He has had a few injuries but CA have not allowed him to play much shield cricket to stake his claim. I’m hoping he gets a run at it early this season as Australia do need some back up should one or more of the top quartet get injured. I’m hoping also that Jhye Richardson is recovering OK so he can give test cricket another go. He is clearly good enough but is continually let down by his body
I think the fact Hardie can bat is reason alone why he should be in the ODI and T20 squads ahead of Abbott, Hazelwood and the like, his batting in the Caribbean was as effective as his bowling
A relatively east win by the Aussies last night in the first T20.
David smashed the Saffies bowlers with a great 83. Green got among the runs again, but got out just as he was getting away.
Another freak catch from Maxie.
Dwarsuis and Hazlewood picked up three wickets each and Zampa a couple.
Another game tomorrow night.
They were 6 for 75 in the 8th Over Anchor so I wouldnt call it a cakewalk. David basically took the game by the scruff of the neck and pulled the Aussies up to a competitive score. Then South Africa were cruising at 3-120 when in stepped Hazlewood with 2 wickets in an over. Maxies catch was fantastic but catch of the night was the one hander by the spectator with 2 beer cans in one hand and took the catch with the other!
Brevis too good tonight. Brilliant young player. Aussies were sloppy in the field, an off night. The batting in both games has been ordinary apart from David
Never got to see the Saffies bat, but he must be a very promising youngster. What was it, 126 from 56 balls. That is some innings.
The Aussies are really giving their wickets away far too easliy and too early.
Not sure what the plan is, if there is one.
Another injury setback for Lance Morris. He has withdrawn for the ODI series v the South Africans because of back soreness. I am wondering whether he is going to be riddled with injuries like Jhye Richardson has in the past few years. Sort of explains why they are managing him carefully. Aaron Hardie has replaced him in the squad, not really a like for like but good that he gets another opportunity.
Interesting that Riley Meredith took 4 for 9 in the most recent match in the UK 100. Hit and giggle cricket but still pretty impressive and hopefully he gets a run with Australia this season as he has genuine pace
Again the batting was a bit shaky after a good start but Maxwell held it all together. Getting Brevis slowed the Saffers down when it looked like they were heading for 200 again. Good competitive series and the ODI’s should be the same
Just switched onto the ODI V SA, a fella called Sabryan is bowling offies, but is he bowling?
Looks very suss to me.
Also, watching the Saffies after games when shaking hands. What is it with the holding the tip of their caps. Almost like a salute.
Aussies were bamboozled by Marharaj. He was bowling at the stumps and the batsmen kept missing. The pitch was more conducive to spin so they missed a trick by not including Kuenemann. Marsh batted sensibly but the rest were non existent. Head also showed the bowlers up with his 4 wickets. The rest were very ordinary. Poor performance overall
