Steve Smith going to be back in the Baggy Green for the second test against the WIndies in Grenada.
Do either Green or Inglis go out to make way for Smith?
Hopefully there will be a better performance from the batsmen this time.
Maybe a wicket better than the previous one.
they’ll shiv Inglis here for sure
Green is obviously protected even though he’s a very ordinary player
Well there was talk after the first test that Inglis would go, so maybe it will happen.
But I think saying Green is ordinary is a bit unfair.
He is just back from a severe back injury with hardly any time in the middle.
And they are screwing him by playing him oiut of his position, that has now gone to Webster.
Webster is probably the best example Green could watch closely
he’s taken his chance
and delivered on it
Green might be a half decent short format bet
but he’s just not a test player standard
and he’s had more opportunities than some have ever dreamt of mate
I’d keep Inglis in and give him a good run at it
Webster got the education that Green was not given the priveledge of.Time in the SS.
That is the problem with Aussie cricket right now.
Green needs time to find his feet he has been forced when not ready.
and that’s why I’d play Inglis and give him some time
let Green bide his time
They will persist with Kontas as well even though Sharmar Joseph seems to have got into his head
Hopefully Smith puts his senior player/best batsman in the team pants on, and comes in at 3..
Interesting to read Green after 66 FC matches @ 49, needs to go away, and bide his time in the SS like Webster did, to mature, and find his mojo…why not bat Webster at 3 then, he’s apparently ready from what I am reading…
Freez, I am not bagging Green, just making the point that Webster has been playing SS for a long time.Gaining the experience of red ball cricket.
Green and many other have been tag alongs becoming nets bowlers and training with the squad.
I am not sure that that is better than playing SS or not.
Webster has learnt the value of his wicket and worked out mostly, how to struggle through the tough part of an innings. As was the case in the WTC where he battled through to get a good score. And again in the first WI test.
I just think Green would benefit from a stint in the SS.
Senior I know you arent bagging the young fella…Green had a good tour of NZ, batting at 4, beginning to find his feet…then unfortunately got injured, resulting in an extended rehab period…be interesting to see where he bats for WA in Sept/Oct…hopefully not 3…because like Webster is suited at 6…Green looks more comfortable at 4 or 5…
Considering Smith, Head, Carey and Webster are all 31/32 + years old…and folk on here continually bag the team for being a proverbial Dad’s Army…so .how long does Green bide his time for?..till he is 30+?
Looks like Inglis is out and Smith to bat at four.
Staying with Konstas and Green in their first test batting positions.
Inglis will get more opportunities I’m sure
I think so as well.
He is a good player and a bit more experienced than Green and Konstas.
Hey Mike, have to say, it is great to be able to chat with you again.Always enjoyed your posts and comments.
Anchor considering Green has 68 FC match under his belt compared to Inglis’s 60 FC matches, not sure what you mean by Inglis having more experience…but I guess being 4 years older then Green, I see what you are getting at.
Well hopefully in 4 years time when Green is 30 and Inglis is 34, Green will be a more composed and confident cricketer, than what folk think of him now…as for Inglis, well he’ll be right in the radar for all those Aussie fans, bagging the Aussie team for having that Dad’s Army feel.
Huge opportunity by Green missed today to gain some confidence with that stupid waft right on lunch…especially after the soda gimme he offered up a few balls before…the thought processes of some folk, do make one scratch their heads thinking, why on earth play at that?
Webster and Carey establish some sense of respectability to the innings…atleast there were a few more starts this innings…be interested to see how the WI go in their 1st innings…200 looks like 400 for their top 6 at present…like 300 looks like 500 for Aust at present…good to see everyone’s test bowlers get a bit recognition for a change
Freeze good to see my boy Webster come to the rescue yet again of the most inept Australian batting line up I can ever remember.
The Australian Test side of the mid 1980s that was decimated by the retirements of legends (Chappell, Lillee, Marsh) & rebel tourists to South Africa (K.Hughes, Alderman, Hogg etc) are often lampooned as being a poor side but they at least contained some future greats including Border, Boon, Waugh, Jones, McDermott, M.Hughes, Reid etc…
Tell me outside of the veteran bowling group & 36yo Smith who in this current group will ever be remembered as being anything outside a former Australian player?
BH, Webster at 31 definitely delivering at 6…I guess Konstas and Green, will just have to bide their time in the Shield, till they find their Dad’s Army bus pass…both still have time to become an Australian cricketer folk will remember. Remember SWaugh needed 27 tests batting top 6 for Aust before cracking his first ton…one can only hope.
Kontas looked very scratchy but he did at least look to attack, Ussie seems to be a walking LBW at the moment, Green wasted a start but again looked vulnerable, Smith got himself into a tangle, Head got a good ball. Webster is a revelation, I think that Mitch Marshs red ball career is over. Carey goes from strength to strength. Lets see how the Windies bats go against our attack.286 may not be a bad score
I watched until Smith got out, then I retired myself.
But was pleased to see that the Aussies had recovered a bit and look like having compiled a handy score. But disappointed to see that the ones we need to make a big score, yet again failed.
A fait star by Konstas and Uzzie, but neither looked really safe or comfortable. Well I didn’t think so.Konstas is still wafting at balls he should be leaving.Uzzie looks like he feels he has to defend, defend, defend. He is stuck to the crease.
Smith getting out was disappointing. I felt that batting wiith Green may have made Green more comfortable. But sadly, that never worked out.
Carey and Webster are becoming the savours of the batting, along with Head.
Do any think that the long apprentiship that Webster has had, makes him realise how valuable his wicket is!! I feel it is a bit like Hussey and how he handled so many disappointments.
Rain!!! where did that come from. It was clearer than a Perth sky in the middle of summer when I pulled up stumps.
Will the Aussies feel comforatble bowling on the wicket!!!
