Named as an emergency.
Update: playing ressies so hope you didnt bet on it
Looks like a good start for the reserves. And, Lo and behold, look who the two highest possession-winners are.
Gutsy win considering the carnage. Oscar Hine-Baston out in the first 5 minutes with what looks like a serious ankle injury. Then Brodie McLean early in the the second qtr with what looks like an ACL. Schlensog went into the game not 100% fit but played his role forward kicking 4. Chooka hurt his back no surprise the way he gets treated, played second half as a forward and Regan Clarke had a right arm/shoulder injury at qtr time I think it was saw him with a trainer stretching it out while laying on the ground.
So 22 against 20 for most of the game and 2 or 3 players playing injured. A shame Peel couldn’t hold on would have been handy for us with our percentage we need to be a game clear of 5th spot. Currently 4th a game clear but us and Swans the only two teams that’s played 14 games, the rest 13.
Paton and Clarke should be right to go after the bye and Johnno the same but more likely through the ressies for him. Nice debut by big Tristan Jaques, the dominant ruckman on the ground. Needs someone to teach him how to kick.
I forgot Scoble was also under an injury cloud apparently. Played super.
I - left when Swans got up by two in the last. I could see our finals campaign unravelling and it was killing me. I should be good now as I am very confident neither WP or Peel can catch us. Though I still might get edgy about a home final.
2 of the past 3 games have produced 2 of our best wins in a long time.
Given the injuries to key players which our list really can’t afford.
Then today 2 down on the bench from early in the 2nd quarter.
This group is growing by the game.
Mark Stone again putting his faith in a debutant.
Take a bow Tristan Jaques 42 hit outs and 10 disposals.
Add 18 hit outs to Sclena giving 60 to 31 domination.
Nurture this young man we may have found a diamond in the rough.
Their scragging of Constable and Parfitt was disgracefully ignored
And where they dream up the free kick count from is anybody’s guess.
Very gutsy effort losing Hine-Baston and saldy McLean to what appers to be an ACL. An amazing and honourable effort from Regan Clarke who played a majority of the game with a torn bicep. Add all the players injured Swans really tested us. We’ll done Demons!
So four possibly five return from injury next game (Simpson, A Clarke, Paton, Della and Johnston) and three go onto the injury list. How bad is Regan’s bicep - anyone know. Gee he’s had a tough year. Sounds like McClean and Hine Baston will need a scan before we know.
Yes I was impressed. Perth would have dropped that game in previous seasons given those setbacks. They dug in, fought it out and eventually prevailed.
Your debutant did well in the ruck but without doubt the dominant big man on the ground was Schlensog. He will be very handy come finals time
I’ve been told Simpson might be put on ice to prepare for next year. I’m not sure that’s going to make any difference but the sports scientist guru’s probably know better than me. I think it would be crazy not to play him if he’s feeling good and moving freely, especially come finals time.
Maybe put him on ice until the finals but given the mounting injury count he might be needed before then. I’d say Johnno will come back through the two’s TF. Quartermaines’ numbers in the two’s over the last few weeks can’t be ignored.
Wow torn bicep that’s bad. That explains his wild swinging left arm attempt to knock the ball on instead of taking a mark.
Fraser McInnes tore a bicep in the first game of the season a few years ago and missed at least half of the season.
What position has Q been playing? His numbers have huge. Surely he gets a crack in the 1’s
Good question Sacko. Forward and ruck. I remember the last game against Swans at Bassendean. He was dominant as a forward taking a number of great marks but had a shocker in front of goals. They ended up moving him to full back where he looked good.
There is nothing wrong with his field kicking he just can’t be relied upon in front of goals but he’s getting between 19 and 34 posessions a game so looks like he’s built his cardio.
Leading the goal kicking with 27 from 12 matches, 2nd in marks with 79 and 4th most number of kicks.
I assumed he may have been playing up the ground. Possibly on the wing. Even as an inside mid? Id definitely give him his opportunity now
Turned out to be a masterstroke bringing in Jacques. Good hit out numbers. 10 touches is far from dominant but respectable enough. Importantly, it allowed Schlensog to go forward. Without Clarke and Paton we kicked 7, 8 and 7 goals in the last 3 games. I also think Schlensog forward helped Derksen, who bounced back from some quiet games with 4.
I’d keep Jacques in the side, even when Edwards returns. He and Jacques would be a handful for any opposition. We could have Schlensog at CHF and Clarke at FF, with an option of putting Schlensog back or giving him a run on the ball.
McLean and R Clarke are already on the injury list, out for the season. No mention of Hine-Baston, so hopefully he might get up after the bye. A Clarke, Paton and Johnston are off the list. If we only have to replace 2 players, that can be done by bringing in Clarke and Paton. Johnston will need a run in the reserves. If Hine-Baston does miss, I wouldn’t bring in Q. I agree form in the reserves has to be rewarded, but I can’t see where Q fits in. The only option might be CHF, with Schlensog and Jacques rucking. In that case, we risk being top heavy, especially if conditions are wet.
I agree Ted.
When I heard Jaques had been selected I liked the idea for the reasons you suggested.
I like the way our lesser lights are being given opportunities.
In Jaques, we may have found a diamond in the rough.
I think he has a future.
Nearly choked when the 91.3 team said that Jacques ended up at Perth on a recommendation from Harry Taylor to Brad Dodd. Guess we had plenty of tall timber
KC he showed a lot of promise yesterday.
I take it he is a prospect?
We don’t have a lot of 201cm man mountains.
Regan Clarke listed as chest on the injury list, that would be a torn pectoral muscle by the sounds of it. Same injury Fraser McInnes suffered a few years ago.
Big blows to lose two of our best this late in the season the other being first year player McLean who has been outstanding for a first year league player straight out of colts. Sadly he will probably miss next year as well. Fingers crossed Hine-Bastons’ ankle isn’t too serious.
