Probably the biggest story in this post season trade period. Media keeps saying he only wants to go to WC but his manager says they’ve never said that. Fremantle are in the box seat and Geelong will want what Fremantle have to give who will most likely have picks 6 and 7 after Brad Hill is traded to St Kilda for their pick 7.
It looks like he’s just asked to be traded to WCE. I’m not sure how they’re going to satisfy Geelong given they don’t have any high draft picks and how the hell they’ll get him in their salary cap…watch this space I guess.
Would be really interesting to know why he is so set on WCE and why he appears not open to a Dockers move despite the fact that
- He is desperate to come home
- Freo have the better draft picks and flexibility in the salary cap
3 There will be a new coach and CEO at the Dockers in 2020 so a new start really
$ubi are in the mix for him too..

I guess you could draw a parallel in the WAFL, and wonder why a player would request a trade to Subi rather than Swans.
Not everybody is motivated by money though Jack
I think you make a valid if not cheeky point jack. Freo are a shambles with players wanting out, a new untried coach, no CEO…why would you want to go there as opposed to a well run, successful, established club like WCE and that’s coming from a Dockers supporter?
Worth noting reports saying WC is his preferred destination. I reckon we are in the hunt. Game face on Belly. Need to paint a good picture.
Why would any player want to go to Freo.
Basket case.
Always have been always will be.
WCE are good traders they will get it done.

Ok let’s see how many players Fremantle have traded in in the last 3 or 4 years.
- Jesse Hogan
- Rory Lobb
- Reece Conca
- Travis Colyer
- Brandon Matera
- Joel Hamling
- Nathan Wilson
That’s 7 ex pats back in the last 3 years. Harley Bennell before that didn’t work out unfortunately. Are they all no good? You going to try and tell me WC didn’t try to get them ?
Spud will come up with something negative - can’t scroll through a thread with something to do with Fremantle and not work him/herself into a right old lather.
Geelong have upped the price for him. Not looking good for the Eagles - hope they don’t sell the farm.
I think the Eagles brains trust need to be a bit creative about this trade, if it happens it will probably involve picks and player trades between multiple clubs. Kelly will be worth the effort though.
For mine Geelong are the big winners in this and rightly so. They took the risk of picking Kelly up after everyone else had passed him over numerous times and now they’ll get at least 2 first round draft picks for a bargain basement initial investment. Good luck to them and Kelly but WCE and Freo must be feeling pretty dumb right now.
He must be Polly Farmer?
More than 2 first rounders will be hard to do. You would then think Freo would want more than pick 6 for Hill and Essendon would want something similar to what the cats want for Daniher.
What did the top onballer get traded for last year.
Could Kelly end up in the pre season draft and say I’m not playing for anyone other than a wa team as he’s uncontracted, meaning the cats get nothing, would a non wa club pick him up a take a punt on him not playing
I was thinking that he could nominate the draft, but 600 to 800k is a lot of dosh and he may not get back to WA.
He cannot enter the Draft & name his conditions as that is manipulating the Draft. He could be picked up by Gold coast & later on sold BUT at a price worse than now. He could stand out & Freo tank next season for the wooden spoon. That wouldn’t be hard.
The big fish are the last deals to get done then the dominoes fall in a last minute scramble. Rory Lobb and Jessie Hogan deals didn’t get done til late but got to where they wanted this time last year. I feel the same thing will happen here. Tim Kelly and WC will get their wish and Geelong are only using Fremantle as a bargaining chip.
It could actually hurt Fremantle in this trade period because they will want to hold their best cards in case Geelong and WC can’t reach agreement then Fremantle becomes Tim Kelly’s only option to come home. Still, the worst thing that can happen for us is we end up with picks 6 and 7 in the draft and nothing wrong with that.
I don’t disagree DD but having those high draft picks won’t help Freo’s midfield over the next year or two after losing Neale, Langdon and Hill in the space of 12 months. Fyfe is already shouldering most of the responsibility, Munday’s days of having an impact through the middle are coming to an end, Walters is not a true mid more a high half forward and the likes of Brayshaw and co still learning their trade. If they don’t pick up some decent mids in the draft they’ll really struggle to get hold of the pill next year imo.
