Most memorable match

Maybe others can relate their most memorable match that their side has been involved in.
Mine goes back over 20 years when East Perth and East Fremantle were playing at PERTH OVAL.
East Perth were leading at every break in fact they increased it. At 3 quarter time they were over 7 goals in
front. East Fremantle kicked a couple of goals to reduce the margin slightly before East Perth kicked one,
I thought at this stage that the game was over but East Fremantle kept coming, at one stage the scores were equal until Jeff Morris soccered the ball and scored a point which was the final score
t

West Perth v East Freo at Subi, 1985. Menaglio’s 150th, East Freo had won 11 or so straight, West Perth bringing some hope to us long suffering supporters. Kick after the siren for Mainwaring to win it, some beautiful work on the mark by John Duckworth to creep up about 15 metres, Mainwaring misses, great win Cardies. We were a big chance that year if we got a shot at East Freo, unfortunately were never going to be able to match it with Subi, ultimately limped into the finals and got belted by Swans.

86 maybe, Leederville v Claremont, late in the game West Perth roughly 40 points down. George Michalczyk poleaxed by Owen at the Tech school end. George stretchered off, West Perth turn it on for the next 12 minutes or so and come away with the win.

Vaguely recall some epic encounters against Swans at Subi oval, one when so called tough man Boucher took to Michalczyk, wasn’t so keen when Ben Jager had a crack at him

Outside of all our GF wins.
1900s-
1980 SD vs WP at Leederville Oval came back from the dead to win on the siren
Early 80s SD vs EP at Perth Oval down by 5 or 6 goals at 3 qtr time on a packed in Monday holiday got up and won
1986 SD vs EP at Perth Oval down by 10 goals at half time and got up and won Rd 1

2000s-
2008 Prelim Final SD vs WP at Joondalup 8 goals down at one stage we got up to win (*twice)

1996 grand final, the game, the fights, Laine Spencer and Chris Gerryn going at it all day, the last mark of the day by spencer when all the EP players thought he would punch like he had all day and then the camaraderie after the final siren, everyone knew they had seen or been part of a truly great game! Worse thing for me was Laine is my nephew and he was supposed to play for EP but his dad decided Claremont was better for him, if he had been at EP he would have been drafted

Mine goes back to 1978…Perth Oval…Maylands Primary beating East Maylands in the East Perth primary School district carnival Grand Final…Richard Dennis and David Bain feeding a hungry little fella wearing the number 2 jumper in the goal square for 5 easy goals…stuff of legends…only 5 kicks he got that day that under ager…sadly that was the end of his career… definitely memorable for this poster atleast…LOL

The Swan View vs Mt Lawley clash at Basso a few years later was far more memorable Freeze! :cheer:

LOL… certainly got a bath from Andy Holmes that day…but that pales in comparison to the 15 goals Craig Starcevich kicked on me from CHF in the pouring rain in the early 80’s…like I said mate after 78 my career went definitely south!

Like Freeze the East Perth zone.1982 Grand Final at Perth Oval.Morley Police Boys beat ST Marks College.Who had not lost a game all season and had 175% percentage. Craig Starksavitch 1990 Collingwood Premiership player and a few others that made it to East Perth, all grades. Huge win and upset.

Two Derbies stand out for me.One at the cracked aquarium and the other at the home of football in WAS, Fremantle oval. Both games basically last kick games.I can’t remember the years, but both crackers.
The game at the Aquarium was when Charlie Carter kicked that 80 metre(it had to be that far at least, maybe longer:whistle:  ) point to give us victory. The greatest point ever kicked in WAFL history.
The other game was a foundation day derby when Brian Peake kicked a goal on the siren to give the Old East a seven point win(I think it was seven)
Have seen some great Derbies over time, but those two stand out.

For anyone with maroon blood running through their veins, there can only be 1 - Subi Oval, September 29, 1973.

:cheer:

Duckworth was the offending player with regard to the free kick that gave Mainwaring the shot on goal. It was a clothesline not out of place in the WWF. The umpiring too was also out of the wrestling. West Perth players were allowed to wander across the mark without risk of penalty and as the umpire had his back turned stole quite a few metres. Don’t know who the umpire was but he certainly showed his colours that day.

Don’t have many over the past 4 decades but the one that stands out for me was round 18 1988 Leederville Oval Perth vs West Perth.
This oval is not a happy hunting ground for any Perth team and when Rob Wiley(captain Coach)team fell 43 points down at quarter time it looked like another Leederville Oval thrashing was on the cards.
Things didn’t get much better at half time Perth still 38 points down.
3rd quarter saw the home team bang on the first 2 goals to lead by a massive 51 points.
From that point on Perth kicked 16 goals to WP 2 the Demons getting up by 42 points slamming on 9 last quarter goals to finish 19-14. To WP 13.8.
A great win at a bogey oval for the Demons.

Remember that game.Did a big West Perth ruckman called Rodjers take the mark.In all the Kaos.He was about 7 foot tall

The first quarter of the 1984 Grand Final was the closest thing to football heaven that I have experienced as a Swans supporter. You always dream about your team kicking 10 goals to nothing in a Grand Final but the fact that it actually happened made it my most memorable moment. Credit to EF for coming back and making a game of it after that as well. I’m sure that would have helped them 12 months later.

That would have been Kim Rogers mate which im pretty sure is Matt’s old man.

That was a memorable match. I will never forget sitting at home listening to the match on the radio completely stunned at quarter time. I was 10 years old at the time and had not even known of a side scoring 10 goals in a quarter - it seemed inconceivable to be happening at that moment in a GF of all matches. Quite incredibly East Freo responded with 9 goals 5 to 1.1 in the 2nd.

I can’t confirm if it is true or not but i once heard that Toddy had told his players at 3 quarter time that they had blown it and the young Sharks having had a weeks rest and use of the breeze would over run them in the last.

Yeah mate they are from the Tammin-Cunderdin area.

Very good ruckman for us, only had a couple of seasons though, back problems if i recall correctly

2013, Grand Final- WP VS EP @Subiaco
This automatically comes to mind after ending the drought between premierships & belting the flogs from loton park in the process.

I also recall the draw the year before on foundation day and the day when east perth couldnt kick a major.
