Another great article about the WAFL by JT. I can’t see why WAFL people don’t love him.
At least we have two gates open to get access to the ground. Fremantle Oval is a disgrace. There’s a gate right alongside the road at the back opposite the prison but the lazy South Fremantle football officials don’t want to spend a penny to man the gate. Contributing to the lowering of WAFL standards.
Also when I snuck in to watch the last qtr and a half between Swans and EF last weekend at Basso, you have to queue up in single file to get out at the Old Perth Road end. FFS open all the turnstiles.
For the record, 3831 was the official crowd at the Anzac Day game. Appeared about Thursday.
For Foundation Day games when we get very good crowds you’d think they’d open up the prison gate end…but nope they just can’t be bothered…disgraceful!!!
I went out those gates at Basso as well DD and thought what the hell was going on with the crowd forming. Basso does it best with their can bar, crowds, entertainment etc but for everyone trying to get out through one side of the turnstiles was bewildering to say the least.
Talking foundation day derby, EF Oval ( in its old format) was a joke a few years back they has a line going back to marmion street with one turn style working, ended up having to open the exit gate and just let everyone in 15 minutes into the first 1/4 with the president standing there with a plastic bucket saying chuck the cash in…

Rock I think there was 3 or 4 turnstiles there but you would think they have a gate where people in wheelchairs, gophers, prams etc can get through and they would open that at least.
Pre Eagles days when crowds were much bigger Lathlain had large double gates around the back of the cyclone perimeter fence they opened at the Roberts road end for crowds to go flooding out of the ground.
I understand lack of man power but maybe it’s something the WAFC need to look at and to provide a better experience for patrons if that’s who they are trying to attract to the footy. Getting in and getting out is a part of the experience.

Won’t have trouble getting in or out of Belgravia Park when the beatles and the yellow sand disappears. Wonder if Mark Stewart will be walking around with a bucket saying can you please chuck some cash in here?
I understand the FCC has deemed the prison end gates not fit for purpose - and traffic is not wanted up near that way unless it’s for visitation or foot traffic only
The Gerovich gates will be a showpiece soon not all that sure the members gate will still be there but I believe there is a push for that
it’s good that outsiders hate the ground coz we love it and we sincerely really do hope you do get a dose of piles from your visit and find it most distressing
The Gerovich Gates as part of the new development?

Originally we had three entry points.
The Gates near the Church , the historic red brike gates ( sadly demolished ) near the Warders Quarters and then the Prison Gates which for a long time were pretty handy , they were in use up until recently not sure about issue.
Gerovich gates will be there - the statue is a bit of an icon
the members & Gero gates will do for home and away games
it would be the big finals where that extra gate is needed

There is also the gate at the Swans Members entrance that most attendees use.
It also is wheelchair accessible.

Baz, try watching the video in the YouTube link below…be aware though this may hurt
This was definitely the game…go to 4:48 minutes in.
Im not talking about 2009 Im talking about a few years ago, way smaller crowd and the gates could not cope.
