Cody Leggett

No we don’t he’s already at Lathlain.

And how many of those 5 are mature aged players? None is the answer. Just good fortune in EF’s part you have a very rich junior zone. The WAFC were talking about taking Canningvale off EF and giving it to Perth a few years ago. What happened there Gavin? EF dig their heels in? No, surely not?

Like I’ve said previously, a players character is valued more highly than his deeds on the field and I’d say Cody has probably cooked any chance of an AFL club taking him now and into the future. Well done Bill you big dill.

Masten already cleared.

I’d like to hear more from other club’s supporters on this, apart from the 2-3 who have already posted. It has really been done to death by EF and P fans. I am honest enough to admit that my views may be influenced, my mind may be closed, by my being a Perth fan, and understanding contract law. So let’s hear from Mikeh, BC, Grump, TOO and others. You have one of your best 6-8 players under contract. Another club wants to pick him up for $10k (the same fee you would get if the player wasn’t contracted) and maybe a couple of reserves players. What do you do?

the club who holds a contracted player doesn’t have to anything but honour that contract
and it is their right to refuse
and in some cases it is hard to replace certain players for what they bring to the team and it costs plenty to obtain a rescind on a contract

Difference chaddy is that Masten was a free agent and not under contract to EF.
Cody is under contract to Perth.
If EF want to get the deal done will need to up the ante significantly.
$10k plus a Ressies player won’t get it done .

so fraser mcinnes must be a free agent and he can go to the beagles or whoever?

TN, If for arguments sake he was a required Subi player under contract then I’d want my club to stand their ground. If you don’t, then you’ll be setting a precedent which could see other players at the club wanting to break contracts if things don’t suit them.

No,Hes a Perth player and needs a clearance and will end up at the Eagles ressies if he requests it.

Yes he is a free agent but is a Perth player and still has to be cleared to any other club.
Free agency does not give the ex AFL player an automatic clearance.
Masten was cleared to Perth by EF for a transfer fee.

Not sure the Subi boys are the best ones to ask Ted…pretty sure the likes of Marsh, Menagola, Read, Chick, Lockyer, Litherland et al would of been top 6-8 at their respective clubs of origin if they hadn’t had bigger cheques waved at them over the years…of course opposition fans are gonna say Perth need to stay firm, as,it’s the most logical and necessary action to take…

as for your fixation with EF only offering reserves boys in exchange plus money for Leggett…didn’t realise you know what Doddy is thinking…just highlights none of EF top 6-8 want to leave Monaghans tutelage, can’t say the same about Cody and Spalding it seems…but hey whatever happens this Leggett debate definitely has made the off season more interesting than usual.

The big difference Freez is that none of the one’s you mentioned were contracted to their original clubs…sure they defaulted back to their club of origin when delisted but none had a legal and binding contract as Leggett does.

Do you Perth boys know for a fact the offer has been 10k and players?

I would think EF would need to come to the party transfer wise. Who knows what that is. As Freezin mentioned, Perth May have asked, or even spoke to, EF players but they didn’t want to make the move.

I think now it’s all out in the open, a deal will get done. If Leggett did try to leave last year, I’d say there’s more issues than just where he plays.

Let us have your conspiracy theory then KC. If the issues be known you may not want him.

I don’t know- but it seems odd he’s tried to leave twice

In my opinion it’s pretty simple. He’s contracted so unless EF offer up something of value to PFC then Cody remains a Demon.
For those that say release him and you don’t want someone on the list who wants out, perhaps Daniher and Papley at AFL level are good precedents.
I hardly think playing for Perth has hampered his AFL aspirations, plenty of others have been recruited in time he had been playing. Contracted, play out your contract and impress. Sooking and standing out for a year won’t impress any recruiters.
Feels like there is a superior $$$ deal on the table driving this - ‘playing a different’ role’ is pretty lightweight reason and not believable.

what is he on? they need to pay out his contract at the very least.

Classic Perth. Keeping a player that has tried to move twice. Great for your culture.

what would be even worse for the club would be to let a contracted player go – Subi never let Buckernara go I wonder why that was?

I assume the WAFL has an arbitration process?

Happens all the time. All the mid year signings are under contract- how did Simpson end up at EP? Tropiano at Perth?
