I see Schlensog and Paton have been updated from rnd 3 to test. I think we came out of the game on Good Friday unscathed so just about looks like we have a full squad to pick from.
Having said that I wouldn’t be rushing those two back in. Maybe some managed minutes for those two in the magoos. Glass-McCasker is the one I’d be bringing in. Luers would probably be the unlucky one to miss out but Jessie played a lot of VFL footy forward for Carlton.
Hard to make changes off the back of kicking 153 points. However, I think conceding 88 points the other way against a team as poor as WCER was not ideal. I agree I’d give Schlensog and Paton another week at least. Hopefully Gardiner, Moore Hallett, Brayshaw and others will be putting some serious pressure on for spots in the league side. The situation with GM is a strange one. If, as someone suggested, he was left out because we had too many talls, he will be further back in the queue once Schlensog is fit. Unusual that someone would be in the leadership group as a fringe player. I wouldn’t mind seeing him at CHB with Scoble freed up across half back. Once Paton and Schlensog are fit, surely Luers and Bodle make way for them.
Brayshaw has been added to the injury list with a neck injury. 3 weeks. It’s an interesting dilemma we find ourselves in and one we are unfamiliar with, too many talls. Lol
I think we will go in with an unchanged side if no injuries from last week. If GM was left out cause of height I don’t think they will put him in given Souths forward line aren’t overly tall. I think Schelensog and Paton will be put through the ressies if they are ready to play which I don’t think they will be. Our injury list can be deceptive imo. Might be a good crowd with the flag unveiling Saturday.
Bit surprised with some of the selections, especially Watson being dropped. I think Bodle out for Moore is a good move. GM named in the reserves. Gardiner straight into the league team. Cameron named to debut on the back of some modest stats in the reserves. Let’s hope the reserves players put plenty of pressure on for spots - Watson, GM, Hallett, Roberts, Tilbee, Evans and Hill will be keen to keep their names in the selector’s minds.
Perhaps there is a long term strategy here. Does seem Stoney likes to blood some young kids early in the season to see if they are up to it. GM looked to me like he’s put in a good pre season but has had a history of missing a lot of football so maybe just easing him into it.
Gardiner is a big surprise hasn’t played in any pre season scratchies. Looking forward to see what he’s about. Good to see Hilly named in the reserves, I was led to believe round 4 or 5 was the go.
