Perth V Swans @ Lathlain

All of a sudden this becomes a big danger game. Only played Swans a few weeks ago and got over the line by 15 points.

Just about everyone could lift from yesterday’s performance. I reckon all of our young fellas were a bit off (after a fantastic year so far) I refer to McLean, Wills, Hine Baston, Watson, Moore and Catchard. I am very confident here. I don’t think any of these should be dropped on form ~ perhaps one for management of squad though.

I’m also confident Aussie Davis and Regan Clarke will soon get back to their best.

It looks like we will have Paton and A Clarke back and Kemp playing pretty well in the seconds. I also like the suggestion from TN to perhaps play Jacques Tristan as the ruck and free up Schlensog to play forward.

I always like giving players three games in a row to get a full go at it hence I suggest we keep Gray for another two weeks and Moore one more week.

Saying all of the above that would see 4 in so who out?
Derkson, Luers, Bodle (all three pretty similar type players though Derkson more silky) and one of the youngsters.

Who did Gray put the clamps on yesterday? A few of you get seduced by the high numbers he racks up in the seconds but he is never a high posession player in the ones. Swans midfield would be licking their lips if Gray plays.

I think it’s because he never gets an extended period in the league R&B.

ATM we have zero grunt/muscle players. Gray is one of these. Nurture him for a while and see how he goes. He is undoubtedly a good club man - not a sook.

He didn’t look like he was given a specific role. He started on the bench I think. I saw him for a while on Bradshaw.

I reckon he got two unlucky decisions against him. Not as bad as the Taylor 50 that resulted in a goal but not good either.

The coaching staff are going to have to work out a way to help Constable deal with a tag. He has been tagged the last two weeks. Against EF Parfitt stepped up, but he, Byrne and others were all quiet v EP. I’d like to see us do some tagging of our own. While I have defended Gray, I can’t see a role for him unless he tags, or uses his size to clear space for Constable and Parfitt.

Yes, this match a danger game for Perth. They will need to be (pardon the pun) on the ball from the outset. Swan Districts will be no easy push-over. After the disappointing performance by the Perth footy club last week, one would think Swans to go into the match as the favoured team.

Relax the wheels appear to be off down at Shark Park, cannot see Perth missing finals.

much as id love to agree with you WAG, I can’t see Swans getting within 6 goals of Perth. The Demons will rebound, they play much better at Lathlain and they have the incentive of locking up a finals spot if they win. Swans were flattered by the scoreboard on Saturday, Souths fell asleep in the 2nd half but were never under any real threat of losing the game

91.3 WAFL World has just said Scobes has done a Calf an out for a few weeks and the recruit from Swans (Double barrelled name that I forget) has a hammy and unlikely to play this season.

FMD…

So Glass-McCasker has done a hammy while away on holidays? Has to be off the bone if they’ve already declared him out for the season before he’s even arrived.

They worded it unlikely.

Great recruiting coup that has been.

Only a week or two ago we had one player on the injured list. Now it’s 9 plus Scoble and Glass-McCasker yet to be added. We could get Paton and Clarke back this week.

Would like to see Fairbank given a go and Harry if Clarke doesn’t get up.

Star Perth midfielder Charlie Constable is considered by many to be the standout contender to win this year’s Sandover Medal.

Through 14 rounds of the Sullivan Logistics WAFL season, Constable averages more than 33 disposals per game, playing a leading role in Perth’s push to play finals.

But Constable is uncomfortable with any suggestion that he’s a “Sandover certainty”.

“It doesn’t sit with me overly well,” Constable said.

“Personally, I have been really lucky this year that I have been supported by a great team who have let me play to my strengths on game day.

“I am looking forward to continuing to put my best foot forward through the back end of the season and help put some more wins on the board.

“I feel the real focus of our season should be on our young crew as well as the senior players who have stuck by Perth through what has been a tough recent history.

“It would be a real privilege to be a part of a successful era at Perth and seeing what it would mean to players such as Matt Taylor, Corey Byrne and Connor Sing.

“Then there are the members, supporters and sponsors.

The appointment of Mark Stone as coach and the emergence of several talented young players has helped turned the club’s fortunes around, claiming eight wins already this year compared to four in 2024.

“It has been a relatively strong two thirds of the year so far and the most exciting fact that we feel like we are only just scratching the surface of what we are capable of this season,” he said.

“Seeing our young players like Baxter Philip and Elijah Scoble making significant strides and becoming consistent league players for us.

“We are a proud group and make no secret of wanting to be the group who turns the fortunes of this footy club around.

“We look forward to finishing off the year well and hopefully having a strong finals series.”

Then there is the Cats connection, with fellow ex-Geelong players Brandan Parfitt, Sam Simpson and Blake Schlensog joining Constable in the midfield mix.

“Sam, Brandan, Blake and I feel very grateful that we all get to play together again and spend time in the same line group in the midfield,” Constable said.

“We feel like we have a great connection out on the field but more importantly, have a great friendship off the field.

“I think we will see the best of Sam at the back end of this year, and he can be a real match winner for us come late in the year which we are all pumped for.

“Brandan has come in for his first year this year and has made the football club immediately better.

“It is not often you get someone of his ability and personality walk into your club, so I’m looking forward to seeing his continued successes at Perth and what he can do for our club.”

The Demons received a reality check last weekend when they suffered a crushing 80-point loss to East Perth at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

“We were really disappointed in the way we played,” Constable said.

“Unfortunately, we got beaten in all areas of the game and full credit goes to the Royals because they played a really well-rounded game and won the territory and contested game, which goes a long way to winning games of footy.

“Not much went right for us, so we are looking forward to bouncing back and putting in a strong performance against Swans on Saturday.”
