State funeral

I watched the State funeral for Dennis Cometti this after noon. It was a great tribute to the great caller. So many highlights in his long and great career.
Well handled by Mark Readings as host.He spoke wonderfully well.
I was even impressed by the ebulient Basil Zempilas. His stories and anecdotes of Dennis was enlightening.
And a legend of the West Perth Football club, Les Fong spoke very well also.
And also a great speech coming from Bruce McAvaney. His speech was very insightful and told of their closeness.
A great tribute to a great caller of the game.

Like Richie, Dennis was an icon of sports commentary. So lucky to have listened to both in their prime, eloquent, insightful, neutral and witty all rolled into one……like Richie, there will never be another Dennis.

Very true Freez.

Awesome and very moving. Pity Cooke had to get involved, not sure of his “connection.

Cometti was perfection…ohhhh how i miss his professionalism. Embarrassing to “try” to listen by ego driven buffoons in the commentary box these days.

Best ive ever ever heard

Commetti was up there with Frank Sparrow and George Grljusich as the best three commentators I’ve listened to

All three could take you to the laces of a football and the changerooms of any football game

There hasn’t been a Victorian I could say anything remotely the same

Not even in the same stratosphere of skill

State Premier. His Government were the instigators of the State service. Surely you would know that Unka. Politics should not count on such occassions.

Yes fitting tribute it was wonderful to the old wafl given priority with West Perth tribute from Les Fong who was great to listen too, followed on by another West Perth bloke in Basil who I thought was the highlight on the occasion his many anecdotes were a great insight into DC as a coach and media mentor, Basil to me was always the protege of DC, finished up with a more low key Bruce Macavaney who was clearly very emotional at the loss of a great work mate and friend.

Yeah I thought Cook was a low light, dont think he would even know what West Perth was..as for the repeasted welcome to country …give it a rest ffs.

Again. If it wasn’t for Roger Ccook the State service would not have happened.

The offer came from he and his/our Government.

I would have thought we were grown up enought to throw politics aside in honour of Dennis Cometti. But obviously I was wrong.
