Have Freo found their Mojo?

Ok Sydney aren’t going that well but anytime you beat Sydney in Sydney, especially when they are desperate for a win it’s a good win away from home. Brayshaw seems to have rediscovered his best form, apparently he was carrying a knee injury earlier.

Sean Darcy is probably the best ruckman in the comp right now and Fremantle seem to have found the right combination up forward with 3 big marking tall forwards beautifully complimented by Schultz, Walters, Freddy and Switowski. The 3 big boys each played possibly the perfect game to stretch the defence. In particular I thought Josh Treacy played his best game at AFL level and Action Jackson is finally showing why Fremantle paid a heavy price to get him.

Jye Amiss is all class and showing why Fremantle took him with their first pick in the 2021 draft. As long as the defence can contain Jeremy Cameron and Hawkins I can’t see any reason why Fremantle can’t win this and continue to climb up the ladder.

I think we will find out a lot on Saturday night DD. If they can beat the cats I reckon they will be a genuine chance as their draw is not too bad later in the season
Jackson has been improving steadily in the last few weeks and has made the forward line look a lot more potent with Amiss and Tracey also providing alternative targets with the smaller guys crumbing. Fyfe will also be very handy rotating through the midfield and forward line. Can’t remember the last time they scored 100+ points two weeks running.
Certainly looking a lot brighter than a few weeks ago.

True mike about Fyfe, I think it’s given the team a lift even as a sub. Midfield is where he needs to be, if he floats forward and kicks a couple that’s a bonus. Yep Geelong can make or break us.

Good win by Freo. Cats missing a couple but they still had quality on the park so it was a pretty impressive effort. I think Longmuir has got the right mix of talls in the forward line and they’re starting to put it together especially when Jackson drops in there…very hard to match up on. The mids are getting better and Fyfe adds some grunt. The next couple of weeks will be telling.

Well like many I had just about written Freo off, but after last nights effort, they have shown they are right in the mix for finals, maybe not top 4 though. Darcy is having an exceptional season as are Brayshaw, Serong and Jackson is starting to show what he can do, such an agile big man and finally starting to hold his marks. They are playing a free flowing style and taking risks which is great to see. While Geelong are not quite the team of last year, they still sit in the best 8 teams under the Pies, Power, lions and Doggies who are my tip for the top 4.

I reckon Fremantle have got their best 22 on the park right now. I can’t think of anyone not in there who could take anyone’s place. Erasmus acquitted himself well while Johnson served his two week suspension.

Importantly Amiss has two other big gorillas up forward so he doesn’t take the oppositions biggest defender and get double teamed, although he did find himself 1 v 2 and took a clean mark under pressure but thanks to a perfect kick by Freddy. Things are looking up. Melbourne will be a big test next week at the G coming off a loss. Could be a season defining win or loss.

Certainly looked a lot more like the 2022 Dockers model, taking the game on and the pressure on the opposition ball carriers has returned. Impressive performance even though Geelong had a few out.
Their slow start to the year means that top 4 is looking a bit unlikely but top 6 and a home final is still a realistic goal. Their remaining 12 matches are
Melbourne (A)
Richmond(H)
GWS (A)
Essendon (H)
WB (A)
Carlton(H)
Collingwood (A)
Sydney (H)
Geelong (A)
Brisbane (H)
Eagles (A)
Port Adelaide (H)
It is a reasonably tough draw as they don’t have any games against Hawthorn Gold Coast or the Kangaroos
They should be able to win all the home games up to the Brisbane one and they will need to pinch a couple of away fixtures as well apart from the Derby.
I reckon they would need to win at least 7 of their last 12 just to sneak into the 8.

Probably Chapman would be in the team if fit DD?

Had forgotten about Heath Chapman, been out for a while. Who’s spot would he take mike? I like Brandon Walker for his pace which is an asset in the modern game. In fact I think we might be the quickest team in the AFL when you consider the likes of fast Freddy, Switkowski, Jye Clark and Lachie Shultz is no slouch in the pace department.

Ethan Hughes is playing an important role and playing well and O’Driscoll is good overhead like Hughes, hard running and a pretty lethal left boot. Banfield is also proving to be worthy of being in the best 22.

And that’s a pretty tough run home, no easy games bar the depleted Eagles which ironically we struggled to get hold of when they were down to 17 fit players.

Never ever heard the name Walyup used once for Fremantle by anyone.

The only culture I support is an honest working culture. Not one that feels entitled to live off the taxes of hard working Australians.

Pants pulled down by Richmond at home. They were hungrier when it counted. Our lads get a bit ahead of themselves sometimes. Tough game to win next up against a WB coming off a loss at Marvel. How far away is Sean Darcy?

I agree with Dermot Brereton, Sean Darcy is our most influential player.. Don’t listen to these cockheads that say you can’t afford to carry two ruckman in the same side. If they got the ability of Darcy and Jackson around the ground then bloody oath you can.

Yes you can afford to play them both in the same side DD, the queston is can you afford to PAY both of them in the same side? Darcy out of contract end of next season and will command a significant pay rise on his current trajectory. Which means Fremantle will have a large chunk of salary cap tied up in ruckmen which generally goes against the grain of normal list management.

I think there is plenty of space there mate. Fyfe and Walters would have taken big cuts in their latest contracts and Mundy, Logue, Lobb and Acres have gone. Brayshaw, Serong and Amiss will be in line for big pay rises.

These are the sorts of games that the Dockers will look back on at the end of the year if they don’t make finals. They shouldn’t be losing games at home against teams outside the 8. They dropped that game to North Melbourne as well and those 8 points may well be the difference.

Darcy is not worth $1m a season.

From what I’ve seen regularly…Hughes & Henry are not up to it.

Why is Erasmus not be getting a game???

When Chapman comes back from injury…I’d move Walker onto the wing. Has pace and will suit his style of play.

Lets hope we can regroup as we have a tough road ahead to make finals.

Ouch!! Didn’t see that one coming. Going to be very hard to pick up the pieces and put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Rock I’d say the importance of Sean Darcy is bloody obvious, he is our most important player and our most overrated is the skipper. How the fuck Joel Hamling can’t get a game is beyond me.

They have slipped again into the cautious, risk free type of style that they were using early in the season. Darcys absence is obviously significant but the only way they can win games is to take the game on and use their speed and run

All or nothing game for Freo v the Blues, win and they stay in the race, lose and the seasons pretty much done which would be a massive failure for a team and a coach that expected top 4. Depends on which Carlton team shows up, so inconsistent but can beat anyone if they are on, can say the same for Freo I guess.

Yes Freo and Carlton have been the two biggest disappointments for their supporters this year. This one is an elimination final in July
