List changes for 2026

Coen Livingstone has landed back on our list. Been allocated No 14 straight up which may indicate he’s committed himself to the club. Will have to wait and see I guess.

Was outstanding as a colt. I see him as forward ruck rather than the other way around. We are building a bit of depth in this area if he has committed.

If Coen has committed that is good news.
He is still very young.
Coming back to play with his mates, that he made a Grand Final with.
Bugger, we should have won that game.

At last, our list has some depth in talls.

What I noticed is Coen managed to play every game in his 2 years on the Eagles list in the WAFL. Maybe 2 years on an AFL list has built a bit of resilience in his body. At 20 years of age and 200cm he’s got a lot of upside but he will be starting a long way back in the queue.

I don’t see him displacing Edwards or Jaques and with Clarke, Schlenga, Derksen and Chappy up forward it’s hard to find a spot for him.

Agreed. I would learn him up at Full Back to free up Scobes. I guess he would be in the Preston Coates bracket.

Fairbank off our list.

We haven’t lost any of our key players, which is the important thing. But I an a bit concerned at how much experience we have lost from local fringe players. Everyone calls them “list cloggers”, but you need some seasoned players in the reserves to support all the young guys coming through. If the reserves are comprised almost entirely of 18-20 year olds, they are in for some beltings. Archer Gardner from Werribee has landed on the list.

TFAF, Livingstone is not mobile enough for FB. When you say “free up Scoble”, what do you have in mind? Like a Sinclair role, often playing as a spare across half back where he can read the play and intercept? Or trial him as a tall winger? That might work but, if so, I’d look at Johnston and GM as the two key backs, not Coen.

Not sure Livingstone makes Perth better.

I think you’ll find the Reserves squads are getting younger and younger- when EF won the flag in the Reserves in 2024- half the team were teenagers. It’s making sure the programs around them are strong- and from a far the Reserves and Colts have been solid for Perth the last 3 years.

There’s whispers around of another ex-AFL player coming to WA for Vic- everyone after him but Perth in the box seat apparently.

I agree Ted, Livingstone not a FB. He will be a handy back up but will need to work hard to become our number 1 ruckman, but he is still young. I would rather have him than not. KC if as you say everyone wants him it sounds like he can play. And of course, PFC are in the box seat. Everyone want to come and play for us for free. lol Not sure we have the room for another but I’ll take him if we have. Not sure Doddy is going to make mistakes like pervious FMs.

This Gardiner chap looks very promising, another big midfielder. Having depth in the ruck is something very foreign to us zone paupers. Keep up the good work Doddy.

Anyone heard anything on the Lathlain redevelopment? That mole at the TOVP still holding things up?

The Redevelopment question pushed out till December (this from the council meeting in September) Council wanted clarification of a heap of points and needed three months to think about it.

I can’t say what I really want to say. It might be taken literally.

I can’t see Ben Clarke on the team list anymore. Regan’s Brother.

Gardiner has a twin. Plays on a wing and in the midfield from what I read on the Werribee website. Has been playing senior footy since he was 16 so he should know what it’s about even though he’s still young.

TFAT, Regan may have to lift his game to a new level.
I think Gardiner could be a good pick up.
The fact that the Football Dept is recruiting good young players is a very good strategy IMHO.

I agree with what you say about Regan Clarke, DF. I think he is in our best 22, but he hasn’t come along as I’d hoped. When he first started in 2020, I thought he had the capacity to be one of the league’s premier mids. However, he doesn’t get enough of the footy often enough. Occasionally he will have a 25-30 possession game, but too often he gets around 15 touches and doesn’t impact enough. That said, if he’s fit next year, we have some midfield depth: Constable, Parfitt, Byrne, Wills, Cachard, Davis, Kirk, Watson, and hopefully Cherry-Bayles, Moore, Gardiner and Brayshaw pushing for a spot.

Regan has been very unlucky with injuries in his league career. Not sure he’s ever had a season not interrupted by a significant injury. This year I think he started the season on the sidelines then when in form sustained a nasty pec injury that ended his season.

Fingers crossed 2026 is his turn for a bit of luck.

I see Charlie Thompson is still on our WAFL list. I think he had a year off in 2025 due to groin injury. I wonder if the club has been in touch with him.

Looks like Thompson suited up 20 times for Wangaratta Rovers in the Ovens & Murray comp this year R&B.

Not sure revisiting Charlie Thompson is on the radar.
Ted, I think Kirk and Gardiner might make it tough for Regan.
That’s why I made the comment.
I think our Football Department’s strategy of targeting talented kids is the right one.
Hopefully we can start keeping some of these recruits for longer than 1 or 2 years.
For me, that’s the value of these talented youngsters. Long term.
