Langer having an impact already?

What a pleasure it was to watch the end of the Ryobi cup game yesterday and see the Warriors smash NSW for the first time in a one dayer at the SCG for 17 years!
The team played with a commitment and determination rarely seen from them in the last decade and pleasingly much of the work was done by the young guys that Langer has introduced. Firstly there was an excellent innings from Sam Whiteman, who forged two important partnerships with Davis and Voges to lay the foundations for a big score. Whiteman also looked pretty tidy behind the stumps. Then there was a cameo from Hilton Cartwright. Short innings but what was needed at the time.

When we bowled, there was a very impressive first up performance by Joel Paris who swung the ball and tied Watson up in knots before getting him out. Ashton Agar was the highlight for me. Despite being hit for 11 in his first over, he kept throwing the ball up and giving it a chance to spin and was rewarded.

What a great day. I know it is only one small step and I suspect there may be a few more floggings to come before they truly turn the corner, but there was an energy about that team yesterday that indicates to me that Langer has got them on the right track. For the first time in ages I am feeling more positive about the future of WA cricket

I’m not sure that Langer could live with some of the front runners the Warriors have had playing for them for years.

Some of the first gamers looked great . I particularly enjoyed watching Agar bowl.

6 foot five left arm orthodox.

I would love keeping to him.

Nurture him he will be good.

I really enjoyed watching the game,Warriors were awesome.
Justin Langer giving the young fellas a go is a highlight for me,Agar,Whiteman,Paris and Cartwright whom i think has a lot of potentail.
Heard Hussey may stay on next year, his experience and class will be invaluable.Voges has been great as well.
Well done Justin, you have the team showing some spirit, wanting to win.

Brett Dorey would never have got a game under Langer…front runner of the highest order

Good post mike ..& no coincidence that North was dropped from that side as well ..just stick with the kids for the rest of the summer JL.

I am with you BH on that score.

I have to agree with all of the above. Especially after today’s game. Agar…where did he come from and where has he been??? I’ve never heard of him before. I’ve said it before, Behrendorf is a Bruce Reid in the making. Marsh and Voges have certainly silenced their knockers…brilliant innings today. Pity they didn’t win a couple earlier games, because they must be the form team atm. Even Mark Waugh had some nice things to say about them :woohoo:

not sure why Marsh was coming in at 5 though…he aint gonna win national selection in that position…coming off 155 and full of confidence, don’t understand why Langer had him cool his heels at 5 today…yeah true they weren’t cooling for long, but Marsh is either an opener or a number 3…put Hussey at 5 to mop up the predictable WA batting collapse…oh well that Ryobi cup win was short lived…

fingers crossed Couter-Nile and Agar can limit QLD 1st innings lead to under 100…

Long Long way to go it serms!!

The Warriors have left the Bulls over 400 to get.I think one day to go.
Maybe an outright win coming up.

looks like Beer will have his work cut out getting his spot with Agar taking wickets and making runs…still reckon Marsh needs to bat in the top 3…don’t know why Huss is batting 3, how many years has he got left?..surely having him between two youngsters in the middle order guiding them would be better value…

Agar has come from nowhere and is very promising. Interesting to see how he goes when batsmen start studying his bowling, because he is probably a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment. I agree Marsh should be batting at 3. I reckon he is pretty close to a recall to the test squad and may well go to England as the extra batsman I reckon, he is all class. Fingers crossed for an outright tommorrow

I saw on Fox last night where Agars has been included in the Aussie side to tour India and play some one day games. He is going on tour as an education to improve his bowling.

Great win today Warriors, especially after where we were after day one. A lot of JL in that .

time to pad up Justin…4 / 28…hopefully Hussey thinks he’s batting for Australia today and not just WA!!..good to see Agar take another 3 wickets…still reckon he would of been better value than Maxwell or Doherty in India…quite surprised Turner didn’t get a gig, especially afterhis 50 odd the other night…not too sure how long Davis will get a game for…last seasons runs for the fella seem like a life time ago!!

6/54 is there no end to the patheticness, is there no one who can put their head down and protect their wicket.Sadly as I logged into CRICINFO I said to myself 6/70, not even that much progress

The ball seams the slightest bit off the wicket these days and batsmen crap themselves. They’re been overindulged playing on roads all the time and don’t have the aptitude or concentration to play the moving ball. It’s bloody pathetic.

I think Huss is too busy thinking about his ashes commentary contract. I really do think the great man needs to be honest and tell Langer, a bridge to far mate. Understand you need some experience to gel the kids, but like North, if Huss keeps making no runs, isn’t better to play a youngster who will be around in 1 - 2 years time?..though I do think Langer needs to use his contacts and recruit a mature batsman from ES..not too sure who though?..Rogers perhaps?

How bloody ridiculous…a handful of runs or a couple of wickets to finish the WA/Tas game and they call it off till tomorrow. Heavens, do any of these decision makers have an ounce of common sense between them???

Great to see Marsh,Whiteman and Agar stand up and nearly get WA over the line. Invers needs to get Agar back on a plane to India…yeah strange decision to leave the game overnight 58…either way the game could be over within 2 overs…pointless exercise TBH.

Can anyone tell me if Cockley(I know ex NSW) is ot in out quick, or just fast medium? I know the fella was stuck in a long queue at NSW behind the likes of Lee, Clark, Copeland, Bollinger, Starc etc in his time at NSW, but consdiering he coughed up 90 runs in that recent 1 day loss his performance in this game has been impressive…as has Duffields too.

Not too many sides have won a game after scoring such a poor first innings score in a while memeory…good to see some of the youngsters show some fight, Huss started it off too, kudos to you mate…but Marsh, Whiteman and Agar have done well against a more experienced Tassie attack…good to see some light at the end of the tunnel, only need to find some top 3 batters now!!
