Fix PFC Zone

Thanks bud. I do love my Demons.

If Perth do get offered Armadale, Kelmscott and Roleystone in 2022/23 I’d be taking it with open arms. I was looking at Roleystone and it seems to have grown quite a bit since I last visited years ago. Different demographic also from the other perth metro clubs apart from south perth and maybe manning

The one great thing about Perth’s zone it it’s country areas. Close enough to the city where parents can drive their kids to development squad matches and the like.

I don’t know if it’s changed since I last followed it but it was four leagues.

Avon FL - Northam, Toodyay, York, Kelleberrin-Tammin, Beverley, Quairading, Cunderdin

Mortlock FL - Wongan Hills, Goomalling, Dowerin, Dallwallinu, Calingiri

Central Midlands FL - Watheroo, Moora Rovers, Moora Warriors, Dandaragan, Leeman, Cervantes, Jurien Bay, Bindi Milling

North Midlands FL - Dongara, Three Springs, Mingenew, Carnamah, Coorow

25 clubs to work with.

If I was Perth FC I’d be visiting those clubs on a regular basis. Doing as much as possible. Put in and hopefully get a lot out.

Maybe Perth already is but yeah that looks like massive potential.

Thanks LH for the positivity.

Just one comment about our country zone being close to Perth. What happens in practice is that the kids maintain v v close links to their towns and go back and play footy there at the drop of a hat. If you’ve come down from gero or up from Albany or across from kal or esp for your footy you tend to see it out. Our boys, if they don’t like training on a Tuesday, you don’t see them on Thursday sometimes…

Fair call mate.

But you know we talk about swapping zones. I reckon I might take a punt on swapping Subiaco’s 9 Kalgoorlie/Esperance clubs with your 25.

We have had some very good kids come out of Avon Valley.
Changa, Glass and Davis just 3 draftees I can think of.
I’m sure there are a lot more.
Some of our current league squad are also from Avon.

Give Avon away, no thank you.

Haha…c’mon mate…your 25 country clubs for our nine country clubs…it’s a fair swap…lol

But in all seriousness, it would be great to find out how many Perth country kids have played league WAFL or AFL since say 2000. I wouldn’t know how to research that but yeah Leon Davis, Chance Bateman, Darren Glass, Lance Franklin is a nice starting point.

Zac Fisher, Matty Rogers, Zach Hill, Sydney Stack and Nathan O’Driscoll are a few current ones I’ve thought of.

Northam, York and surrounds are currently undergoing some population growth, I live in York and being in the building industry take notice of the activity in the region, York district high is increasing enrolments each year we have been here so the pop increase isnt just tree changers, it’s also families. A lot of FIFO’s with young families live up here due to it’s proximity to the metro area, they along with the established farming families mean their are a lot of high income earners in the region, plenty of big farm lads that live and breath footy most of which are boarders at the big private schools but still tied to PFC, so the Avon should be see as the jewel of the PFC zones, so close to the metro area, so easy and cheap to service. My club has good zones in the Goldfields and down Esperence, both have produced quality footballers but are a long way away, same for the clubs that have the Pilbara and Kimberley.

Just to compare and contrast how would you rate Subi’s country zone with Swans’s zone?

I’d grab your metro zone in a heartbeat. Would keep the Subi country zone though…since Swans South-West area was cut in half by Peel. And yeah Pilbara is a tough gig and I admire the work Swans do up there.

Cute, but I did say country zone. Excluding the north-west part of our zone, it is perhaps a little grandiose to describe what we have in the south-west as a country zone.

I agree and that’s part of the Peel factor. Everything changed and everything was rearranged to fit them in. 3 clubs in the South-West isn’t fair to Swans.

But your metro is solid as a rock and it will only get more population. I like the Swans metro zone a lot. Wouldn’t mind working with that at all.

At one stage the WAFC wanted to remove Bassendean JFC from the Swans zone. I can’t see how gutting our metro zone and moving it to Subi’s zone would help either Swans or Perth.

Mate, you asked which zone is better. I’ve said that although Subi’s country zone is pretty small and without many clubs, I would prefer it to Swan’s country zone.

But I preface that by saying the Swan Districts metro zone is top notch.

I think I’m pretty unbiased in this thread. I’m looking at the number of clubs and junior teams and crunching the numbers.

Nobody said about moving the Swan’s zone into the Subiaco zone.

You wanted a comparison. I answered fairly and gave you another comparison.

My previous post was somewhat tongue in cheek. Unfortunately, despite all the goodwill on here to address the problems with zones the one body, the WAFC, that could do something about it is less inclined to do anything about it than I am likely to support the Liberal Party or join the Eagles.

I’m surprised you bother with politics mate.

Political parties exist now to facilitate corporate multinationals, perennial wars, big tech and themselves. Both sides are the same apart from some local issues.

But I’ll stick to the topic which is Perth FC.

My summation is that Perth have a very good country zone. A beauty in fact. But their metro zone is now heavily populated by migrants who have no interest in footy - have soccer clubs at their disposal and in the case of the huge Indian and Nepalese population - cricket clubs. Gosnells and Perth CC will be pretty strong in years to come though. I sometimes see the Indian folks playing tapeball cricket around here in winter.

But would like to see some of them play footy for Perth or any other WAFL club.

Which comes back to what exactly is the WAFC doing about it?

Ummm…boosting ladies numbers to make the participation rates look like overall growth? All eggs in one basket?

Moreover, Claremont FC have this Obi-1-Kenobi hold on the WAFC.

“Our zone must never be tampered with WAFC”

“Affirmative Claremont, your zone must never be tampered with”

Aren’t there now fewer number of teams involved in the top women’s Aussie Rules competition in Perth than prior to the WAFC taking over that competition?

I don’t know…I would think it would be growing wouldn’t it without checking any data? Good luck to the ladies mate. I want to see them playing this fine sport but it isn’t the only issue that needed addressing.

I’ll give you an example mate. Population going up, playing numbers shrinking.

From when I was a bit younger in my old area.
